You read the yowls about they need a 3B who can hit, or one that I started about Moreland not hitting after his torrid start, and others, but how about:

Betts in his last 46 PA
143/217/262/479

Bogaerts in his last 60 PA
189/267/245/512

Benintendi in his last 29 PA (which includes 3 for 6 last night)
208/345/208/553

Bradley in his last 37 PA (which includes a 3 for 5 game with an HR)
229/270/400/670

or

Leon in his last 28 PA
185/214/185/399

Vazquez in his last 36 PA
143/167/143/310

Seems to me that there are a few people in slumps.

Isn't that the definition of a small sample size, one that is weighted heavily by one 16 inning game where the offense struggled? It sucks that all those guys have been cold for the same 8-10 game stretch, but we should all be surprised if that continued for the 4 B's. Meanwhile, the lack of offense at 3rd base has been long-term and systemic. Fixing that, somehow, will clearly make this team much better, small sample size fluctuations notwithstanding.

Edited for typos.

Are you honestly concerned about Betts' performance this season, or are you just trolling?
Just trolling. No other reason to cherry-pick different PA numbers for each listed person.

After all, in the game before the cut-off, Mookie went 4-6, 2HR. Gotta exclude that.

All of those are 7 or 8 games, with an ASB in between. Crappy thread.

A line of 143/217/262/479 from your lead-off batter for his last 46 PA is not what you want.

But, actually, what I am trolling is the stupidity of other threads like those who say, "Third base is a wreck. They have to bring Devers up," or "They have to trade for Prado, Frazier" or "They should trade Devers for Prado and a pitcher." And so forth. There are people who see the team score a ton of runs for a while (because most of the team gets hot) and they think it is the greatest team in the world. Then most of the team cools off and they don't score runs and there are cries for "Trade. Trade. Trade."

Is this team as it now stands good enough to win the AL East? Most probably. Is it good enough to win the World Series? Not unless they put together a hot streak during post-season.

I'm concerned about Mookie. He has a lot of moving parts to his swing and attending footwork. Maybe it all progressed over his development as he was trying to get as much power out of his small frame as possible. Would he try to simplify things to get back to more line drives and less popups and groundouts, at the expense or power of course. Maybe he has some nagging injury like Bryce Harper did last year. They've always said Mookie has a great quest for knowledge in going to coaches and senior players. I wonder what's going on in this area lately.

Are you still concerned about Mookie after his big game tonight? The one guy I am mildly concerned about is Xander and he rightly had the nightcap off..

Are you just building an especially weak strawman or have you actually seen someone post something as preposterous as that?

They had some coverage angles of him last night and he might have cut down on the front leg lift and stride. The home run swing was a thing of beauty. Of course, when the product is a home run, your mind makes the process looks better. The homer was also against a breaking ball, his weakness. The word got out (finally) that he murders fastballs, especially inside ones, so pitchers are feeding him tons of breaking balls. He's learning how to hit them. Should have happened last year; amazing how long it took for pitchers and coaches around the league to wake up about him. He'll be fine, I think/hope.

Not so amazing when you consider David Ortiz was still the linchpin of the lineup last season. If there was one player to game plan for so that he didn't beat you himself against the 2016 Sox, it was Big Papi.

Now, Mookie is that guy, and the mistake pitches are happening less frequently.

Back in the day, my daddy would have slapped across the mouth me for those SSSs by themselves and then slapped me again for their uneven disparity against each other and yet again for doing it on a main board thread.

Then reply in those threads. I'm all for new threads here, but not threads like this one.
