Looking forward to Minnesota vs St Louis (whoops) tonight, but I think that Chicago vs Nashville matchup might be the most fun of the first round.

That was insane. Wow.

Also, Vlad Sobotka is back playing for the Blues. He was always one of my favorites.

Tarasenko's strong effort sets up Edmundson to end in in the last minutes of OT.

Jake Allen finishes with 51 saves, several of which are highlight worthy.

What the fuck is a Minny?

Anyway, it's going to be the most Minnesota thing ever when the Wild lose in the first round. Unstoppable for half of the season and then *fart*.

Honestly, Nashville is a better team than a normal 8 seed, and I'm not surprised they are doing more than holding their own against Chicago.

One OT ends and another OT begins.

What a night of hockey. All 4 games go to OT.

Calgary had a 4-1 lead at home and lose to the Ducks 5-4 in OT. Ouch. So the only likeable Canadian team is going to lose in the 1st Round quickly and the other 4 look probable to advance.

Brodin just clearly kept a puck in the offensive zone, to the point where 0% of the puck got outside the blue line. Offside, momentum killed for MN.

Gibson has done the save the puck and fall over move like three times in the 10 minutes I've been watching the game. And not on post to posts.

Rinne is prone to sudden implosions, so they'll have to navigate around those, but I think Nashville is the team to beat in the West. Best defense and finally some talent up front. Rinne is the only real question mark and so far so good.

Chicago was good this year but they weren't the same team that won Cups. The Bruins actually had more true regulation wins than the Hawks. Tough draw with a Preds team that wasn't a wild card #2 level team. I didn't see a dominant sweep coming, but I don't think this was as big an upset as it'll be made to be.

Nashville was a chic human and computer pick to win the whole thing in the preseason - they just had a bunch of injuries to key guys and never had a chance to get completely gelled until now.

Wild start in Edmonton. It's 1-1 after 10 minutes, but the Oilers have also hit three posts and SJ has had a couple more great chances of their own.

The Oilers blow a change and Marleau and Thornton convert the 2-on-1. 2-1 Sharks. The Oilers dominated the first 8-9 minutes but the Sharks have steadied the ship.

Meier goes off for a veeery soft holding call, the Sharks just about kill it off, then Burns gets the delay of game - puck over glass penalty and the OIlers cash in on a beautiful set up from Draisaitl.

San Jose was up 3-1 at the halfway point and tried to kill of the game, they played a lot of good defense but came up three minutes short. Bleh.

Other than a couple of minutes of pressure by San Jose, Edmonton was just relentless at the end of regulation (to tie it) and into a long overtime, just wave after wave of pressure. They earned that one with intensity.

I think San Jose just ran out of gas. All that time spent in their own end wore them out. They played to win the game in regulation and didn't quite make it. In the third period they were actually playing pretty good D and really limiting Edmonton's chances despite all of Edmonton's possession. In the OT they just got swamped.

Few things worse than staying up until 2 am to watch your team lose an OT playoff game.

Many older Bruins fans can commiserate. Source: our own 3 OT Edmonton playoff game.

But one thing IS worse... No playoff games in your city.

The time zone thing is really annoying. The worst one was when the Sharks lost a 4OT elimination game in Dallas in 2008 that ended at something like 4 am eastern time.

Blues take a 1-0 lead on Minnesota, who are fighting for their lives, down 3-1 in the series.

One thing I love about hockey is that right after a goal is scored, they just don't pull a football and go right to commercial. Right back to action.
