If you can, watch the first period. They are quick, have a smooth breakout and work hard to control the puck once in the offensive zone and generate chances. They also got much better goal tending in the 1st two rounds. Most importantly, they didn't face Tuukka Fucking Rask: @cshea posted in the game threads that they had an expected goal figure of ~2.5 in the 1st last night and they didn't score at all. That's nuts.I only saw the third tonight and that only from across a bar, but how has Carolina even gotten this far?
Admittedly I missed all of game 2 as well. The schedule hasn’t worked out for me so well.
If it weren't for the Canes the Bruins would be facing Braden F. Holtby right now. I'm cool with them.If you can, watch the first period. That 6 on 5 was a clinic in suffocating defense. In fact the whole last 5 minutes you could just see that the ice had shrunk for Carolina. Not that they had no chances, but there was an intensity to the defense and a closing of time and space that was really impressive and (I think) rattled Carolina to the extent that they were rushing and unable to make the plays to get really good looks. In that article it indicated that if you include the 6 on 5 time at the end of the game, Chara had over 7 mins of PK TOI last night. That's insane.
I’ll second the endorsement of The Athletic.via Fluto in The Athletic (Which you should subscribe to if you're not already doing so)
With Jake DeBrusk (slashing) and David Krejci (high-sticking) in the box in the first period, Chara stayed on the ice for a shift that lasted 2:15. At the endgame, Chara logged a 1:48 shift.
The Hurricanes did not score either time. They put three pucks on Tuukka Rask during the 5-on-3 and two at the end.
While there are certainly times he's looked a little rough the old man's still got it.
Yeah, the Bs were excellent at pressuring the puck carrier while keeping sticks in the passing lanes and not allowing the Canes the middle of the zone. Then once they got it out of the O-zone, the wings and centers fore-checked the puck carriers in waves to make it hard for Carolina to move the puck forward. That 6 on 5 was a clinic in suffocating defense. Kuraly at the end reminded me of Marcus Smart just shutting down an opposing PG under his own basket. It was a shame Kuraly couldn't pot an ENG towards the end, as he truly deserved it.That 6 on 5 was a clinic in suffocating defense. Was thinking the same. And how rare it is to see something like that in a man-down hockey game. To be fair, the d-man had probably been on the ice for the previous 90 seconds and was cooked (Slavin *averaged* 1 minute per shift), but still.Kuraly at the end reminded me of Marcus Smart just shutting down an opposing PG under his own basket. This brings me back to Yankee fans after game 4 in 2004. Always fun to remember.Fine, Bruins in 5.
Ha, I noticed that yesterday, but they fixed it by now. I figured we were going to play a few more just to stay sharp.Something seems wrong
What do you mean 'we'?Ha, I noticed that yesterday, but they fixed it by now. I figured we were going to play a few more just to stay sharp.
I’m Zdeno Chara. What do you mean 'we'?
Joking obvs, you can say whatever you want.I’m Zdeno Chara.
I meant the Bruins - we, Boston. Is that like not a thing here unless you’re with the organization?
It's totally normal and most every sports fan talks like that.I’m Zdeno Chara.
