I was considering going to this game anyway since it’s projected to be a Sale day.

Great group. Who is the tougher out - long retired batting champion Wade Boggs, or recent retiree Jonny Gomes?

Maybe we can get this group to play an exhibition game against the Orioles? Would be fun to watch Showalter lose to Lou Merloni and Darren Lewis.

Man, there's a lot to like about that lineup, and a lot to unpack. The thought of Pedro playing, for starters, is amazing.

The fact that El Guapo is in shape to get on the field is also pretty wild. And the inclusion of Lugo is something else. I had to go back and look at his numbers to remember how lousy his bat truly was there in the back half of his career. Still, props to him for showing up for the fun.

Why on such short notice?
The brass doesn';t care about the fans. IF they did, they wouldn't have raised prices this year or gotten rid of replay.

-------

They should do loyal v. traitor game. Have Boggs on the other side wearing a Rays (or worse) uniform

There is no evidence that Pedro will pitch more than 5 minutes or so, or that Guapo is in shape.

I am considering getting a slice of pizza and getting close enough to Dinardo to ask him if he wants it though.

I had to look up Chris Howard. I had absolutely no memory of him

I can only speak about last year's Old Timer game in Cambridge, but Pedro pitched 2 innings and even took an at bat (pic of that is #4 in the series on my instagram page). He was GREAT fun!!

BWAHAHAHA! El Guapo is always in shape to get on the field!

I had an El Guapo Red Sox t-shirt for years and years I loved wearing until it finally had to be put out to pasture. Not only because he wore #34 before Big Papi, but even moreso because the name on the back was "EL GUAPO" and for unexplained reasons there was a tilda over the "L".

@Ale Xander & @donutogre - thanks!! He was just so fun! Really engaged the crowd and was super kind to the college kids on his team and the opposing team.

I can totally see him really getting into this Fenway event. Whoever goes will likely find him to be a highlight. And he can still pitch lights out!

Hopefully this will be on tv or streamed, I know YES broadcasts the Yankees old timers game every year

The Red Sox old timers should play the Yankees old timers, that would be even better.

Pedro would probably drill someone if he was facing the Yankees. I wouldn't be surprised if he drilled someone in the Red Sox-Red Sox game.

Looks like the Dodgers have a day game that day, anyone know if Nomar is the Dodgers broadcast version of Remy, Eck, Lyons, or Rice?

Anyone know if it'll be televised? Not going to be in the park, but would be fun to watch....

According to the NESN TV schedule, it looks like it won't be shown live but will be televised on NESN at 8 pm Sunday night.
Thanks!! I'm sure it'll be a very fun event...enjoy, whoever is going!!

Weather looking kinda crummy for this - hope they get everything in, it's my first trip to Fenway in 5 years.

I’d love to time travel back to 1998 and find SoSH’s predecessor so I could post: “Steve Lomasney will make his Fenway debut on May 27, 2018.”

Same here lol. Of the smillion ex Sox, couldn't they have found more recognizable players than Howard, Lomasney and MacWhorter? Even a few swings from Yaz would be so much more interesting
A couple of the unknowns, MacWhorter being one of them, live locally so I assume they were just filler that they could get to Fenway on the cheap.

True, but they could have gotten Rice or Lynn or someone from the 1975 team
Rice was Tiant’s “bench coach”. TC interviewed them together during the game and Rice said he would hit if Tiant pitched. But Tiant said his back was bad and he couldn’t. The crowd tried to get Rice to take a swing but he held his ground.

Why is the organization still associating itself with Julio Lugo in any way?
