"We traded the bus for Kevin Millar."
Can someone give me a rundown of the Millar thread?
Oh please you can’t leave me hanging like this"We traded the bus for Kevin Millar."
This is SoSH, what would we have if we didn’t have taking baseball too seriously?I, for one, am enjoying this thread immensely. These twists and turns are a lot of fun, and I love the collective meltdowns and eruptions and tantrums that accompany each one. Anyone not having fun with this may be taking baseball a little too seriously.
Well seems like we’re gonna find out something soon. Giants are out of the bidding.

I’m hoping John Henry reads tweets like these, takes one too many sips of Petrus, and says “Fudge it” and goes all in.View: https://twitter.com/jonheyman/status/1737999862627766456?s=46&t=ruXftPZUQ24009U4JlZWeg
Heyman - Yankees have made a significant bid on Yamamoto, but at this point haven’t heard, one way or the other
This is why I’m disappointed that no one from the site has tracked him down, placed an AirTag on him, and we don’t have a more direct “live feed” coverage of his whereabouts, meal choices, sleeping habits, and all the other important things. This is SoSH, what would we have if we didn’t have taking baseball too seriously?
This glorious train wreck of a thread! This is SoSH, what would we have if we didn’t have taking baseball too seriously?
For those of us that have been around for a while this is still only 1/10th what it was like when G38 came for Thanksgiving and the ARod trade that ultimately wasn't.This glorious train wreck of a thread!
After the Sox, this was my choice, however unlikely, because I'm in the Bay Area and the buzz when the Dodgers and Ohtani came to town would be really fun.Was really hoping he’d go to harmless SF assuming he isn’t coming here.
The best part is that it's gone on long enough that I've been able to go through multiple cycles of constantly checking and then needing a day or two away. This glorious train wreck of a thread!
Second hand reporting and not what Martino actually said. What he actually said was:
He only has a limited number of characters and wastes a bunch on "one way or the other."View: https://twitter.com/jonheyman/status/1737999862627766456?s=46&t=ruXftPZUQ24009U4JlZWeg

Okay, I had to google that: "Theo has a list??"I think the only way he signs in Boston at this point is if Steve Cohen, Hal Steinbrenner, and Mark Walter all end up on the Epstein list.
He paid for Twitter, he's not that limited. He only has a limited number of characters and wastes a bunch on "one way or the other."
He's very limited. But point taken. He paid for Twitter, he's not that limited.
What’s Theo doing now?I think the only way he signs in Boston at this point is if Steve Cohen, Hal Steinbrenner, and Mark Walter all end up on the Epstein list.
We've reached the "we're all gonna die" portion of this Irwin Allen movie. If Shelley Winters wants to go swimming, so be it.Why exactly do people post tweets by team fan accounts and Twitter randos here? There's no reason to post tweets here by anyone other than legit MLB reporters like Rosenthal, Passan, etc., the fan accounts don't know anyone or anything and are making things up for retweets and followers, probably so they can game Twitter's ad revenue scheme.
Because we are at the threshold of hell of this off-season that has been hijacked by one player. Why exactly do people post tweets by team fan accounts and Twitter randos here? There's no reason to post tweets here by anyone other than legit MLB reporters like Rosenthal, Passan, etc., the fan accounts don't know anyone or anything and are making things up for retweets and followers, probably so they can game Twitter's ad revenue scheme.
This is bingo for me, and why I'd be shocked if he's not a Dodger when this is all said and done. The Dodgers have a clear need with Buehler questionable to start the season, Kershaw a FA and not available until late summer, and Urias out of the equation. They also offer the best potential living and hospitality situation for a 25 YO, and perhaps the most dedicated ownership group in the sport who actively invest capital while also maintaining a top tier farm system. Oh, and the Ohtani factor. It's a well oiled machine. Sox can't compete with that right now unless YY's motivations are to be THE guy in an ongoing rebuild.Honestly it would be kind of shocking to me if this came down to a pure bidding war. As a 25 year old I’d care a LOT about where I was living. And I’d also care about the team’s current talent, future talent, and general plan to compete for titles for the next 10 years.
IIRC there was a lot of "Who the fuck is Kevin Millar?"Can someone give me a rundown of the Millar thread?
And didnt they piss off All of Japan or something by hijacking him, and that was of some concern?IIRC there was a lot of "Who the fuck is Kevin Millar?"
Which is where someone like Randy Johnson shines in the regular season throwing 250-270 innings from 98-02.There is of course enormous value in using ‘Wins’ to compare players, and maybe this has come up before, but it gets squirrelly for me when applied to an SP in the ‘Ace-case’ when looking at actual wins. Like 98-00 Pedro went 19-7, 23-4 and 18-6…how much is that worth?
So Yamamoto spurning the Red Sox is payback? And didnt they piss off All of Japan or something by hijacking him, and that was of some concern?
Because even the legit reporters are just speculating, and sitting quietly at home and waiting for YY to call a press conference would be no fun at all?Why exactly do people post tweets by team fan accounts and Twitter randos here? There's no reason to post tweets here by anyone other than legit MLB reporters like Rosenthal, Passan, etc., the fan accounts don't know anyone or anything and are making things up for retweets and followers, probably so they can game Twitter's ad revenue scheme.
Right you are and as we all can see, relations between MLB and their Japanese counterparts were never the same again. And who can forget the outrage from the Sons of Randy Bass? And didnt they piss off All of Japan or something by hijacking him, and that was of some concern?
I'm personally at the "Gene Hackman questioning God" scene. We've reached the "we're all gonna die" portion of this Irwin Allen movie. If Shelley Winters wants to go swimming, so be it.
Millar was waived by the Marlins as a first step to send him to Japan. Waiving him was a formality and no one was supposed to claim him. However, the Red Sox wanted him and teams generally don’t waive guys and send them to Japan when a major league team is interested in the player. Chaos ensued after the waiver claim. Can someone give me a rundown of the Millar thread?
Oh I know the backstory. Just wondering what went down in the thread.Millar was waived by the Marlins as a first step to send him to Japan. Judging by that, the Red Sox could be the mystery teamMystery team alert!!! Baseball media pulling out the greatest hits.

During the period where it wasn’t settled lots of talk about how the Marlins screwed Millar, discussion on what the appropriate compensation was, I believe there were outside sources criticizing Theo for even putting in the claim so everyone was defending that.Oh I know the backstory. Just wondering what went down in the thread.
I’m sure it was a blast. And that’s probably the thread where Cabin Mirror was born.During the period where it wasn’t settled lots of talk about how the Marlins screwed Millar, discussion on what the appropriate compensation was, I believe there were outside sources criticizing Theo for even putting in the claim so everyone was defending that.
Didn't "Red Averages" come from the translation of some of the Japanese articles? It's wild to me that I was 16 as that was all unfolding and I still remember reading it here.During the period where it wasn’t settled lots of talk about how the Marlins screwed Millar, discussion on what the appropriate compensation was, I believe there were outside sources criticizing Theo for even putting in the claim so everyone was defending that.
This guy is so well sourced that he knows Yamamoto’s order of preference, but doesn’t know that the mystery team is the Red Sox.Mystery team alert!!! Baseball media pulling out the greatest hits.

I think Red Averages was indeed a translation from Japanese but my memory is that it was the same article that talked about Ortiz' quadrangulars. But not sure. @Red Averages care to weigh in?Didn't "Red Averages" come from the translation of some of the Japanese articles? Pretty sure if was from the Dominican translation days. I joined in the early 2000s. Now @Average Reds …. Who knows. That’s just a totally wrong translation!!I think Red Averages was indeed a translation from Japanese but my memory is that it was the same article that talked about Ortiz' quadrangulars. Posted two hours ago and so far no confirmation from any baseball reporters.https://x.com/tyschmit/status/1737993190181892273?s=46&t=C8a3sVGT_H8R11hYecv0uA
Hearing from very reliable sources that Yamamoto to the Yankees is done. 9 years $326 million. Being told Godzilla Matsui helped push it over the goal line.
Yoshi keeps the #18 jersey.
No way that dude is scooping Passan at ESPN.Posted two hours ago and so far no confirmation from any baseball reporters.
