That was......not very good. I've got notes after watching this, and went in with high hopes. "Fenway Park (up to 45% non-Fenway filler)" would have been a more appropriate title. Not sure what Shea, Yankee and Busch Stadiums have to do with Fenway; or Huntington Avenue Grounds for that matter. Selling Ruth and that extended curse nonsense? Maybe they could have mentioned that the transaction included a mortgage on the fucking park they are doing a profile about? David Ortiz became a Red Sox legend in 2013? Had been pretty invisible up to that point in his 10 year Sox tenure. Glad he got a chance to make himself immortal. Bill Lee's story was great, but maybe a snippet instead about what standing on the mound was like? I could go on but already feeling salty enough.
Other takeaways:
- 1st time I've watched any extended Game 6, 1986 "highlights" and felt nothing. In fairness, only watched more than the 2 second Buckner clip thrice since that night, but there was the time in 2003 where the PTSD led me to walk directly into a bar and drink several shots of whiskey.
- This was the 1st time I've watched The Steal and felt 10000% sure he was in well before the tag was applied. Up to now that tag looked instantaneous with Robert's hand touching 2nd and felt the ump would call him out.
- Ortiz still brings a tear to my eye when watching 2004 highlights. It's 19 years later and my love for that man hasn't ebbed in the slightest.
