Two quotes from the same Gregg Doyel article:

As we know, statistics occasionally lie. The statistics say Andrew Luck had perhaps the best season of his career.

The statistics lied.
The talent around him is wrong, the offensive line in front of him is wrong, the coaching on the sideline is wrong. But all of that has been wrong since the day Luck got here, and still he entered the 2015 season as statistically the best young quarterback ever.

Must be an Indy thing. If the numbers don't fit your narrative, assume that someone is lying and/or cheating. If the numbers make you look good, print them on a flag and wave them from the mountains.

On the "Young Quarterbacks Your Team Would Love to Have," list, Luck's name stands alone
Oh really? Not Dak? Not Wentz?

Marcus Mariota, 22
Jameis Winston, 22
Carson Wentz, 22
Dak Prescott, 23
Derek Carr, 25
Russell Wilson, 27
Andrew Luck , 27
Cam Newton, 27

Not saying I would rather have these guys over Luck but I certainly don't think Luck's name stands alone. If we are factoring in salary, he might be outside the top 5 under 30-year-old QBs in the league.

I think you meant to say this:
If the numbers look good, print them on a banner and hang it from the rafters.

Let's see what Wilson's next contract is before we (imply) that the Seahawks got the better deal. If, in 4 years, Wilson gets the first $300M contract with $150M guaranteed, this Luck deal will be seen as a bargain.

Oh, and the thread title? Unless the Colts go 0-16, this will not be Grigson & Pagano's Last Stand. That's just wishful thinking.

I thought he was safe, or good for another year. Upon further Googling though, Indy Star said even though he survived Black Monday, he wasn't necessarily safe. Obvious now.

Someone is happy

I don't think they will announce Manning news until after the SB. Gives them time to work out the details. Also, I'd bet in favor of Pagano remaining as HC next year.

Do have to wonder if McDaniels' name getting back in the mix might persuade Irsay to make a clean sweep of things. Potential to work with a top-flight QB (if not a hell of a lot else) could be inviting.

But with what coaching staff? It's awfully late for that, and I don't see the Pats allowing him to raid the staff. Assembling the staff is what drives the rush to the offseason.

I think he is quite coherent and reasonably articulate. Many NFL owners would stick to the press release and not subject themselves to this questioning.

Well the author already is epically wrong in declaring that Grigson is "here to stay."

Who in the NFL other than owners gets an equity stake. To the best of my recollection, there has been one guy. Don Shula in Miami a long time ago. Like almost 50 years ago.
Wasn't Elway offered a piece of the Broncos?

Yes, and he kicks himself daily for turning it down. So that makes two offers, one acceptance.

Interesting to me is whether Manning comes anywhere near Elway in putting teams together. We may see.

Fuck that team generally and all that, but it's hard not to smile a little for Pagano getting the last laugh on that asshole.

The problem with Grigson (and others) is that they ignored other positions in order to give their QBs toys. So the solution is to bring in one of those QBs?

If Manning has the choice between a DL and a new toy for Luck, will he go DL?

Former QB Elway seems to know that a balanced team is the way to go.

Well, the flip side of that could be that he spent all those years with a shit defense and only got to two SBs in 14 years because of it. Then he went to Denver and a great defense got him there twice in 3 years, one of which he has to admit to at least himself, he rode their coattails on. Your stance is valid I think, but I also think he may view it a bit differently now than he would have ten years ago.
