The 2017 system: What do we have here (really)?

I think that waiting out and playing hardball would have caused the price to go down. I thought fair market value would have been to leave out those prospects in the deal, or at least replace those prospects with a lesser prospect.

Gone but not forgotten - Dombrowski's Dealings.

Really wish Dombrowski had not included Dubon in the Thornburg deal. No one knew how big of a bust that trade would be at this time, but I still felt that including Dubon with Shaw was an overpay. With the infield injuries the Sox have suffered, a depth piece with the potential to be a starter...

    Mookie To 2nd?

Yeah was probably a pipe dream regardless, do you think Rutledge will take over 2nd base?

The 2017 system: What do we have here (really)?

Should have clarified here, I think that the Sox should have included a lesser prospect than Dubon, and don't think it was necessary to have all 4 prospects in the Kimbrel trade. It would have been nice to have those guys back as I did not agree with the Thornburg deal.

    Mookie To 2nd?

I understand this is extremely unlikely, but is there any of chance of moving Mookie to 2nd if Pedroia is out for a long time? Have Young in RF, Bradley in CF, and Benny in RF. Would be better than Rutledge at 2nd IMO

The 2017 system: What do we have here (really)?

This is a great example of why we have unnecessarily included good depth prospects in trades. For example Dubon would be great to have, especially with the Pedroia injury. And a guy like Logan Allen would be nice to have kept out of the Kimbrel trade.

    Evaluating the 2017 Red Sox

I agree with that to an extent. If Pomeranz is a below average 4 and we trade for a 5 I still think this team could make the wild card. When in the playoffs, a rotation of Sale, Porcello, E-Rod could give the team a chance.

    Evaluating the 2017 Red Sox

The biggest issue in the long term is starting pitching. Pomeranz averages 4.2 Innings a start, one of the worst marks in the majors for a SP, and I do not view him as a viable starter. We clearly also have no #5 starter. This means that if Price fails to come back in his last season form we...

Joe Kelly...a solution for 5th starter?

I had debated the potential of Kelly as a #5, but the opportunity cost of taking him out as our 2nd best reliever at this moment would not be worth it.
