How many shotblocking/rebounding post players has Boston really chased after in the Stevens era? They consistently pass over those guys for the switchy players. Look at all the people that complained about Boston's choice of Ojeleye over the rim running/rebounding Jordan Bell last year. Or the selection of Jaylen Brown over Dragan Bender in 2016. Or even their rejection of a deal based around rim running/rebounding Nerlens Noel for #3 that same year.
Stevens has talked about their vision of a three position team, lead guard, wing(s), and big men, and in the latter category they seem to prioritize the multi-skilled mobil players like Horford over the traditional bigs. So, if given the choice between a 6'11" 240lb guy with wing athleticism that generates a lot of deflections defensively and spaces the floor offensively and a more traditional center, I'd wager they go with the guy that fits their three position vision of the NBA game.
agree.
Draft a long, athletic wing or skilled PG (Brunsen) that replaces Larkin this year and Rozier next.
No need to draft a young, clumsy big late in the first that will take years to develop in Brad's sophisticated system. The Celtics can go to the veteran dustbin to find experienced
classic bigs that will lean on Embiid, Drummond, Cousins 15-20mins/night. Those guys can probably be had cheaply (vet min or less,1yr deals) for example Baynes, Mejri, Dedmon (opts out), Monroe, O'Quinn (opts out), Zeller (trade), Noel? Brooks Lopez? etc. There should be plenty of those guys available this offseason.
