Is Connor Wong a starting catcher?

Very cool. He was a catcher himself, no?

    2024 Rotation and Bullpen

Thank you, nvalvo, for that excellent explanation. Because of the vagaries of ERA for relief pitchers, I've always kept and eye on WHIP as a better indicator of their performance. Sounds like FIP does that quite well, and I especially like the future value of it. Thanks again.

Is Connor Wong a starting catcher?

That play should be shown during GG voting! Are there even 5 MLB catchers with the speed to make that play?

    2024 Rotation and Bullpen

Nicely done. Although I know FIP = Fielding Independent Pitching, I don't know the details. Is it typically greater than a pitcher's ERA, as shown in your table?

    Red Sox acquire Zack Short

I know we've all seen it multiple times, but any mention of the BrockStar prompts me to resurrect this scrappy play: View: https://youtu.be/UhuQo_tFwjc?si=XRFwJ9KTlhjt0Paj

March/April: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

I love the start to the season, but it's a little sobering to realize the Sox are 11-13 in games in which they don't toss a shutout. C'mon bats! Here's hoping everyone gets as hot as Abreau.

May: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

True, but I sure wish he would shorten his stroke a little. He's quite the free swinger.

March/April: Red Sox discussion, observations and trend tracking...AKA It's not all about the Benjamins

I think the defense will get better with C-Note at SS and Grissom at 2B, the hitting will improve a little (Grissom is a ++, more players likely to improve than degrade), the relief pitching will improve a little, and a successful season will be weighing on how much or little the starting...

Sox to trade for Garrett Cooper, Pablo Reyes DFA’d

And when Romy's back (soon), he can replace Hamilton or Dalbec.

    Anxiety is Good for You

I guess I missed that episode. That's some fantasy. It looked like Radar must have played some ball because he didn't look as bad as most actors. Thanks for sharing that!

Bello to IL with lat tightness

On the positive side, if this is a develop and progress year, lots of guys can develop at the MLB level now.

Bello to IL with lat tightness

Well, Casas was quoted as saying he felt his issue a day or two prior and tried to play thru it, resulting in an actual injury that will keep him out for weeks. I'm okay with a couple weeks off for Bello, but, man, this is almost a joke.

    Grading the Umps - March/April

Didn't Dalbec get jobbed twice on called third strikes last game that were outside?

Yoshida says, "climb aboard boys, I'll carry you home". And Abreau say, "hold my cerveza".

My Ideal Metric - TOTAL bases

I was really encouraged to see the MassLive article on Houck's performance in his "Maddox" to say this: "Houck has made an effort to not overthrow this season. With all the focus in the game on velocity, that’s been hard at times. But he’s found that the less he exerts himself on the mound, the...

    If you were a ballplayer...

The only skill I see that I had that was translatable to pro baseball was great footwork around the bag as a short first baseman. I'm amazed sometimes at seeing the MLB players' funky steps at 1B. I topped out in Legion ball (age 18) and was not good enough for my CT HS team (Jeff Bagwell played...

The Frailty of the Modern Pitcher

It's only a sample size of 1, but I saw an early season game, Sox at Texas, which the Sox won 2-1. It should have been an exciting game (Papelbon's first save!) But the later innings dragged on for me. I'd rather have a 5-4 game or even a 9-7 game. As an aside, it's amazing I barely remember...
