The roster is pretty inflexible right now. They are carrying the max of 23 players, 13F, 8D and 2 G. They have around $500,000 in cap room, which isn't enough to call up a forward from Providence. It seems both Hall and Foligno have been ruled out for Thursday but we don't have any idea of the severity of either injury. Monty didn't seem overly concerned about Hall, so hopefully he's back sooner rather that you never know. We'll see with Foligno. They can go 11F/7D for a few games if that's all it is but it's not ideal. They don't have anyone who can be sent to Providence without waivers. Greer is a possibility to be waived but he's had a decent year and is dirt cheap for this year and next so I'm sure he'd clear.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them try to clear out Zboril either for an incoming, cheap, forward or in a separate deal to free room for said forward. They value the d depth but he's clearly not in their plans. He's played 2 games since 11/23, both as an extra D and given less than 8:00 of TOI in both. It would give the roster more balance and the D depth would remain with Reilly and Stralman as 8-9. It just kinda feels like Zboril is where Studnicka was right before his trade. Nowhere to play him, would make sense to swap him out for a similarly priced F.
Some other ancillary goals they may have before Friday. If Zboril doesn't get traded maybe they find a way to move Reilly's $1.875 burried cap hit to open cap space for the rest of the year for recalls and to cover some of the bonus money that needs to be accounted for. I don't think they'd trade both Reilly and Zboril unless there was another D coming back, but we'll see. Additionally, they are at 48/50 contracts. They may want to shed a contract or two to keep some flexibility with the NCAA signing period coming up. I'm not sure what that market looks like but if there's a McLaughlin type that they like and they ned to burn a year to sign the player they probably want the room to do so. They also have Lohrei likely signing, although my assumption is they'll do a PTO in Providence and only sign his ELC if injuries get to the point where he's a legitimate possibility to play in the NHL.
