I mean, that would be a one in a trillion trillion trillion shot if it's real.

What channel? It's not on the Golf Channel yet.Tiger off. Definitely getting Slazy vibes from the logo. Made birdie on 1 but everyone does. The walking seems a lot better but only a hole and a half.
JT's drive on 2 ended up against the netting from the driving range which is OOB and he has to bank his 2nd shot off the netting to get it back in play.
Thanky. Tuning in.ESPN+
Golf Channel goes on air at 4:00pm EST.
He said after the round that he was having back spasms.Tiger with a shank on 18.
Only watched a few holes, but thought he looked pretty good before that.
His interview at the Sony Open this year when he detailed his experience is worth a watch. Can't even imagine what he was going through.Anybody else that didn't know about Gary Woodland? Apparently had a brain tumor, almost died, had surgery in September, and is back playing in the Genesis.
One of my favorite players, glad to see he's ok.

Yeah, it's stramge. Between the ESPN+ crew for his first few holes and the GC crew, nobody has said he was dealing with an illness or even looked sick. Everyone said he was moving gingerly and speculating it was the back based on the back spasm comments yesterday. They have cameras on him every second, I don't think there was a single sneeze or cough or ducking into a bush to puke? It also seems out of character for him to WD for an illness. That seems kind of weird
He probably doesn't want to talk about his back.Yeah, it's stramge. Between the ESPN+ crew for his first few holes and the GC crew, nobody has said he was dealing with an illness or even looked sick. Really weird.
Maybe, but he was talking about his back yesterday saying he had spasms. Why get coy today? He probably doesn't want to talk about his back.
Getting back to this for a second. Woodland can thank being in the Genesis to JT's recent run of good play. JT was slotted to get the last Sponsor's Exemption, but when he qualified on merits, the SE went to Woodland.Anybody else that didn't know about Gary Woodland? Apparently had a brain tumor, almost died, had surgery in September, and is back playing in the Genesis.

Edit: disregard. Tiger wasn’t driving. They are saying Tiger has flu like symptoms and received IV fluids. They just showed him driving away in a Genesis sponsor car. No worries there.
The real question is who calls an ambulance a "paramedic truck"?Glad he didn’t have to take the paramedic truck.
First time I had kidney stones I was on-call in med school. The senior resident diagnosed me with back spasms, gave me 10mg Valium, and sent me home. On my way out I stopped in the bathroom and passed the stone. And felt pretty good the rest of the night.First time I had kidney stones I thought it was back spasms …. Pure conjecture
Golf is full of moronic rules. Land in a divot in the fairway? Fuck you, hit out of it. Don't hit it in the fairway next time, loser. It's a multi-billion dollar professional sport where they make the players keep track of their own score. Then penalize them when they get it wrong... because the officials are keeping track anyway. I love golf, the game, but the people in charge of the game are complete assclowns. Is there a more archaic rule in sports than professional golfers needing to even sign/turn in a scorecard at all?
Obviously dumb of Spieth to get DQ'd since he knows the rules but it's kind of silly this is even a thing in 2024.
I would think he would be the last guy to break this rule given the 700 words he exchanges with his caddie over every shot.Wow. Spieth was DQ'd for signing an incorrect scorecard
It is quite difficult to sign an incorrect scorecard. Scorecards are kept in 3 different places (players own card, walking scorer devices, Shotlink backend) and at the end of each round there is a blind validation between the player's card and the Shotlink system. If they don't match, it will get corrected on the spot before the player signs. Is there a more archaic rule in sports than professional golfers needing to even sign/turn in a scorecard at all?

The divot rule is not moronic. The only remedy to to play preferred lies in the fairway and that advantage is way too large of an offset from the occasional bad break of landing in a divot. The problem is that you can't define a "divot" in any way that is objective.Golf is full of moronic rules. Land in a divot in the fairway? Fuck you, hit out of it. I don't think anyone is saying Spieth should get special treatment. In this case, could you go back and verify what happened in just about every one of Spieth's shots? Sure. But could you do that for every player in the field? Not necessarily. So should Spieth get special treatment?
I would guess less than 1/10th of the shots hit by the entire field are televised. How do you verify the rest?So what happened then?
I don't think anyone is saying Spieth should get special treatment.
But in a televised event in 2024 when it's very clear what score everyone got, should there be any mechanism at all in place that could disqualify a player for signing an incorrect piece of paper? It's entirely nonsensical.
I would say if it is not grass and a dirt lie, it's a divot. Not too complicated. Works for a local course I play as well where grass can't grow in certain areas...just drop it no closer to the hole where grass is actually growing. For the pros, their fairways are fairly pristine so sitting in a divot is WAY below replacement level and probably worse than sitting up in the rough. The divot rule is not moronic. The only remedy to to play preferred lies in the fairway and that advantage is way too large of an offset from the occasional bad break of landing in a divot. You don't have to define a divot. Lift, clean, place--anytime it's in the fairway--easy fix. And the added benefit is it will encourage players to hit fairways. Onward! The divot rule is not moronic. The single fundamental rule of golf from the beginning of its existence is to play the ball as it lies. They should be doing that more often, not less in my opinion, including with TIO and things of that nature. You don't have to define a divot. Lift, clean, place--anytime it's in the fairway--easy fix. Agreed. Especially when pro golfers have these rules ingrained in them from the first time they picked up a club as kids in competition. This isn’t some “gotcha” from the PGA rules folks. It’s standard stuff that they are well aware of every single time they play. The single fundamental rule of golf from the beginning of its existence is to play the ball as it lies. Also players keeping each others scores is also a rule since golf began. Its why I could see Old Tom Morris' card from an old Open championship at the museum of golf.
Both of these rules are fundamental to golf and have been around for hundreds of years. Blaming them on golf leadership is odd, in my opinion.
Give players two free "lift, clean and drop" options per 18 holes. If there is a bad divot or other temporary hazard they want to avoid, they can drop up to 1 club length further away, straight line, away from the hole. You don't have to define a divot. Lift, clean, place--anytime it's in the fairway--easy fix. And the added benefit is it will encourage players to hit fairways. Onward!
Every hole has cameras, shotlink, etc. Obviously the tournament is keeping real time score of all of the players accurately without the players submitting a Docusign after every hole.I would guess less than 1/10th of the shots hit by the entire field are televised. How do you verify the rest?
Edit: This week is a small field. In a normal event there are twice as many players. So its a very small % of the shots that get televised on thur/Fri.
Not every hole has shotlink or cameras.Every hole has cameras, shotlink, etc. Obviously the tournament is keeping real time score of all of the players accurately without the players submitting a Docusign after every hole.
The players don't need to be involved in score keeping at all, and certainly don't need to be disqualified for making a mistake while doing it.
