NBC has the match of the weekend on CNBC this morning while people in warm clothes battle slippery surfaces on the main channel. I’m guessing they wanted to separate the divers from the Winter Olympics so there was no confusion about Spurs competing for a medal.

The best part of Kane's goal was the Arsenal defender bitching at the AR because he thought Kane was offside even though Kane never went past the defense even when he headed it in.

I thought the were calling for a push off.. I didn’t hear anything about offsides

It was the push, not an offside question.

Offsides is hockey.
It’s Offside in hockey as well. At least in my neck of the woods. More to the point, Arsenal were complaining that Kane had used the defender to launch himself as high as he did. Replays seemed to indicate the (minimal) contact occurred in mid leap. Didn’t look like a foul to me.

Duly noted..Never really thought about there being a difference
The folks that make a big deal about it are the same that make a big deal about calling a ball bouncing over the fence a ground rule double.

So, me.

The pregame show said Otamendi is out for the year but I can’t find what happened. Did they misspeak or did I misunderstand?

Craig Pawson missed what looked to be a pretty clear foul by Smalling just outside the area

edit: on that note, not sure how Yedlin managed to escape a caution pulling back Lingard

edit 2: NBCSN at half confirms the Smalling non-call with Gayle appeared to be in the area. The fact that it wasn't at least deemed a foul outside the area is glaring

Not a MU fan, but I'm pretty annoyed at how Mourinho is using Pogba. You can't get a player like that and ask him to sit back.

How many former Southhampton players are on Liverpool’s roster?

Quick search shows Clyne, van Dijk, Lovren, Mane, Lallana, Ox (obviously not a straight purchase), anybody else?

It’s too bad Klopp couldn’t start them all today (realize Clyne is hurt) that would’ve been a troll job I could get behind.

Wouldn’t have been against seeing Firmino win the penalty (if we’re counting the levels of contact that earned Spurs penalties) and get a yellow card for embellishment.

I love him but when was the last time Mane passed to an open teammate when Liverpool were breaking with a numbers advantage?

California. Duh.
That was a delightfully boring second half.

It's nice when they have a two goal lead that it actually remains a two goal lead for more than a couple of minutes.

Did you see the little kid with the sign saying something like “ITS MY DREAM TO GROW UP TO PLAY FOR SOUTHAMPTON. And then get signed by Liverpool.”

The 718
The decline of Southampton is sad. They've been consistently top-half for several years and occasionally threatened for a spot in Europe. Now they're in the drop zone, and most of the others down there have shown some life (other than WBA and Stoke, whose decline is also sad). I think you have to look at them going down. Too bad.

I thought Southampton played really well in the first half .. created several good chances .. but completely fizzled in the second. The Salah goal seemed to kick all the stuffing out of them.

And VVD looked great. Calm, cool, collected and completely commanded his area of the pitch.

Their "decline" is having all their best players bought up by the other teams. It's hardly surprising, every decent young player they've showcased has been snapped up. It's really hard to consistently replenish, even some of the shadier youth oriented co ownership promoting teams in europe miss for a few years from time to time.

They've also lost a lot of managerial talent over the past 8 seasons: Nigel Adkins, who lead them to two promotions; Pochettino, who has proven to be top notch; and Koeman, who won over 48% with Soton. The Puel & Pelligrino hires show how hard it is to keep that pipeline running, too.

England's striker options for the World Cup are interesting. Obviously Kane is on the plane as the number 1 choice, Vardy is probably number 2, but who else?

I suppose Kane at the top with Vardy coming in with fresh legs is pretty much all they are going to need barring injury. For a depth piece they could go with Rashford, get the teenager some run.

I think Lingard has outplayed Dele this year and could be the top CAM.
