Sarcasm isn't your thing, huh?Well, I don’t know anything about this guy, but here’s one take on the context:
Oh wait…that guy is you.
You literally described the context.

I argued this a few weeks ago when the Pats kicked a million field goals in a win. “You can’t win by kicking field goals”, we are constantly told.""The quickest way to win a game like that is to score touchdowns not field goals, especially considering who's on the other side." Chargers coach Brandon Staley on being aggressive on 4th down against the Chiefs."
And there's the rub; there are teams that when they play the Chiefs, they have a mindset of it's going to be a shootout, you're not going to beat this team by kicking field goals.
Which is exactly what would have happened if they kicked two field goals inside the 5 vs going for touchdowns, then throw in trying a FG from I think it was the 35 or so vs going for it again on 4th down.
That's 9 points they left on the field by being too aggressive vs the Chiefs.
They also scored 7 points on a drive they extended with a fourth down conversion, and another conversion later indirectly led to another score (they wound up fumbling on the goal line, but then the Chiefs threw a pick, so they got the ball on the 2). Replacing all the failed conversions gets you 9 more points (assuming you kick your field goals), but replacing all the 4th down attempts gets you somewhat less.""The quickest way to win a game like that is to score touchdowns not field goals, especially considering who's on the other side." If the Chargers had kicked just one, they win, which proves your point.I argued this a few weeks ago when the Pats kicked a million field goals in a win. “You can’t win by kicking field goals”, we are constantly told.
Well, yes you can, if you kick enough of them.
Going for it on 4th down to keep a drive going is one thing; going for the TD vs kicking the FG is another. They also scored 7 points on a drive they extended with a fourth down conversion, and another conversion later indirectly led to another score (they wound up fumbling on the goal line, but then the Chiefs threw a pick, so they got the ball on the 2). Obviously you /can/ win with field goals. It’s not all of nothing. Looking at this game we can say ‘it’s so obvious, they should kicked instead’. Sometimes you see other games where ‘it’s so obvious, they needed to go for it.’If the Chargers had kicked just one, they win, which proves your point.
You can go back and forth about it; just take the points.
I guess it's a case by case/flow of the game issue.Obviously you /can/ win with field goals. It’s not all of nothing. Looking at this game we can say ‘it’s so obvious, they should kicked instead’. Sometimes you see other games where ‘it’s so obvious, they needed to go for it.’
there isn’t an ‘absolute answer’, and this discussion of ‘you must/you mustn’t’ is a little silly it seems.
yeah a field goal could have been the winner…but you can’t know that at half time or whatever. Maybe the Chiefs could have scored another touchdown…and then you’re looking at losing in a totally different way.
Exactly my point.I guess it's a case by case/flow of the game issue.
If the Chiefs were lighting up the scoreboard and you were in the middle of a shootout and your defense was getting torched, then sure, go for it, you really have no choice as you try to match them score for score.
If not, it's up to the coach to decide, he gets paid to make those sort of decisions.
It's part of the strategy of the game.
I switched over to the NFL Films music on RedZone as soon as that segment started.why do we have a sex in the city thing on NFL today? I can't think of literally anything I'd less rather see
I heard Chiefs just signed NothDoes the NFL know one of the Sex and the City guys just got hit with like four sexual assault accusations. Bad timing.
Weather issues there?I've just been watching for a couple of minutes, but Josh Allen appears to be having a very rough day so far. Multiple misfires, and now as I type this a fumble that the Bills were lucky to recover.
If the Panthers defender falls on the ball instead of trying to scoop it, they're 40 yards better off.I've just been watching for a couple of minutes, but Josh Allen appears to be having a very rough day so far. Feature, not a bug.Does the NFL know one of the Sex and the City guys just got hit with like four sexual assault accusations. Bad timing.
Just cold and spitting snow, no wind apparent. Balmy for Buffalo.Weather issues there?
Such a strange sport. Miami D has been dominant lately; Jesters O has been very bad. Wouldn’t know that from the opening drive.Dolphins D just got absolutely punked
I feel like other teams don’t get trolled as bad as us. That running clock graphic was some bullshit.Oh man ... CBS put up a clock showing "Time since last Jets touchdown"
Jets then score
Doesn't seem like it. About 28 degrees with light to moderate breeze. (9 mph)Weather issues there?
Agreed ... that's the type of shit best reserved for opposing fansThat running clock graphic was some bullshit.
There ought to be a kicker hired to be at every NFL stadium for every game, in much the same sense that there are emergency goalies in the house at NHL games. Not having a kicker is going to kill the Panthers today. That and the fact Cam stinks.
Buries them three feet deeper than they would have been? Not having a kicker is going to kill the Panthers today. That and the fact Cam stinks.
There were actual twittering twits last night claiming the Patriots would have beaten the Colts had Cam been the quarterbackBreaking news: Cam is not great.
if the punter is the holder it’s tougher I thinkI will never understand how a punter can’t even attempt field goals in a emergency
The level of stupidity on Twitter seems to have increased, which is really saying something. There were actual twittering twits last night claiming the Patriots would have beaten the Colts had Cam been the quarterback
The two are really different skills. Not having a kicker is going to kill the Panthers today. That and the fact Cam stinks.
Is this a joke about the Jets?AFC East is going to be the next super-division, like the NFC West is now. BB has reloaded the Pats and has a good QB on a rookie contract. The Bills are good, and will be for a while. And for the first time in forever, the Dolphins and Jets are both headed in the right direction.
Zach and Saleh are too handsome to fail, I truly believe that.Is this a joke about the Jets?
Douglas is well respected, and it’s a total TBD on Saleh, but they’ve got so many talent deficiencies that I’m not sure how you can conclude anything more than ‘the Jets have a lot of picks and cap space so maybe they can become good in the next 2 years’.
They have no idea if they have their QB, most problematically.
Jets are definitely not headed in the right direction at present.AFC East is going to be the next super-division, like the NFC West is now.
