Yikes. Would've rather had Matthews for 3yr/$15m.Ian Rapoport @RapSheet 32s32 seconds ago
Barring a late snag, #Bills RFA WR Chris Hogan will sign a 3-year, $12M, heavily-guaranteed deal to join #Patriots. BUF has 5 days to match
I'm bullish. Hogan seems like the kind of player that can really develop in New England, and the fact that its so heavily front loaded means he will give us lots of flexibility in years 2 and 3 when the WR market is, hopefully, better.Yikes. Would've rather had Matthews for 3yr/$15m.
Rapsh*t agrees:No chance Buffalo matches especially when they need money to sign their draft class as well.
It's fascinating, as Rex could not live with himself if Hogan performs well in a NE uni. Buffalo matching that offer isn't out of the question. While highly unlikely, I wouldn't be completely surprised if the Bills match just to prevent the Pats from getting him. It would be a foolish decision for them financially (and it would seem the Pats are over paying) but I'm not ruling out the gamesmanship at play here.
Nothing. He was tendered at the lowest amount. He came into the league as an undrafted free agent.I didn't see this mentioned elsewhere in the thread, what compensation are the Bills owed if they don't match?
I agree that he seems like a good fit, but I was just more bullish on Rishard Matthews as a fit. Would've preferred him at similar money, but Hogan should be a good addition.I'm bullish. Hogan seems like the kind of player that can really develop in New England, and the fact that its so heavily front loaded means he will give us lots of flexibility in years 2 and 3 when the WR market is, hopefully, better.
But mostly:Wahhhhhhhh!!
Chris Hogan is a big meh until the Pats make an offer for them.
Then, and only then, are we missing the boat on the supreme talent that is Chris Hogan.
Decent player. Hard worker.
7-11 he was not.
Hope he plays well except against us.
Bottom line is:
Who cares...
Hogan is mediocre. Good riddance at that contract. He made some plays but dropped way too many passes last year given his other limitations.
There is not a chance we match this. We have way more pressing needs. I'll take the $1.6M in cap space (and maybe a compensatory pick).
Hogan is not good. Everyone take a deep breath. We can spend money on more important players than him. That is too expensive for a guy like him.
Hogan is a solid #4 WR and we will miss him if we don't replace him but replacing him is not all that difficult
As some of us posted on the other thread, Hogan can be a backup lefty punter(!), has played lacrosse, was a UDFA, threw for a TD, and had his best games against NE. You couldn't draw up more intangibles that BB likes than that.
...and the dots keep getting connecting:@Eric_Edholm Wait, Chris Hogan is lacrosse player, almost went to Rutgers, played S and WR ... shame on me for not predicting #Patriots job years ago.
@MarkDanielsPJ
Chris Hogan's first NFL game? Against the Patriots.
Hogan's first NFL TD? Against the Pats
Hogan's career high? 95 yards -against the Pats
Flawed stat since they only threw the ball like 20 times a game and Sammy Watkins and McCoy out of the backfield would get the majority of those targets.@SharpFootball BUF threw ball to him on just 11.6% of all pass plays, but NE is prepared to pay Chris Hogan $4M/yr, almost what they pay Edelman ($4.25M).
No. Yes.Is it possible for the Bills to match THEN trade him? Would that incur more dead cap for them? If so, could BB & Rex work out a flat-out trade netting Ryan a low pick?
Hogan was NJ Player of the Year for lacrosse, and also played baseball. He won Bills charity HR derby:Penn State for lacrosse....then one year playing college football.
This was told to me by a business associate whose son played with him at Ramapo.
What a story.
You don't say.Whispers and innuendo of racism in 3...2...1...
In all seriousness, why are the Patriots so obsessed with white wide receivers? There's like ten white wide receivers and most of them have played for the Pats at one time or another. They had double white tight ends last year, they had like the only white running back in football for a while; like seriously, what gives?
#HateGate #WhiteGate
It's way beyond a coincidence. I'm not saying they're racists, obviously they have plenty of black players too. But Belichick and Brady definitely get a boner over white skill position players. There's not a doubt in my mind.
But even though I had one of the better camps of all the receivers, I ended up getting cut. That was probably the most disappointing moment of my career. I had put everything into that camp. To be featured on Hard Knocks and everything, too — I really thought that I had made it. The NFL is a cutthroat business, though, and I learned it the hard way. But at the end of the day, you have two options: You can either quit and say Forget about it, I tried, or you can keep grinding.
After that, it was just a series of firsts. My first time suiting up came in the last couple games of that season. My first time playing was the home opener the following season. It was against the New England Patriots, and being able to run out of that tunnel at the beginning of the game was unlike anything I’d ever experienced.
My first touchdown came the season after that, when I began to establish myself as a major passing threat. It was also against the Patriots.
The only white RB in football huh?In all seriousness, why are the Patriots so obsessed with white wide receivers? A caller on EEI just said the same thing. Rex was pretty pissed about how well Woodhead did with the Pats. He wouldn't want it to happen again. It's fascinating, as Rex could not live with himself if Hogan performs well in a NE uni. Buffalo matching that offer isn't out of the question.
