I pray that DD doesn't make panic moves to try to salvage this season. With this rotation and a pen minus Kimbrel and possibly Tazawa this team won't go very far.

You'd like to think not. It will be a test of his willpower.

Shagging balls in the outfield
I realize it is done (pitchers shagging fly balls) but why would you have such an important player doing that.
Just have them run and not shag fly balls to stay in shape.
I mean the same thing happened to Mariano Rivera.
Wouldn't an intelligent coaching staff put an end to that after Rivera got hurt so badly?
These guys are multi-million dollar investments.

I mean it sucks, but at least it isn't an arm injury and he should come back fresh for a strong finish. Not great, but could be much worse. Timing is as good as we could ask for with the all star break coming.

Rivera tore his acl doing the same stuff a few years ago. It's a freak thing. Ziegler is a capable replacement for 3-6 weeks.

Might be a blessing in disguise. Kimbrel gets to rest up and come back hopefully in the middle of a pennant race.

One report said "during warmups", which I guess could also mean shagging flies.

Does anyone know if a tear like that was something just waiting to happen (for example, wouldn't have happened while pitching or covering first base) versus a specific (unnecessary) action during BP?

Agreed, just a stupid way to hurt yourself. Was anyone at the game and saw BP? Did he twist it all on his own or was there horsing around going on?

Should we install beds in the bullpens for them to lie safely in 24/7 until the phone rings during the games?

The odds are better that they'll be hurt in a debilitating traffic accident.

Its beyond stupid, didn't Wright get drilled in the neck running in the OF during BP last year that created his concussion?
They should hire a couple of smoking hot yoga teachers and have these guys do a yoga/stretching class in the clubhouse before games. Get all the pitchers in a Zen like mindset... Om Shanti Om

Kimbrel provided more detail on how injury occurred. Said he "took a step" for a grounder in outfield during BP and "heard a pop."

Obviously, all pitchers should be kept hermetically sealed in a mayonnaise jar on Funk & Wagnalls porch until needed to warm up

Well let's just have a few more blow out games where we score about 5 more than the other guys and not stress on it. Pick it up offense.

The fact that the coaching staff lets these guys take steps is inexcusable.

This makes the Ziegler trade even better. While DD was surely already having discussions about potential bullpen trades, props to him for pulling the trigger before this news came out.

OK, two times through the thread and I haven't seen exactly what the injury is other than knee and Kimbrel heard a "pop" 3-6 weeks has me guessing small tear that will get scoped and snipped.

In Kimbrel's absence will close with both Koji and Zeigler according to Farrell
I'm not even comfortable with Koji as a set up guy at this point.

Meniscus tear in left knee; if it were worse, we wouldn't be talking about 3-6 weeks

Are you saying this coaching staff is not intelligent? Brian Butterfield is widely recognized as one of the better coaches in the game. Sometimes things happen.

HPC-ette had a torn meniscus. If they do a true repair, the recovery is hard and long. If they basically remove what's left of the meniscus, the recovery is on the order of weeks, but at the cost of a greatly increased risk of arthritis at a fairly young age. Athletes generally buy that risk in order to get back on the field faster.

HPC-ette did not, but with all the other crap that's happened to her knee, it's not clear she made the right call

If anyone has more first hand experience.....................does a meniscus "pop" when it tears?...... I have typically heard that description when referring to an ACL tear, which would mean months on the DL rather than weeks.

We have to wait, apparently, until the afternoon showing of "Finding Dory"

Are you serious? You Anti Farrell Folks are taking things to extremes..Sometimes things happen. If Kimbrel suffered a bloody nose while blowing his nose and then tripped on his blood and suffered an ACL tear you all would want John's scalp.
