Not sure what you're talking about.I believe this is called "pulling a Dombrowski" - acquiring players with little regard for future salary implications and then leaving it to someone else out to figure out the mess once the bill comes due.
I'm not saying he didn't do a great job assembling that team, just as DD did a great job assembling the 2018 Red Sox. Obviously, flags fly forever and you do whatever it takes to win championships. Not sure what you're talking about.
Myers built the dynasty mostly through the draft and then was tasked with maintaining it while also trying to rebuild.
What high-priced players did he "acquire" who haven't been contributors? What bad contracts has the team entered?
The Poole contract is their ONLY bad contract (I guess you could also call Klay's remaining year a bad contract, but that contract made perfect sense at the time), and that contract may not actually be that bad, all things considered, and will likely be moved in the off-season.
DD built a single championship team by stripping the minors for parts and entering some bad contracts. Myers won 4 titles over 12 years as a GM, and all of the contracts he entered are defensible. They have nothing in common.I'm not saying he didn't do a great job assembling that team, just as DD did a great job assembling the 2018 Red Sox. But the Warriors are slated to be like $50m over the cap next year with a tax bill of over $200m, under a new CBA where that level of spending basically eliminates any possibility of doing anything in free agency other than re-signing your own guys, and limits what you can do via trade as well. And Klay has seemingly aged rapidly and even Curry isn't getting any younger although obviously he's still great.
My point is that I think Myers knows that this team has peaked and will require at least a partial, if not full, teardown/rebuild to become a true contender again and he (understandably) doesn't want to be around for that process.
I think the Spurs like Wright but that would be an interesting fit given Wemby, Keldon, Vassell, cap space and a bunch of picks coming next few years.I’d watch for Myers and San Antonio. Building the Wemby Empire.
Clearly Myers had a more successful run/careerDD built a single championship team by stripping the minors for parts and entering some bad contracts. Myers won 4 titles over 12 years as a GM, and all of the contracts he entered are defensible. They have nothing in common.
Yes, was intended to be humorous and wasn't intended to be a one-to-one comparison. Anyway, we can move on, sorry for the mini-derailing of the thread.Clearly Myers had a more successful run/career
BUT I think @OurF'ingCity was being sarcastic/joking because the new CBA is going to complicate things for the Warriors (& isn't Bob's fault at all)
at least I found it kind of funny.
That was my first thought, he read the new CBA and realized that he didn't want the teardown of the Warriors on his resumé.I believe this is called "pulling a Dombrowski" - acquiring players with little regard for future salary implications and then leaving it to someone else out to figure out the mess once the bill comes due.
Also mine, if only in his recognition that the Warriors are post peak and the CBA makes the road ahead look pretty perilous. That was my first thought, he read the new CBA and realized that he didn't want the teardown of the Warriors on his resumé.
Yeah, the more impressive feat was saving his salary slot by trading him for Russell, then upgrading to Wiggins. The latter was seen as a career disappointment and arguably a bust, and he turned into the 2nd most important player on another championship team. That's some impressive maneuvering. And ‘signed Kevin Durant’ with found money? Who wouldn’t have tried to sign him with that new cap space that was the product of the one-time skyrocketing cap event?
Fair enough, and I thought Wiseman was going to be at worst a Timelord type guy.The Wiseman pick looks to be an all-time gaffe but there were heavy rumors that LaMelo didn't want to go there and basically tanked his pre-draft stuff with the Warriors on purpose
"Closing Time...."
Would Kerr/Myers consider taking over in San Antonio if/when Pop gets done?"Closing Time...."
I wouldn't want to deal with the Draymond Green or Klay extension talks either. Kerr has a year left.
Bob Myers is an LA guy without any connection to Pop or San Antonio...maybe if he wanted to be a package deal with Kerr and Kerr convinced him but Myers by himself doesn't have any history thereWould Kerr/Myers consider taking over in San Antonio if/when Pop gets done?
He’s smart enough to leap at his next frontier of building the Wemby era.Bob Myers is an LA guy without any connection to Pop or San Antonio...maybe if he wanted to be a package deal with Kerr and Kerr convinced him but Myers by himself doesn't have any history there
I think Pop/Brian Wright/RC Buford are all smart enough to stick around for the first handful of years of that too..He’s smart enough to leap at his next frontier of building the Wemby era.
