Can’t image Lewis living up to top 10 RB money over 4 years. Have to see the deal and guaranteed money

Rapport says Lewis is getting Top 10 RB money. That would be $5 million a year if this is true.
Henry: Alright, Murray is finally gone. Finally don’t have to share touches!

Vrabel: Hey, Derrick, just wanted to give you a heads up that we’re about to sign Dion Lewis.

Henry: ....fuck!

The Patriots are set to lose one cornerback when free agency starts on Wednesday, but the team could possibly add another veteran.

The Providence Journal was told that the Patriots have shown interest in cornerback Patrick Robinson. The 30-year-old had 18 pass deflections and four interceptions last season with the Philadelphia Eagles where he started eight of 16 games. He also had a pick-6 in the NFC Championship.

Was that cliff called Brett Hundley?

In 5 games with Rodgers he had 25 catches for 290 yards and 6 TDs. That extrapolates out to an 80/928/19 TDs.

The article says he was on pace for under 800 yards, but he missed week 2. If you just look at the 5 games he played with Rodgers he was fine. Not what he used to be, but he was productive.

So far Butler is a 3rd round compensatory pick next year, Dola is a 5th, and Lewis is either a 5th or a 6th.

Some of it is, some isn’t. Some of his falloff was QB independent. YAC plummeting, for example. He turns 33 in May.

Serviceable piece, yes, but I’d take Amendola over him at this point. Unfortunately, we din not have that luxury.

Isn’t it fair to say YAC is also impacted by the QB? If the throw is accurate enough to hit him in stride, he’s more likely to get more YAC.

The pact has a maximum value of $23 million, and includes $11.5 million in guarantees, according to ESPN's Josina Anderson.

Jordy Nelson also had 4 TDs that TOTALED 15 yards. I realize that happens every year, but his TD pace in his games with Rodgers was ahead of any other season, so having 16% of your catches total just 15 yards because you scored puts a damper on YAC opportunities.

All that to say, yes, he is football old and I would not want to spend a lot on him. But I wouldn't be averse to seeing what he has. Is he known as a good route runner?

Sure, but as noted in the article, it didn’t merely drop, it plummeted.

They had a panel of guys on the NFLN tonight saying he’s lost more than a step. He’s not the same guy. Age does that. Knee surgeries do that.

If he was the same guy, GB would not be releasing him. He was Rodgers favorite receiver for years, and it was not close.

Edit — Sure, bring him in. We’re cap strapped and may be losing our left tackle, so this is not priority one.

I watched a lot of Nelson down the stretch for fantasy reasons (blah). Hundley was awful and locked onto Adams basically every game so that explains some of it. However, Nelson really struggled to get much separation in the games I saw. I don’t know if he was hurt or whatever but he looked noticeably less explosive. Certainly worth a look under the hood but I wouldn’t spend any valuable FA dollars on him anytime soon.

I'm sorry but why would you take DA over him?? Both DA and JN are 32(today). In Nelson's 10 years hes missed 22 games(16 of those full season in 2016), DA has missed 35 in 9 years. Jordy has topped 1200 receiving yards 4 of his last 7(one lost year) seasons, DA best season was 689 in 2010 with the Rams. Yes DA has had some clutch playoff catches, but so did a lot of other random receivers. So again, what does DA do that Jordy cant?

Ouch! If he walks this might be the worst offseason in recent memory for the Pats. Who do they even have that can play LT at this point?
I'm not sure it's all that bad. Solder isn't that good. Dola leaving hurts but he can't stay healthy. Same with Lewis. Butler was awful last year and clearly fell out of favor with BB. Yeah, they've been our guys for a few years but lets see who their replacements are before we proclaim the sky is falling.

Because Nelson will likely cost more, plays outside where there is less need, and may be completely cooked.

I don’t think he will end up costing more than 6 million a season. Watching GB games last season, he looked good when Rodgers was there and very average when Hundley (who is a horrible deep thrower) was at QB. Nelson isn’t what he was back in 2014, but he isn’t cooked either. What Bill would like is he is smart receiver as well and what doesn’t show up in the stat sheets in the holding and pass interference penalties he draws as well. With Brady, Nelson would be very solid again, but he isn’t a DA replacement as you mention, he plays outside.

One of the most surprising deals of free agency will be Jerrick McKinnon's with the 49ers: It is expected to be a four-year deal worth $30 million -- an average of $7.5 million per year, per source.

Holy shit. What an awful contract. Wonder what the guaranteed money is.

Is paying running backs back in vogue? Lewis, McKinnon, Barkley going high...

Looking at the bright side, based on moves made so far, the Pats would be in line for something like a 3rd, a 5th and a 6th in comp picks. Solder could potentially result in another 3rd. Of course the Pats traded away their own 3rd and might sign a free agent or two of their own.

To be awarded in 2019 draft. So we’re talking team building for 2020 and beyond.

I wonder how much this is frontloading into the big cap jump this year. Browns seems like the opposite of paying RBs. Rather than take Barkley they frontload a deal to Hyde getting a proven RB for a decent investment this year then something like 4M or less with little guarantee for the following 2. They have so much cap space (49ers too) that they can afford guarantees this year if it leads to discounted/non-guaranteed years down the road

The potential problem with this approach is that some players under-perform on front loaded contracts as there is much less of a financial incentive to work as hard as they might if they are working for their next payday.

I think Solder is a lot better than most on this board give him credit. He's gotten shelled a couple of times over the past few years (KC a few years ago, the first couple games this year, against Khalil Mack a few years ago) but by and large he protects tom well with very little help and is effective in the run and screen game. From what I see he's like 8 or 10 in the league which is going to be very hard to replace.

They have Antonio Garcia who they felt good enough to draft in the 3rd round last year. He is 6'6", 300+, but has lost weight because of a non-football blood clot problem that caused him to be put on IR. He is apparently working back to game weight and he is said to be expected to make a full recovery. It obviously sounds risky when you combine that with his rookie status, but he was surely drafted as protection for Solder walking away or being injured himself. Its clearly not the same thing as Solder, but perhaps the Patriots coaching staff knows something that we don't about him and his ability and health projection for 2018.
