This is a fascinating question. Plenty of data exists on pitchers, for example. It would be great to see if something exists for basketball players. Is there any reason to think “mileage” has any negative effect independent of age? Particularly for guys still in their 20s, I would tend to believe that the wear and tear of an extra 30 hours or so of playing NBA basketball over the course of a career would be offset by the experience in game reps. Seems like it would be a fairly easy thing to study, if someone hasn’t already done so.
I tend to think that there isn't the same level of correlation. Basketball injuries in general tend to be traumatic, relative to the repetitive motion injuries more common to baseball. Both types clearly exist in both sports.
