Ground Zero
Balfour blows another one last night. 2 walks, 2 singles in the bottom of 10th. He's been a disaster. The shambles of a pen, especially early in the season before the emergence of Jake and the Box, really has been the key factor in sinking the season.

There apparently were 2 minor league umps as part of the crew, along with CB Bucknor behind the plate. Great combo. Halfway thru Balfour's meltdown, he had a 2-2 count on Donaldson. On the 2-2 pitch, Donaldson went about 3/4 of the way around, but Bucknor didn't call it and the minor league guy at 1st base ruled it a check swing on appeal. Maddon got tossed, Balfour went on to walk Donaldson and the meltdown continued. When it's not your year, it's not your year.

Someone's Molars
2010 1st rounder Chris Sale suspended again.

Rays 2010 first-round pick Josh Sale was suspended 50 games by MLB for a failed test for a drug of abuse.
This is the third suspension for Sale in two years.
Sale, 23, received a 50-game suspension after testing positive for a performance-enhancing near the end of 2012 season. He was just about to return with advanced Class A Charlortte when he made a Facebook post about a visit to a strip club and the team suspended him indefinitely and sent him home for the rest of the 2013 season.
Sale was invited to the team's winter development camp in January and at the time said he had put his problems behind him during the time off.
"I knew I had to go home, grow up, take care of a lot of things. It was demoralizing, but something that my actions induced,'' Sale said.  "I was able to grow up. That's what really needed to be worked on, just me as a person, doing what I can to better myself, because nobody's bigger than the game."
He was reinstated just before the start of the season and joined the Stone Crabs, hitting .238 with four homers and 46 RBIs in 90 games.

Ownership is disappointed with how Colletti constructed a roster that, despite costing a record $240 million, lacked the pieces to compete with the versatile Cardinals. The Dodgers payroll is expected to drop into the $185-190-million range next season to offset expected financial losses from the unworkable television contract with Time Warner Cable, and ownership could be looking for a new vision that will rely less on high-priced free agents and more heavily on the farm system. Their top target appears to be Andrew Friedman, the highly regarded 37-year-old general manager of the Tampa Bay Rays who built a World Series team out of one of baseball’s
Would be a big loss for the Rays...
