Yea, and whoever walks in there is inheriting a pretty good situation. Elite QB, most of offensive starters back, lots of young talent on the roster, D started 4-5 freshman. Seeing on twitter that Kevin Sumlin and Butch Jones have some ties to people there, so those are early names for speculation.

Deeply disturbing and tragic. Is there a motive yet?

Can't be because of his team's loss or an expected allegation, I don't think.

One would think a seemingly healthy D1 QB would have a lot to look forward too.

For those that may have lost track, but may still have some inkling of interest, National Signing Day, Pas Deux, is tomorrow, Wednesday, 2/7 (the first Wednesday in February - the "old" / "original" NSD.

While something like only 20 or so of 247Sports' top 300 are still uncommitted, there are still some interesting cases out there, like the following uncommitted 5*s (and schools supposedly still in contention):

  • CB Tyson Campbell: Alabama, Georgia, Miami
  • CB Patrick Surtain Jr.: Alabama, Clemson, LSU, Miami
  • OT Nick Petit-Frere: Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State
There's also the case of uncommitted 4* QB Tanner McKee, who is in the mix for Alabama, Stanford, Texas, Texas A&M, Washington ... but he's planning to take 2 years off to fulfill his Mormon community service commitment.

Nice summary. One correction, though...Otis Reese signed with Georgia, not Michigan.

The Dawgs absolutely cleaned up this year. Looks like they hired the right guy down there.

One thing I found interesting while following throughout the day yesterday, a number - in fact quite a few - 4* recruits listed above were being reported as 5*. I know these numbers fluctuate over time, but it was amusing. It seemed that most instances of "boost stage being atained" occurred with reporting from the respective recruit's state and local media sources, or in some cases the recruiting school's updates. In any case, the 28 5* number quoted above is from 247Sports.

We need to talk about Herm Edwards.

This guy is insane. He talks about cutting players that are hurt because he has no tape on them. He says he will revoke players scholarships who spend too much time in the training room. He says he only needs 45 players total.

Does he think he has to keep a 53-player roster?

He has also opened every practice to media and fans, showcasing the entire playbook. He equally has only been at about half the practices in person.

I can’t wait until his ass is fired.

Did he have a mental break? I never liked him as HC for the Jets but he seemed like a good guy and I thought he would make a good rah rah college coach.

The shit about telling the press he didn’t like devils was crazy too.

Week 2 there's Duke/Northwestern, Kentucky/Florida, Mississippi State/K-State, UGA/South Carolina, Mich St/Ariz St, USC/Stanford, Rutgers/Ohio State, Virginia/Indiana.

Week 3: FSU/Syracuse, GT/Pitt, WVU/NC State, Boise State/Okla St, USC/Texas, Washington/Utah, Rutgers/Kansas, Duke/Baylor, Vandy/ND,

i would go UGA SoCa and USC Texas personally.

5 Acc teams and 0 Pac-12 teams isn't a good formula either.

I wouldn't say it's great, but it's certainly not awful.

The final rankings from last year:

Week 1 Saturday: Louisville (unranked) vs. Alabama (1) in Orlando
Week 1 Sunday: Miami (13) vs. LSU (18) in Arlington, TX
Week 1 Monday: Virginia Tech (24) at Florida State (unranked - although FSU is certainly expected to bounce back, and this likely will be a very important game in the final analysis)
Week 2: Penn State (8) at Pitt (unranked) traditional in-state rivalry
Week 3: Ohio State (5) vs. TCU (9) in Arlington, TX

Interesting that they've schedule a Sunday and Monday game.

This seems like a big deal.

@InsidetheNCAA
DI Council adopts proposal that allows student-athletes to transfer and receive a scholarship without asking their school for permission. The rule change goes into effect in October.

Important caveats:

Conferences, however, still can make rules that are more restrictive than the national rule.
That will be an interesting one to watch.

Additionally, the proposal adds tampering with a current student-athlete at another school to the list of potential Level 2 violations, considered a significant breach of conduct.
In other words, no contact until the S-A is a "free agent." This likely will become a new and growing area of potential violations and investigations. You just know that a back-door network will take seed and flourish if some school needs, say, a QB, and there is highly-touted QB serving as backup at some other school and who would love to be starting now.

Or, the more likely scenario, and one that happens quite often in the current system, you can play them in the wake of injuries to players who are more senior or higher up on the depth chart without blowing away their RS.

You can also play them at the end of a disappointing season to get a head start on next year.

Also, if a player plays <4 games and gets injured, it's an automatic redshirt if they haven't used one yet.

My buddy’s brother was a freshman at a top program. The team wanted him to play but due to poor high school coaching, he couldn’t due to the risk of making a mental mistake. He redshirted last year. If the rule would’ve been in place last season, he definitely would’ve played at the end of the season. Instead it was a semi-frustrating season.

I think this is a great rule.

This was the Will Greir/WVU situation last year. He got hurt in week 8 and they had to roll with a very subpar replacement for the rest of the year because Dana didn't want to burn a RS on two different guys that would likely have been much better QB's. So the last part of the season was brutal.

On another note, the Urban Meyer moral compass keeps spinning.

If you read the McMurphy story this seems open and shut to me. Meyer and his staff need to be fired and Meyer's wife, who we know knew what was happening needs to have her nursing credentials/license revoked.
