Joe Sullivan (@Globesullivan) is taking a buyout offer and stepping down as the Globe sports editor, a role he has held since 2005. Matt Pepin (@mattpep15), the Globe's current digital sports editor, will take over the job on July 9, Joe's last day.
To the extent he's been running interference for the deadwood, a few might be going. Can he take a few people with him? I have two in mind.
You may want to take a step back and cool out for a bit or probably go see a therapist. It may be wishing for the moon, but I hope this leads to CHB getting shit-canned in a massive public spectacle. I'll be disappointed if he retires gracefully. The CHB-era needs to end with an airing of grievances, Shaughnessy's head swelling due to an intoxication of helium infused vitriol - as he rises to a diabolic ascension, riding a billowing black cloud of resentment across Greater Boston, going back to answer every incendiary comment anyone has ever made on one of his articles.
The whole thing culminates when he makes an account on SoSH, starts a massive flame war, and makes a final post stating "YOU'RE ALL A BUNCH OF DICKLESS WONDERS. AND THAT EXCLUDES THE LADIES." before finally be banned. Two weeks later, his bloated carcass, festering with lesions is dredged from the Hudson River, but miraculously he lives on, infecting Yankee fans with a zombie norovirus. An unknowing Good Samaritan takes pity on him, crying out "oh, you poor man".
Bloated Zombified Disease Bag Shaughnessy flashes his crooked, blood-soaked, blackened, decaying smile and sputters, "sh'okay, fffsss-ff.... people sssseem to like me better this-sss way...", before shambling off into the sunset.
Sullivan doesn't place stories on page A1. That's the domain of the managing editor and his underlings.I will always remember you forcing Shaugnessy on us -- page 1 stories after every game in every playoff run of consequence on page A1. He had better talent in house -- Jackie MacMullen could've written the hell out of 2004 ALCS/World Series.
No shit. I'd be ready to start a KickStarter if I thought it would help.I dunno, I think he didn't go far enough.
Shaughnessys 2004 ws game stories were excellent, IMO. At the time I thought it was deadline sports writing at its near-finest.I will always remember you forcing Shaugnessy on us -- page 1 stories after every game in every playoff run of consequence on page A1. He had better talent in house -- Jackie MacMullen could've written the hell out of 2004 ALCS/World Series.
Nick doesn't want to leave and probably can't get fired absent serious layoffs. You people are all focused on the wrong guy.
Not sure if this is more an indictment of your sense of humor or mine. You may want to take a step back and cool out for a bit or probably go see a therapist.
CHB has been around for 30 years just ignore him.
People are losing their minds, man.Not sure if this is more an indictment of your sense of humor or mine.
So.. the answer is to ignore someone who has been one of the most cynical, least interesting, worst at his job, complete hack, only interested in getting clicks, writes every story as though he couldn't give less of a crap about what his audience actually cares about... just ignore him for three decades. Shaugnessy needs to go and be replaced by someone who actually likes Boston, Boston sports and his job.You may want to take a step back and cool out for a bit or probably go see a therapist.
CHB has been around for 30 years just ignore him.
Disagreed. I hate him so much that if he was a member here he’d be the only person I’d be excited to see his username in the ‘my dog just died’ thread. You may want to take a step back and cool out for a bit or probably go see a therapist.
CHB has been around for 30 years just ignore him.
Those are the two that I wouldn't be sad to see leave their current posts. Hell, the new guy doesn't even have to fire them or remove the from their beat, just make sure that they're less prominent. Neither of these two guys should be the Globe's national baseball or football writer.Nick doesn't want to leave and probably can't get fired absent serious layoffs.
Volins too young for a buyout.
No one else bothers me.
They did bring in Alex Speier - you can ignore Cafardo and just read Speier's excellent work and not miss anything.Amazing it took this long—-it’s obviously tough times in newspaper world but Sullivan has lost every talent the paper started for a decade while continuing to support Cafardo and Shank and largely whiff on new media and analytics.
I get there’s a union and so forth but (for example) he could have made Cafardo the high school reporter and brought in a legit baseball columnist. He didn’t.
