But are you trading a QB you'd take at 2 when you have no QB? Probably not.

On 6 year contracts, Lynch and Shanahan will build the crap out of this team and get their QB next year.
Well, unless they genuinely believed (as everyone did) that the Bears were going to take Thomas and we're gambling that Trubisky would still be there.

I think the 49ers did well there, but I think one of three things happened here: (1) the 49ers wanted Trubisky and gambled and lost, (2) the Bears thought the 49ers were going to take Trubisky and made sure they got their guy, or (3) the Bears thought the 49ers were going to trade the pick to someone who would take Trubisky. I think we're all thinking that the 49ers must have played better poker and the Bears didn't, because we all think Trubisky went too high. But, we really don't know.

Cleveland has a ton of draft capital---isn't them moving up to 2 the likely alternative that forced Chi to offer up that much?

Definitely.

The Bears may have just helped us land the #12 pick and more. Doubt it, but maybe.

Is there really any chance that the 49ers didn't ask the Bears what they were going to do with the pick?

Now the next drama begins. The Titans' phones have to be ringing off the hook right now.
My info was that the Browns told DeShaun 2 weeks ago they would take Garrett and trade up to 5 to get him, thinking that Mitch would be gone. So we'll see. 2 out of 3 on that info so far.

That's interesting. I guess it's possible the Bears picked Trubisky for Cleveland and we'll hear about it before pick 12.
I'm basing this on the lack of a phone call, the signing of Glennon, and the obvious multiple needs of the Bears.

Plus, it's the type of out of the box move the Browns might do

Is that really how it works? I was assuming that the answer to that question would always be "we're not saying." Would they really say?

I mean, if you're the 49ers, for all you know, the Bears could turn around and trade the pick to someone else if they wanted. I would think it goes the other way -- that the Bears ask who are you going to pick with 2 before we give you a bunch of other picks?

Why wouldn't Cleveland just trade for the pick directly, though. I was speculating Cleveland was the other bidder and beating them is what required such a high price here.

If you saw the live look-up of the 9ers war room, you'd realize the answer is 3) =D

Kind of weird. Lynch out saying we had Trubisky as highest quarterback and you need a franchise QB to compete. So it seems like 49ers not doing QB for awhile.

Sounds to me like he thinks there's no franchise QB in this draft and I'd tend to agree with him. I think the best in this draft is Watson, but there's Vince Young bust potential too.
