What about letting Turner walk, moving Devers to DH, and signing Matt Chapman?
Chapman would be a really good fit. But he'd be a good fit in the Bidet as well, and the Red Sox won't get into a bidding war.

Besides, if you move Devers to DH, where are Yoshida and Casas going to play?

Probably going to get a fair amount of Murphy today & then they'll send him down tomorrow.

It's a problem. At least the other two can get better. It's too early to give up on Yoshida being able to play competent outfield. There were times last year when we would have said Duran is hopeless. I know it's different because Masa has experience in the Japanese league, but he still could end up ok.

I don't see Raffy getting better. He's getting worse -- I think he's been the beneficiary of some really generous scorekeeping, but you look at the body of work and it kind of it what it is.

Casas is young enough to feel not entirely pessimistic about improvement on D. Yoshida…well, we suffered Manny.

They have the right strategy. Be patient and wait for Javier to leave something in the zone. It’s just the contact has been weak pop ups.
Only one who really fucked it was Devers swinging way out of the zone but otherwise yeah, just need some better results. Astros pen soon however.

You have to keep Devers.
Just playing devil's advocate here but ... why? The system, or so we keep hearing, is loaded with infielders who can hit and play defense. I mean, it's extremely unlikely they would consider moving Devers, but I don't think the concept is worth rejecting out of hand

Paxton showing some life. Working a bit quicker. Easier when you don't let guys on base
Pitch clock, man. Momentum is a thing in baseball now. When a pitcher is in a groove, it hurts the offense to have to get back in the box so quick. When the pitcher has stress, it snowballs quick. It has completely changed baseball.

This is where I am. If you can trade devers to a team who can slot him at dh or 1b, I think you have to explore that. Tons of young pieces and a good farm…and post devers trade plenty of money to play with

Because he's a DH. Raffi is a DH. Masa is a DH. One of them has to go. They are not trading Devers. Ans Casas would bring the best value.
But, I doubt they do any of that and we'll be bitching about the bad defense next year.
I think if you trade any of those guys it has to be Yoshida, but that looks unlikely after year 1 of a 5 year deal. Devers and Casas splitting DH & 1B is livable if you upgrade defense at 3B and LF.

If Casas can become just a bad range but decent glove guy, you take it because he is going to fucking mash.

I don’t know, maybe the answer is Rafaela alternating OF and 3B to limit the games all of them are on the field together.

Frankly idgaf about overpaying a mostly DH and the Red Sox should not either if it is the difference between being where they are and hitting a new level with this core.

I fucking LOVE that approach by McGuire and don’t know why more guys don’t try it

I wonder who would take him now without significant cash going the other way. Yankees are off the table.

I could see it happening if the Red Sox were willing to pay. But "he's blocking guys" is probably not a winning answer to "why do we want him if you don't." Maybe it is. It's a big contract.
