We're laughing at him, not taking him seriously.Or any talking head with a "take." It's all pro wrestling. These guys are just cutting promos to get heat one way or the other. We should be better than this.
I think he means Tampa's 2nd round pick?What is tb2?
sorry. Typing on phone. Tb draft pick round 2.What is tb2?
Sounds to me as though you see it.I’m not seeing it. It’s silly season.
I mean, they clearly aren’t giving up a 1st or it would have happened already. And those 3 TEs are all awful. There is no coaching them up. They suck. At least Watson can catch a little bit. We’re going to give up a first for a guy who may be injured, who has missed games every year for injury, who plays a position that gets injured often, and who has averaged 2 catches and 30 yards when healthy this year.
I’m not seeing it. It’s silly season. Coach Tomlinson, Izzo or Lacosse up to block a little better and throw to Watson occasionally when he is open.
The delta between what Watson is now and what Howard was last year is significant. It would be a risky endeavor, which is why it won’t happen for a 1st. A 3rd and a later 2020 pick or 2021 conditional pick seems about right. But doubt Tampa pulls trigger on that. And somebody else probably beats it.If there is a possibility that the quarterback retires, it would kind of suck to hit the draft with no 1st and 2nd draft capital for the privilege of having OJ Howard and Mo Sanu.
The delta between Watson and Howard is exactly what?
Rather enormous, it is fairly apparent Watson has lost 3 steps since his first tenure in NE. He is also probably the only TE that could afford to lose 3 steps and stay in the league. Still he is now a 5-10yd receiving option max. Tomlinson and Watson are barely serviceable, esp for a NE offense that likes to get the TE down the field. Howard prior to this season has averaged 16.6 YPC exactly the type of seam buster this team has had success with in the past.If there is a possibility that the quarterback retires, it would kind of suck to hit the draft with no 1st and 2nd draft capital for the privilege of having OJ Howard and Mo Sanu.

One could argue that if there is a possibility that the QB retires, then this could be our last realistic shot for a while so we should maximize it.If there is a possibility that the quarterback retires, it would kind of suck to hit the draft with no 1st and 2nd draft capital for the privilege of having OJ Howard and Mo Sanu.

2018 Howard is absolutely worth a first. The sticking point here is knowing what Howard you’re getting. Right now, he’s not worth a first because there is too much risk. As for Watson, the team has already written him off before. He’s only back because of injuries...to marginal, at best, players. There’s a reason why the Pats have called about Howard and have already cut Watson once this year. Not worth a first, even a Patriots late first.
And Watson’s catch this week was for 26. Not sure why he is being written off after that and the Jets game.
No. He was cut, it's past the deadline, and a minimum contract wouldn't affect the formula anyway.Would signing someone like Allen screw up the comp pick formula?
Don't we expect to have 3 third rounders as of now?I feel like the only way for Howard to happen is for an overpay. Tampa won’t want to wait till 2021 and likely won’t settle for a 3. Only way I do a 1 is if we get back Howard AND a mid rounder so hopefully we have some flexibility to trade up. Can’t see the Pats wanting to abandon the first 2 rounds without at least having the mid round ammo to move up if a diamond begins falling
Right. That doesn’t mean the Pats will take a shitty deal. I don’t see them valuing Howard for a 1 straight up. Maybe Howard and a 4 or a 5.Don't we expect to have 3 third rounders as of now?
Who here is saying that Pats will give up a 1 for Howard? They clearly won’t. But there is real upside to Howard, especially given the needs of the team, that can’t be be overlooked. Late firsts are far from sure things. We’ve used them recently on guys like Dominique Easley and Malcolm Brown. If you could guarantee me Howard’s 2018 production for 2.5 years of control, I give up that first in a heartbeat. Obviously, nobody can which is why I wouldn’t trade the 1 for him.Right. That doesn’t mean the Pats will take a shitty deal. I don’t see them valuing Howard for a 1 straight up. Maybe Howard and a 4 or a 5.
I wasn't saying they would. I was saying they do have some ammunition to potentially move up in the draft, which is what you were talking about in your post.Right. That doesn’t mean the Pats will take a shitty deal. I don’t see them valuing Howard for a 1 straight up. Maybe Howard and a 4 or a 5.
Judging by these comments from Belichick, it is highly unlikely they make any moves today.

Other than Howard, what rookie contract guys on bad teams seem to be available? Most offensive linemen and pass catchers are either too valuable in future years for teams that suck this year to give up, or are making multi-millions if any good.We probably don’t make a move today but all that quote tells me is that a deal for a high salary guy is unlikely.
I don't think an OL would be the target. Would Cincy dangle a guy like Erickson? I think there are potential Van Noy deals out there that we could accommodate. Howard seems to be the only shiny object that we have any shot at. And we're probably going to pass unless the price unexpectedly drops precipitously. But we really have no idea who's been made available. Almost everyone has a price. If you start dangling a 1st round pick (not suggesting we actually will), guys who you didn't think were available become available.Other than Howard, what rookie contract guys on bad teams seem to be available? Why on God’s green earth would we trade KVN? He is unquestionably one of the keys to the defense.I think there are potential Van Noy deals out there that we could accommodate.
He means a KVN-style trade (picking up a no-name underutilized player who fits our system well), not trading away KVN.Why on God’s green earth would we trade KVN? He is unquestionably one of the keys to the defense.
Ok ... that makes sense but wasn't at all clear. If they trade any LB it should be Roberts (as Bedard has suggested), but I would be surprised if they did having already moved one defensive piece (Bennett) to open up some cap room (and probably quiet the locker room). He means a KVN-style trade (picking up a no-name underutilized player who fits our system well), not trading away KVN.
That’s not what he’s saying. He’s using KVN as an sample of an under the radar acquisition. Why on God’s green earth would we trade KVN? He is unquestionably one of the keys to the defense.
JMac is a fantastic starting CB, arguably top 10 in the league. He's not getting traded for a backup LT, especially with Wynn likely to come back.NFL Network's Ian Rapoport (and others) has reported the Philadelphia Eagles could consider moving reserve tackle Halapoulivaati Vaitai. Vaitai was the starting LT in Super Bowl 50. The Eagles need CB help -- maybe JC Jackson or JMac goes that way? Vaitai is in the last year of his rookie contract and his base salary was $2.025M, so he would be owed about $1M by the Pats for the rest of the season.
I wouldn't be surprised to see Tyler Eifert heading this way as a TE target. I bet a 6th would get that done.
That hit is $25 million per Spotrac. How would the Jets maneuver the dead money trading Bell would create given they only have north of 9M in cap space?
Sounds like bullshit, unless Mehta is assuming a Hail Mary scenario where the cap gymnastics (not to mention finding the right buyer) on both sides are navigated in mere hours.
Andre Dillard, their 1st round pick last year, is the successor to Peters and he's currently their starting LT as Peters is out injured. Dillard got the start last Sunday vs Buffalo and did well.If Philly is willing to trade Vitai, that itself is a red flag. They’re trying to contend this year, and Vitai plays a critical position at which they have a guy at the end of the line who has suffered several major injuries in recent years (Peters). In theory Philly should be looking at Vitai as the successor to Peters.
