    would be more than fine bumping Whitlock from the rotation given that he, once again, has broken down after not even a handful of starts. He just isn’t cut out for starting, period. Time to pull the plug on the experiment and put him back in the pen where he shines.

    They essentially swapped Sale’s spot with Giolito. If they don’t sign Giolito, they almost certainly don’t trade Sale. So far that swap isn’t exactly working out for the Red Sox.

    The funny thing is if Sale does what I expect and balls out this year and puts up like 4-5 WAR, his extension won’t look nearly as bad but the Red Sox will look worse because they lost out on the majority of his production on the extension and paid his entire salary for him to do it elsewhere.

    Sale tried it in 2019 when his elbow first barked. It didnt work for him, but it did work for Tanaka, Price and others.

    This is revisionist history. Sale had thrown 200 innings four times before signing that contract and had never missed significant time with a serious injury. You know how many 200 innings Giolito has? Zero. And he’s already had one Tommy John.
