    Splendiferous news!

Kendrick Bourne staying in Foxboro: 3 years, $19.5 million(up to $33 million)

Good to hear. Seems like a good guy who loves being in New England. Between this Henry, Austin, and even Wheatley, the FO is doing well by signing half decent to solid, productive players all at reasonable costs. Like the vintage BB years, in fact.

    The Bill Simmons Thread

That's a really interesting point. Every female music fan I know is as into male artists as female--but I don't see quite as much reciprocation on the other side--definitely some, just as not to the same degree.

    The Bill Simmons Thread

I’m not making rules, I’m making observations. And I was intentional about limiting them to pop music, where youth has held sway for roughly 75 years. I was also careful to say that anyone is free to weigh in on anything. But it’s one thing for you and me to discuss pop music on a message board...

    The Bill Simmons Thread

Yes, everyone is potentially her audience, everyone can have an opinion, and anyone can discuss legacy--but Taylor Swift's legacy is not going to be determined by currently middle-aged people. It will be determined by her core audience--a core that self-selects as it does for any artist. Barring...

    The Bill Simmons Thread

And for a clarification of my own—especially as a middle-aged white man with a surfeit of opinions on pop music—I’m not denying anyone’s right to opine. What I am saying is that questions of legacy in pop music primarily inhere to the people who are the artists’ primary audience, which is...

The Beatles definitely did. They were extremely popular globally--with albums and paraphernalia being smuggled in an around the Eastern bloc and other authoritarian regimes in addition to their preeminence in the U.S., Canada, Japan, Western Europe, Latin America, Australia, New Zealand at al...

Thoughts/Impressions on “The Dynasty” Apple TV Series

With the caveat that none of us knows all the details, BB could have taken Hernandez's fear that his life was in danger much more seriously. Coupled with what the organization already knew about the player continuing to hang with a dangerous crew from Bristol, it seems clear--to me at...

Thoughts/Impressions on “The Dynasty” Apple TV Series

I love BB and really enjoyed the way most of Episode 5 was a celebration of his genius in that 2008 season. But man, did he look awful around the Hernandez stuff. (And the highlights made me amazed all over again by what a great football player AH was.)

Thoughts/Impressions on “The Dynasty” Apple TV Series

Not a single Deion Branch highlight in these two episodes bothered me--he was TB's original mind-meld WR, and a SB MVP to boot. I miss Scott Pioli even more now--he had genuine insight about the addiction to winning and what Mangini's betrayal in Spygate did to BB. And h/t to...

That was then: Celebrating what was

This is true—but as the doc shows, the media narrative was that, as well as Brady was playing, the job belonged to Bledsoe. I remember well how pronounced the disconnect was between fans and “the Lodge” and the national commentators.

Thoughts/Impressions on “The Dynasty” Apple TV Series

Overall, this has been really enjoyable, a pure shot straight into Pats' fans veins. A few stray observations: I was really surprised to see so much of McGinest and wondered when they shot these interviews. Did they consider leaving Willie out and/or doing later shoots with, say, Bobby Hamilton...
