If DJ can putt like he did this past week, I like him as a choice at those odds as well.

I'm not touching DJ with a barge pole in any major championship from here on in. Maybe as an each way bet, but he's got too much baggage at this point to win - here are the final two paragraphs of a column I wrote after last year's PGA Championship:
Which brings us to Dustin Johnson. Johnson leads the PGA Tour in tournaments for which experts say about him, “This course is just perfect for his game,” and when he led after 36 holes at St. Andrews in July, the natural response was of course Johnson is leading: his gargantuan length, silky touch and redneck ease make him a more talented version of John Daly, and Daly won an Old Course Open 20 years ago. But being Dustin Johnson, he then shot 75-75 and finished so far behind his namesake Zach – tied for 49th place with, among others, David Duval – he needed binoculars to see the leaderboard. And on Sunday at Whistling Straits, another “made for Dustin” course, he opened with one of the worst quadruple bogeys you’ll ever see, taking six shots to hole out from behind the green.

Unfortunately, flattering to deceive is now Dustin’s specialty. He has at least one major Top 10 finish every year since 2009, but every time he reaches the cusp of greatness he detonates with unimaginable ferocity: whether he’s harshly penalized for grounding his club in a “bunker” (Whistling Straits again, 2010), fluffing multiple chips (Pebble Beach, 2010), gacking a 2-iron out of bounds (Royal St. George’s, 2011) or three-putting from 12 feet (Chambers Bay, 2015), something spectacular always seems to go wrong. The Monty Abyss yawns in front of Johnson now, and unless he gets over the hump soon, it’s increasingly likely the torch of “finest golfer of his generation to never win a major” has already been passed.

Sadly, Fred Couples had to withdraw due to back issues. As a kid who grew up idolizing him, I still enjoy watching him play at Augusta, but can't imagine he has too many left in the tank.

I got DJ to be leading after the 1st round at 18 to 1, which is a bet I like a lot better.

I wonder how they handle the wine. I bet Augusta has a spectacular wine cellar, but I'm guessing the host has some responsibility for bringing the wine. The Caymus and Cakebread are fine, but Adam Scott served Penfolds Grange, and Tiger after his first served a '75 Mouton and a '95 Batard Montrachet.

Off topic but just caught a recap of a press conference and would just like to comment and say how much I hate Nicklaus. Simple question about Palmer not being able to hit the ceremonial first ball and the prick can't just drop his ego and be gracious to a contemporary competitor that is failing in health and might not be around next year. No, he has to tell anecdotes about himself and Gary Player and toss in a one liner about Palmer. Gfy Jack.

Why do you actually hate Nicklaus? I think it's pretty remarkable how dignified he has remained throughout both his career and retirement - Federer seems a good contemporary comp.

Heard the Mike and Mike interview and agree it was gracious and complimentary. Also can't understand any Nicklaus hate.

Did anyone watch the "'86" special on the Golf Chanel last night? It was about the '86 Masters, with interviews with Jack, his family members, fellow golfers, and patrons who where there that day. Really well done, and was struck by the reason Jack wore yellow on Sunday. Watching this might mellow anyone's hate for Jack.

I'm looking forward to watching "86", I DVR'd it last night while I was OD'ing on MLBEI.

Jack's Augusta arrival is a fun watch...

Is anyone going be viewing the DirecTV 4K coverage? If so, I'd love to hear what you think of it.

Not trying to get anyone on my team, I just find Jack to be a sanctimonious prick and he's up there with Johnny Miller for me. I'm glad he was gracious with Mike and Mike and I will try to catch "'86". Won't change anything.

I watched it too. I thought many of the patron experiences were pretty bland. Although I get what they were trying to do with that, since other specials have covered the highlights and Jack's feelings and anecdotes before. I'm glad they brought up the part about Verne Lundquist copying Ben Wright's "Yes, Sir!" call. I had noticed the similar calls before in past shows, and wondered if there were any ill feelings since Verne's gets more attention (it definitely is the better call).

Has anyone ever heard the yellow shirt story before? Maybe because it happened so long ago-the kid died in the early 70's?-it just hasn't been a topic, but its a great story.

I thought the same thing when I watched it. I thought as the question was being asked "this might finally be the time that Jack drops his ego and gives a sincere and emotional response about Arnie" and then he just flat out basically ignored the question. I was pretty pissed when I saw it.

Jack is awesome. I'm all in on Team Nicklaus. Arnie is a phony.
I live in Columbus and it's no secret that Jack is a dickhead and most people from this area can't stand him. There's a reason that most of the tour players admire Arnie more than Jack.

You're flat wrong about Arnie, he's the furthest thing from a phony. You're either trying to stir the pot or are very misinformed.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who is aware Jack is a prick. And we seem to have shared the same emotional response watching that, because as I heard him speak I felt the same.

Wetzel has a pretty good article up about Bryson DeChambeau, who is playing as an the reigning US Am champion. I had heard of DeChambeau before, but I didn't really know his full story.

https://www.yahoo.com/amphtml/sports/news/one-amateur-golfer-asked-a-question-that-could-change-the-sport-forever-155952673.html

Interesting read. DeChambeau's irons are all the same length.
You would hate DeChambeau if you played with or behind him. He is molasses. Hopefully, he'll speed it up at Augusta.

Some good news on the featured group streaming. Per sbnation:

All the usual griping aside, Chairman Billy Payne did make a nice expansion of the digital streaming that Masters.com has controlled over the years. In the past, there would be two "Featured Groups Streams" that would go live at Noon on Thursday and Friday. This year they will be combined into one main stream and go live from the start of the first group's round, adding about three more hours of coverage. It makes sense, but given where we were last year, this is still a big change.

We've been asking for this for so long, and now we finally get it. That means on Thursday, you'll be able to watch Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler and others from the first tee. Once those two groups finish up, the stream drops back to two later tee times for a second shift, and then again for a third shift until the conclusion of the round. Here are your featured groups for the first two days:

Thursday Featured Groups

The stream has been great thus far. Sometimes i get firewalled and sometimes I don't in my office. This year, there is no firewall, so it's been enjoyable to watch.

Very smart decision grouping him with Spieth. Easy to glimpse golf's next great rivalry. Perhaps I'm getting too far ahead, however.

The reigning US Amateur champ is always paired with the Masters winner from the previous year.
I read two articles about how the groupings are determined before I posted that so I wouldn't sound like an idiot. Neither mentioned this. The takeaway is as always. Rely on SoSH for accurate and complete information. All other sources are suspect.
