Sox announce an alumni game, their first since 1993, for 10:30 a.m. May 27, before Sox-Braves. Pedro, Wade Boggs, Mike Lowell, Derek Lowe, Sam Horn, El Guapo, Darren Lewis, Mike Greenwell, Lou Merloni et al.
Others available are listed below.
I was thinking of asking "why Julio Lugo?" instead...Why on such short notice?
The brass doesn';t care about the fans. IF they did, they wouldn't have raised prices this year or gotten rid of replay. Why on such short notice?
There is no evidence that Pedro will pitch more than 5 minutes or so, or that Guapo is in shape.Man, there's a lot to like about that lineup, and a lot to unpack. The thought of Pedro playing, for starters, is amazing.
The fact that El Guapo is in shape to get on the field is also pretty wild. And the inclusion of Lugo is something else. I had to go back and look at his numbers to remember how lousy his bat truly was there in the back half of his career. Still, props to him for showing up for the fun.
Cool. I shall tone down my enthusiasm appropriately, if that's to your liking. There is no evidence that Pedro will pitch more than 5 minutes or so, or that Guapo is in shape.
I can only speak about last year's Old Timer game in Cambridge, but Pedro pitched 2 innings and even took an at bat (pic of that is #4 in the series on my instagram page). He was GREAT fun!!There is no evidence that Pedro will pitch more than 5 minutes or so, or that Guapo is in shape.
Local kid who never had much hype.I had to look up Chris Howard. I had absolutely no memory of him
BWAHAHAHA! El Guapo is always in shape to get on the field! The fact that El Guapo is in shape to get on the field is also pretty wild.
Those shots are great! Nicely done, thanks for sharing.I can only speak about last year's Old Timer game in Cambridge, but Pedro pitched 2 innings and even took an at bat (pic of that is #4 in the series on my instagram page). He was GREAT fun!!
According to the NESN TV schedule, it looks like it won't be shown live but will be televised on NESN at 8 pm Sunday night.Anyone know if it'll be televised? Not going to be in the park, but would be fun to watch....
Glad I wasn't the only one who thought "who?" when looking at that name. Granted, he was just a touch before my time (14 appearances in 1980).I completely missed the Keith MacWhorter era.
Thanks!! I'm sure it'll be a very fun event...enjoy, whoever is going!!According to the NESN TV schedule, it looks like it won't be shown live but will be televised on NESN at 8 pm Sunday night.
You're making that up.Apparently, Julio freaking Lugo just took Pedro deep in the alumni game.
My whole world is upside down.
Nope. He took him wayyyyyyy deep over the monster. You're making that up.
Same here lol. Of the smillion ex Sox, couldn't they have found more recognizable players than Howard, Lomasney and MacWhorter? Even a few swings from Yaz would be so much more interestingI completely missed the Keith MacWhorter era.
A couple of the unknowns, MacWhorter being one of them, live locally so I assume they were just filler that they could get to Fenway on the cheap.Same here lol. Rice was Tiant’s “bench coach”. TC interviewed them together during the game and Rice said he would hit if Tiant pitched. But Tiant said his back was bad and he couldn’t. The crowd tried to get Rice to take a swing but he held his ground.True, but they could have gotten Rice or Lynn or someone from the 1975 team
