I don’t read him either, but he’s got the writing chops to be professional, so that counts for something.See, I hate him as a writer because everything he writes comes off to me as "I'm smarter than you, everyone who disagrees with me is a complete idiot." I prefer to not be talked down to when reading.
Sorry, what? The Bruins were significantly better in game 1.Well, that sucked.
Also, Blues are pretty obviously the better team so far, with the exception of goaltending. Two games in Boston, 6+ periods, and Bruins have carried the play in only 2 of them, so about 30% of the time. The way they played today, they deserved to lose a not-that-close regulation game. Rask was the difference.
Now they go to St. Louis after getting split on their home ice.
If the Bruins have another gear, they need to show it ASAP or start getting their golf clubs out of storage.
Right. He’s emotional. We have to cut him some slack.Sorry, what? The Bruins were significantly better in game 1.
No, that's standard play from him.Right. He’s emotional. We have to cut him some slack.
As I said in my post, the Bruins carried the play in periods 2 and 3 of game 1. I agree they deserved to win, but it wasn't a wire to wire effort, they were dismal in the first and dominant afterward. Yesterday they were dismal from the opening draw to the Blues' OT gamewinner.Sorry, what? The Bruins were significantly better in game 1.
NHL penalty rules are fucking stupid. Grzelcyk gets his head drilled into the boards, perhaps ending his season, and that is a 2 minute minor. An accidental high stick draws a cople of drops of blood and it is a double minor? Idiotic. Is there a player in the league who would prefer to experience what happened to Gryz over getting a little cut?concerned Gryz has a severe enough concession for his season to be over, and the lockdown defense will have a hole in it the rest of the series. is this a valid concern or can Moore/Kampfer plug the hole?
From your fingertips...Bruins played like they thought just being the superior team would be enough. Marchand in particular never had his head in the game. I don't think they will make that mistake again. The Blues will continue to run around and play undisciplined in search of the big hit. The Bruins made the same mistakes of overpassing against Toronto and adjusted. They'll adjust again and take advantage of the opportunities the Blues will certainly give them. Plus, there is no way their power play stinks up the joint like last night. Bruins in 5, clinching at home.
The difference is that there is no referee discretion on the high stick when it causes injury. If it was left to the discretion of the refs you would see some nicks getting 4 one game while a practically severed head only gets 2 the next game. There is no consistency. The refs had the ability to call a major or even a match penalty for the hit and inexplicably left it at a minor. I don't see the NHL ever getting serious about head trauma. If it is obvious enough for the neutral observer to send the player to the quiet room, it should enough for the ref to assess at least a major for an injury resulting penalty.NHL penalty rules are fucking stupid. Edit: The Blues, BTW, seem to have pretty clearly decided that they are going to play outside the rules because the refs cannot/will not call everything.
41.1 Boarding: A player incurs a boarding penalty for body-checking a "defenseless" opponent into the boards with a degree of violence up to the discretion of the referee. "Defenseless" is emphasized because hitting a guy into the boards who braces himself for the hit is in most cases not a penalty. It is also important to note that "defenseless" does not necessarily mean a player whose body faces the boards, but any instance where he is not prepared for contact.
Referees have full discretion as to whether the hit deserves a penalty, and if so, what kind of penalty. Players must be responsible for their decisions to use body contact in the game, so players initiating hits must ensure their opponents are not "defenseless." That said, there are times when a player puts himself in a vulnerable position, and the player throwing the check can do nothing about it. Those instances can sway a referee's judgment away from calling a penalty.
On an obvious offside or icing play, any "unnecessary" impact between players that causes one of them to hit the boards is boarding. If there is no board contact, it's treated as charging.
41.2 Minor Penalty: The referee can say a boarding penalty was only violent enough to warrant a minor penalty.
41.3 Major Penalty: The referee can say a boarding penalty was severe enough to warrant a major penalty.
41.4 Match Penalty: The referee can say a player was intentionally trying to hurt someone and assess a match penalty.
41.5 Game Misconduct Penalty: If the referee invokes 41.3 and assesses a major for boarding, he must also assess an automatic game misconduct if the major penalty for boarding resulted in an injury to the face or head.
41.6 Fines and Suspensions: Two game misconducts incurred under 41.5 and/or 43.5 (Checking from Behind - Game Misconduct) in either the regular season or playoffs leads to an automatic one-game suspension. Every new game misconduct thereafter is another automatic suspension, increasing the number of games by one.
If 41.3 is invoked, the offending player is fined $100.
Like most of the next few rules we'll be talking about, the Commissioner has discretion to unleash Rule 28 Supplementary Discipline if so desired because of a violation of this rule.
This is an optimistic, and I hope correct, take.Bruins played like they thought just being the superior team would be enough. Marchand in particular never had his head in the game. The ice in St. Louis hasn't been great this season. They installed a new ice plant last Summer (part of a 3-year renovation), but I feel like I've heard more comments about bouncing pucks on the ice here this year than in past years.I wonder if the ice condition will be a factor for the next couple of games. St. Louis has had higher temps but lower humidity than Boston recently and in the forecast going into the weekend. I have to think that nicer ice will benefit the more skilled and faster Bruins.
Honestly, I don't really care if he gets suspended or not. It was an awkward play and a dangerous hit, but I wouldn't be upset if he didn't get suspended.I guess he gets a game? I didn't see much there beyond the 2 min on ice. Not going to make a big difference regardless IMO, Sundqvist and the 4th line hadn't been playing great these first two games
Cherry said on TV he beleived Bergeron was injured. Any news?Three things need to happen in Game 3:
That's really the story.
- Bergeron line needs to get rolling - and they usually do once they've been doubted.
- Defensemen need to clean up clearing attempts and breakouts.
Y'all need to calm down. It's like my brother texting me after Game 3 of the Columbus series that the season was over, and I shouldn't watch any more. It's nonsense.Well, that sucked.

This needs more attention than it has gotten so far. I am not creative enough, but....If "someone" was to buy ad space on the digital billboards on the way to, and around the St Louis Enterprise Center, sayyyy...from lunch until puck drop on...sayyyy Saturday (cough cough)....
What should said billboards read?
GO.
EDIT: Yes I'm serious. Space is scheduled. Just need to lay out the ads by Tomorrow afternoon.

Thoughts? We need someone much more clever than I.

Photos are absolutely okay if we wanted. Gotta keep it simple though. Can you put a picture up?
This is about where I fall. I thought it was dangerous and reckless and similar to the McAvoy situation in Rounds 2/3. Unintentional, probably should have been a major, but should likely get a game as a result (especially since the injury is more severe). I think he deserves a game but won't be furious if he doesn't get one.Honestly, I don't really care if he gets suspended or not. One thing that is underrated about this team is how much they care for each other, and Gryz is a very well liked guy. It seemed the team was visibly shaken by him being knocked out. I feel bad for Grz though. Living a lifelong dream and now it might be over. Brutal.

A combo of these would be my vote. The Championship years if a combo doesn't make sense. However, you should consider including Superbowl LIII on that list - salt in the wound, although they may thank Boston for that one. Whatever's worse.Need something that says we've owned your ass for 50 years.

The biggest issue I saw was the constant rotation of d-men, which I think wore them down. You especially saw this on the two Clifton penalties. They were rotating d-men out every 20-30 seconds since there were only 3 available for the PK, given they aren't going to put Krug out there. That said, they had to put Krug out there on the double minor once they got trapped in their zone for about a minute before going on the 4 on 4, which goes to show the desperation they were in to give guys a rest. One thing that is underrated about this team is how much they care for each other, and Gryz is a very well liked guy. Or do that one and the Krug black and white picture side by side.I would not be too cocky, but a billboard of sprawling Orr would be fantastic.

I'll mock up this version for sure....Or do that one and the Krug black and white picture side by side.
This would be quite good.Or do that one and the Krug black and white picture side by side.
Wasn't Kampfer their only choice then since Moore was hurt and not ready to come back? Moore played for Chara in Game 4 against Carolina, so I imagine it's him.So who plays for Gryz?
I know Kampfer stepped in earlier in the playoffs, but frankly I'd prefer John Moore.
