I think its an oversimplification to just say, ”Well, 30 mill per season, of COURSE they weren’t going to match that!” I’m not convinced it would’ve taken that much or nearly that much had they treated him better last off season. Obviously, it’s all just conjecture, but maybe both sides would’ve been nudged toward middle ground if there had a been a what TB perceived to be a heartfelt effort to make him feel wanted PRIOR to this off-season. A three year deal worth, say, 70-ish guaranteed AND a “we really want you to retire a patriot, we believe youve got a lot left in the tank, blah blah blah...”
That kind of finesse-y sentimentality of course generates eye rolls from many here, there and everywhere, but it seems plausible that the whole package - the long term extension, the courting, the belief in him - would have an impact on Brady. Because from what we’re reading, it sure doesn’t seem like he felt wanted. Oh well. Stidham it is! (I hope.)
