It's the story of BC football. A nice little squad that can't execute a simple snap from center. Huge opportunity wasted.
Frustrating loss but are you kidding? If Daz were still the coach of this team they’d probably be 3-2 now, and if Spaz were the coach they’d probably be like 2-3. Plus they lost their starting QB for the year, as Ale says this is probably an easy win for them with Jurk. Grosel just isn’t very good unfortunately. So sick of this shit. Nothing ever changes. Haf has the right look and says the right stuff but his teams are no different.
No, I’m not kidding. Haf has them headed in better direction but they play sloppy as hell. I hate Daz more than anyone and certainly don’t want him back but I expect a good coach like Hafley to clean up the sloppiness and so far he hasn’t been able to do it. Tonight was a self-inflicted L. I understand your frustration but you’re flat wrong. The special teams play alone is worlds apart and they aren’t in this game without it. The time management at the end of the half was perfect and played out exactly as you would hope. The D was in position and the secondary played great. No, I’m not wrong. Just because they’ve shown improvement in certain areas doesn’t mean that they’re not unnecessarily sloppy. In the 2nd to last drive, their OL full of NFL talent puked all over themselves and effectively killed the drive. In the last drive, they literally couldn’t execute a simple snap. That’s a pee wee football mistake that simply can’t happen.I understand your frustration but you’re flat wrong. The special teams play alone is worlds apart and they aren’t in this game without it. Yes … the pre-snap penalties were killers and shouldn’t happen. If they continue to happen at home as opposed to one of the hardest places to play (Nevermind after almost two years since playing in such environment) it’s a big problem.
This is so far from a Daz coached team. He had no answer for anything, never adjusted and played not to lose. This staff let the game dictate its approach and when it was clear they had a sound D plan they ran the game accordingly. Grossel played hard but missed open shots all night and made 3 terrible TOs. That’s the difference.

Go ahead and make the Death Valley excuse if you want. There are plenty of tough venues to play and this Clemson team isn’t any good. We saw what Matt Ryan and Co accomplished in Blackburg and Death Valley. It’s all about execution. They’re on the right track but they’re not they’re yet.
I was referring to late game execution and they had 3 straight penalties and a terrible snap that lost the game. That ending was straight out of the Daz playbook. They’re clearly better off overall but their late game execution isn’t materially better. Just last week, they played super soft coverage on the last play that allowed the game-tying FG to occur. Thankfully, they atoned in OT.You said they’re no different from Daz. Yes that’s where you’re wrong.
I didn’t say they weren’t sloppy, that the mistakes weren’t killers and that this unit shouldn’t make them with such frequency. But to compare what happened last night to what occurred under Daz just isn’t close to the truth.
They’re clearly not there yet. With that I agree. This was a winnable with blame to go around. I just disagree that this is anything resembling the prior administration.

I really like Hafley but I expect better in these situations.
Yes, there were a lot of positives last night. The D held Clemson to 19 points despite O putting them in tough positions. It got the ball back in a do or die situation. As you mention, special teams has been great, which is really needed on a team with poor QB play. All fair and I think the coaching staff made some
errors and are ultimately responsible for not preparing the guys for the environment.
That said, the staff put the team in a position to win the game and it didn’t happen.
This one is frustrating because not only was it “winnable”. I feel like they should’ve won.
Yeah, I don’t blame Haf for Grosel. BC’s ceiling dropped dramatically as soon as Jurk got hurt. But still sucks to see 3 straight killer penalties doom what would have been a top 25 team had they executed. Maybe they can surprise us an beat NC State. Defense played much better than I expected so that was a positive.NFL teams fuck up the snap sometimes. It happened in a critical spot here, but unless it’s a chronic problem, I wouldn’t draw broader conclusions about coaching and execution.
The pre-snap penalties are a different issue, but there’s no way to practice executing in critical situations except being in those situations. If they were consistently committing pre-snap penalties, I’d blame preparation, but that isn’t what’s happening.
I’m not sure how Haf is supposed to have fixed the backup QB situation in his second season. No one worthwhile is going to sign out of the transfer portal to be our backup, and QBs recruited by Haf’s staff shouldn’t be expected to be ready for prime time yet.
It's tough w/the transfer portal to get someone to back up someone who's going to be there for 2 or 3 years.Haf coached a perfect game otherwise, great defensive effort and the offensive play calling was very good. But it's criminal to have that as your backup of a D1 program.
Matt Cassel have any ball-throwing sons yet? It's tough w/the transfer portal to get someone to back up someone who's going to be there for 2 or 3 years.
He’s answered this and made clear Grossel is the guy. I’m not sure I agree he was as bad as you say and I think I’m pretty sure the guys behind him just aren’t the answer. Daz never recruited any talent at QB.I think Hafley and the coaching staff believe(d) that Grosel could manage the game and provide enough replacement value to keep the ship steady if he was ever needed.
But now? He is making critical errors, wrong reads, isn’tbeing careful with the football, on top of his physical limitation (has no deep ball accuracy, lack of strength when not properly set in lower body). Kid has heart, no doubt about it but it’s not enough.
I think it’s fair to question the coaches on if they should continue to play Grosel over some of the younger QB’s if he’s going to act like an underclassman on the field.
Complete meltdown ever since the bad call.30,000 people are about to tell Jeff Hafley to piss off because he and his staff are running a smoke and mirrors show out there. Honeymoon is over. Absolutely terrible game plan, players didn't bother to show up, they know they have a patriot league QB and can't win with him. Complete mess.
Grosel is just horrendous. I feel bad for Zay. His numbers are going to get absolutely destroyed this year due to the Jurk injury. It's amazing, you want to run the offense through garwo and Barry so you have to stretch the field to keep them honest and there's literally nothing in the game plan to do it.
Had a feeling it was smoke and mirrors when the Mass Aggy game was competitive30,000 people are about to tell Jeff Hafley to piss off because he and his staff are running a smoke and mirrors show out there. Nobody could be worse than Chris Crane.Playing Grosel continues to be pointless. And a really bad sign that the coaching staff refuses to try anyone else over a walk on. Either every else really, really sucks or they’re being too stubborn. Who knows but this looks like a 5-7 team.
This would have been the clever response you were searching for had I not stated that it was possible that everyone else behind Grosel really sucks.Nobody could be worse than Chris Crane.
Well that and it’s not true. Had Crane not gotten hurt that year BC may won the ACCCG.This would have been the clever response you were searching for had I not stated that it was possible that everyone else behind Grosel really sucks.
After seeing the press conference, I agree. He answered in a classy way but I think someone else, perhaps Morehead, is going to start getting a serious look in practice.Well that and it’s not true. Had Crane not gotten hurt that year BC may won the ACCCG.
Based on Hafs press conference yesterday I think a change is coming. We should learn more today at his Sunday presser.
But here’s the thing. There needs to be a QB that could hit this wide open receivers even by mistake! It’s amazing that DG hadn’t hit a single one of those long passes with guys running free. After seeing the press conference, I agree. The simple reality is that everyone likely sucks so there isn’t even a Dominique Davis solution like there was in 2008. But at this point I don’t care. We need to see what we have now that this season is going in the crapper.
Still absolutely sucks that Jurk got hurt. We’re probably 5-2 or 6-1 right now if that hadn’t happened.
Yup. Like, we’ve seen him do it so not sure what changed this year. Too bad because he seems like a good kid but it’s just not clicking this year, for whatever reason. But here’s the thing. There needs to be a QB that could hit this wide open receivers even by mistake! It’s amazing that DG hadn’t hit a single one of those long passes with guys running free.
Dude can’t throw and yet we were still losing contain on him basically every series. This just isn’t a well-coached team right now. Also have concern on the other side of the ball. Is Cunningham related to Lamar Jackson? Looked like it.
Your source appears to be wrong.QB change coming today, Menard and Morehead both to play… got this from someone close to the program
When was the last time you saw a team have a first down on the other team's 15 yard line and have to punt? 4th and 40...although I did see a high school team make a first down with that exact down/distance a couple weeks ago.Yet another sloppy Jeff Hafley-coached game. Take away the QB stuff. OL stinks. Special teams screws up again. The mistakes keep coming.
Truly inept. Jurk might be the most valuable player in college football. Look at this trash without him. When was the last time you saw a team have a first down on the other team's 15 yard line and have to punt? 4th and 40...although I did see a high school team make a first down with that exact down/distance a couple weeks ago.
Most valuable since maybe Gordie Lockbaum at this rateTruly inept. Jurk might be the most valuable player in college football. Look at this trash without him.
He should have started the game. Hafley had all week to make the right decision and he made the wrong one.Cuse guy here.
I'd play the kid the rest of the way. Every time they brought in the 6 year dude we all breathed a collective sigh of relief.
Morehead looks like he is gonna be a problem.
I'll take it. Stranger are the games we have 200+ yards on the ground and lose.He should have started the game. Hafley had all week to make the right decision and he made the wrong one.
Syracuse completed 5 passes and won by 15. You won’t see that too often. Congrats on the W. BC has a long road ahead.
