What is Howe even talking about here?Jeff Howe with a piece that puts Bill’s dismissal squarely at his feet with respect to his struggles with the offense – and says he botched developing Mac:
I know there are a lot of posters who will argue until they take their last breath that Mac Jones is responsible for Belichick’s demise. I understand that POV. But Howe is a good reporter and he doesn’t let Mac off the hook. More importantly tho, it is not only a ludicrous premise that the career of the GOAT coach who literally had murderers on his teams could be ruined by a single player – it also goes against all the evidence.
Bill’s repeated inability to plan for personnel and coaching departures—Gronk, Brady, McDaniels, Ernie, Scar—undermined his ability to coach up and assemble an adequate offense. And without that you can’t win games in football. Thats why he’s no longer coaching the Patriots.
That’s like getting “yes” and “no” mixed up. It does change the meaning slightly.I think he means "set against." He doesn't get the turn of phrase right.
If they can they will be the first example of ownership doing so well. Unless you think GM Jerry has done a great job.Obviously poor decisions of meddling by ownership can ruin an otherwise good franchise, but is there a lot of evidence that the Krafts can't buy good groceries?
That;s just a lot of us. Our sin is we didn't make enough noise when it mattered.I literally can’t believe that we got rid of the best coach in history that almost every other team in the league would kill to have. But hey that’s just me.
Uhm see Bobby grier yearsObviously poor decisions of meddling by ownership can ruin an otherwise good franchise, but is there a lot of evidence that the Krafts can't buy good groceries?
I don't think Bill wants to play this game. And good for him. He's always been about "his job" and anything that detracts from that is kind of pointless. He's really coming out as the adult here. And I respect him for it.Weird how all the incredibly sourced hatchet jobs on Belichick have come out immediately, while there's been nothing much written about anyone's else involvement here. Maybe Bill's waiting to bring the hammer down w/ his media cronies in a few weeks?
Look, 100% they needed more weapons the last few years and made some brutal decisions from a roster-construction perspective. No disagreement there. Blaming solely Belichick for what Mac Jones has done the past 2 seasons, though, seems pretty outrageous to moi. And even with that said, if you want to fire him, fine! But don't feed us all this after the fact BS about his personality or management style or anything else being the real reason he's being let go. Like I respect Mike Reiss as a reporter, but seriously, a non-optimally placed pin on Bill's shirt at the coaches meetings last fall is the LEAD of an article about him sowing disfunction in the organization?!
The Krafts were jerking themselves off constantly (not even trying to refer to The Florida Affair here) when this coach was running the roster and leading the team to an unprecendented run of success. He is 1b responsible for elevating them and this franchise into football royalty. As it has stopped working, I fear the Krafts telegraphing a need to step into areas they don't know anything about (like managing a successful NFL roster,. or coaching a successful NFL team) in order to prove that they themselves also deserve a bunch of credit for how good the Patriots have been.
There's a reason Bill Parcells derisevely referred to J. Kraft as "Harvard" once upon a time. I'm bearish on any NFL team where ownerhsip starts to get overly involved with decision-making. Obviously owners are going to want major decisions run by them, will ask questions, etc. but getting too hand-on has pretty much always spelled disaster for any team in this league.
Posted something similar in the other thread, but it appears both mayo and wolf had the approval of kraft at the expense of BB and the culture he had created, warts and all. Not coincidentally, both of these guys end up on top.I don't think Bill wants to play this game. And good for him. He's always been about "his job" and anything that detracts from that is kind of pointless. He's really coming out as the adult here. And I respect him for it.
As to meddling, I think you're right and the worst form is where there's no interference, then just a bit, then more, etc. Having no clear idea of expectations is what erodes trust even more than the general issue. I fear that is what happened here. (And of course, the results were bad, which antagonizes everyone.)
If that same great coach hadn't proven to be a mediocre or worse talent evaluator/GM over the last 5 years, it never would've come to this. I get being upset about losing his coaching acumen, but it's a package deal and the cons are starting to outweigh the benefits.I literally can’t believe that we got rid of the best coach in history that almost every other team in the league would kill to have. But hey that’s just me.
If it was a locked and loaded slam dunk and teams would kill to have him, he would have been picked up already.I literally can’t believe that we got rid of the best coach in history that almost every other team in the league would kill to have. But hey that’s just me.
Actually, that’s not true. Teams will be waiting until after the divisional round as per league guidelines on interviewing. We don’t even know how his agent has responded to inquiries so far. Maybe Bill is taking a few days to assess, especially when the hiring process for coaches hasn’t even begun in earnest. If it was a locked and loaded slam dunk and teams would kill to have him, he would have been picked up already.
What? Lol he might end up in Philly or Dallas if this weekend goes wrong for one or both.If it was a locked and loaded slam dunk and teams would kill to have him, he would have been picked up already.
Yeah but they haven't hired him yet, so he's washed! What? Lol he might end up in Philly or Dallas if this weekend goes wrong for one or both.
That’s not how it works. He has to wait anyway, and he may wait to see what’s the best team that axes their coach. If it was a locked and loaded slam dunk and teams would kill to have him, he would have been picked up already.
I mean, you're talking about the guy that scouted and advocated for Tom Brady.Uhm see Bobby grier years
By all accounts that wasn't Grier it was Dick Rehbein.I mean, you're talking about the guy that scouted and advocated for Tom Brady.
Plus Parcells learned to love Terry Glenn, who is still one of the best receivers the Patriots knew in terms of yards and catches per game. (although perhaps unfortunately)
I saw that the Chargers and one other team, maybe the Titans, have concluded their coaching interviews and BB wasn’t mentioned as one of the interviewees. Do teams have to disclose exactly who they interviewed before making a decision? That’s not how it works. He has to wait anyway, and he may wait to see what’s the best team that axes their coach.
Certainly don't want to take anything away from Rehbein as the first advocate but he obviously couldn't have done all the Patriots scouting on Brady since he only just joined the team.By all accounts that wasn't Grier it was Dick Rehbein.
I have not heard any reports that any team has interviewed Belichick. That’s not how it works. He has to wait anyway, and he may wait to see what’s the best team that axes their coach.

Set to meet. Does not mean that the interview has happened.
I'm worried about Jonathan Kraft's role moving forward and I haven't listened to 1 minute of sports talk radio in over 3 years. The prevalence of Jonathan Kraft talk on this forum is a key indicator that far too many of you people listen to sports talk radio. The leakage of that shit into this space is making the whole place borderline unreadable.
Those guys are missing out on a quality caller then.I'm worried about Jonathan Kraft's role moving forward and I haven't listened to 1 minute of sports talk radio in over 3 years.
To me, it's also a key indicator that many people here are too young to remember when we had multiple crappy owners of Boston sports teams. The Krafts (and Henry & Werner) don't get a free pass from me, but I need to see a lot worse from them before I start actively rooting for opposing teams and coaches to embarrass their team. The prevalence of Jonathan Kraft talk on this forum is a key indicator that far too many of you people listen to sports talk radio. Wow,.clever burn. Multiple internet points sir. Those guys are missing out on a quality caller then.
It is kinda funny that many people who constantly berate the Boston sports media also have a distaste for Jonathan Kraft… due to reports in the Boston sports media.
Same. I don’t even live in New England, so I’d have to proactively find a web stream or whatever. And I definitely don’t do that just to listen to the mouthbreathers on EEI.I'm worried about Jonathan Kraft's role moving forward and I haven't listened to 1 minute of sports talk radio in over 3 years.
“There is one guy who has been doing it for 20 years, and now everyone has got their say, and it has the potential to be Dallas all over again,” a veteran coach said. “The owner has been held back for 20 years. He is going to be involved. His son is going to want to be involved. It will be interesting if they tell the coach it was Bill’s fault with Mac Jones and he can play and we gotta get him right.”
This headline is literally based on comments by a random coach. It's silly season right now around this team.
Gotta get them clicksThis headline is literally based on comments by a random coach. It's silly season right now around this team.
It is very much silly season, but the thought has entered many people's minds here as at least the Pats becoming the Cowboys is not difficult to see. This headline is literally based on comments by a random coach. It's silly season right now around this team.
I can honestly say I haven’t listened to EEI or Sports Hub in the last 8-12 months. My perspectives on the Krafts has nothing to do with what Felger or any other talking head has to say. BB and Brady deserve the lions share of this teams credit. RKK deserves credit for having the guts to hire BB and stay out of his way until the Brady saga. Time will tell on the owners involvement going forward but to claim that posters don’t have their own thoughts is pretty ridiculous given the ownerships preferred media has been the one advancing the opposite narrative and I wouldn’t say your opinion is driven by the likes of Curran or Wickerham. The prevalence of Jonathan Kraft talk on this forum is a key indicator that far too many of you people listen to sports talk radio.
