Yeah, if Rickie is in the top 3, he's in and ZJ is out. Not sure it matters, because they are both being named either way.

And then Rickie promptly rifles and iron into the tall grass. Announcers trip over themselves to make excuses for him.
Not really. They were calling him out for the concentration loss and it was casually mentioned by McCord I think that people were yelling in his backswing. Tripping up over themselves?

I like rickie fowler just fine. I think he is a good player. But he has been a disappointment outside of a stretch of a few unconscious holes at the players. His career till now is marked by more near misses/collapses then big moments.

Again I like the guy but I get frustrated that he has been anointed by the TV partners as a guy that they refuse to say anything negative about. It's silly. I'd rather they just call it like it is. I guess I'm just kind of tired of the hype about this guy without the matching results.

With a closing 66 and the collapse of several of the frontrunners, Sean O'Hair finished 2nd to rocket from 108 to 15 in the FedEx Cup rankings.

Pretty impressive comeback for a guy who failed to even make the top 125 for two consecutive seasons not too long ago.

I'm finally headed to TPC Boston on Saturday for the Deutsche Bank. Does anyone have any tips or recommendations on where to go to get a good view? My plan in my head is to follow a group in the morning when it's not as crowded and then camp out somewhere with a good vantage point in the afternoon, but I've never been to a PGA Tour event so I'm not sure if that's feasible.

There are a lot of nice vantage points. I'm not a fan of following one group and since you're going on Saturday it will be the whole field so that will be nice.

Some of my favorite spots are:

#2 tee. Get there early but its fun to see everyone hit driver up close
#16 green. There are bleachers there to watch the par 3 tee shots. Depending on the pin it could make for dramatic viewing.
#13 fairway. This is an underrated spot in my opinion. Its a very difficult tee shot so a lot of times they get sprayed all over so you'll have a chance of a player hitting his approach out of the rough right next to you. its also shaded and secluded so bring a chair in and have a good time.

I heard a rumor that this is the last year for the tournament? Is that true?

I'm sure I'll head up 1 or 2 days.

Apparently it's still just a rumor, but Deutsche Bank and the Tiger Woods Foundation are both moving on, so it sounds like our tour stop could be trouble. The Boston area had a tough time maintaining a tour stop - Pleasant Valley never had the strongest fields or a real big time sponsor and disappeared from the calendar in the late 90's. The Deutsche Bank has been blessed with its playoff spot and thus great fields, but still a difficult date in terms of catching a ton of attention. Labor Day Weekend is certainly not ideal for my ability to attend - I have never made it and once again will miss out this year. I really do want to make it happen and would be extremely disappointed if I missed my last chance - hopefully a new sponsor can be found.

Thanks!

Rory is a mess. Par, bogey, triple to start his day.

I forgot how infuriating and annoying it is to have the Fedex Cup standings explained 800 times and then have the affect of each shot overemphasized on that player's ranking. We get it, there are standings and they are important and they change a lot. Enough already.

Since they moved the tee times up is this on TV anywhere?

Looks like no live TV coverage until 1:30pm on NBC. Pretty unacceptable if you ask me.

NBC wouldn't even be live, would it? Leaders are supposed to finish at like 2. Are they only going to show the last hole?

The golf live extra app is horrible. Keeps freezing and goes to "Coverage will Resume Shortly" and freezes there. I've missed most of the last 20 mins.

The coverage has been streaming all day on NBC Sports / Golfliveextra.com, but it has been incredibly frustrating to follow that way - there seem to be commercial breaks every 5 minutes and then those breaks last forever with "Coverage Will Resume Shortly" on the screen for most of the time, then they come back somewhere in the middle of the action. Almost wish I had waited for the tape delayed broadcast, but I can't help myself, especially when Rory is playing so well.

huh. My stream has been great all day. He hd quality, no lag. There are a lot of commercial breaks but I figured you get those on live tv anyway.

It's been on "Coverage will resume shortly" since Casey chipped on 17. Haven't seen a shot since. Incredibly frustrating.

Stream has been shitty using NBC Sports App on both my iPhone and Roku. Now I seem to have lost the live feed completely and I am getting the Golf Channel TD broadcast.

Edit: finally back to see Casey on 18, but then goes to "Coverage Will Resume Shortly" again interminably with eagle putt coming.

Guess he got himself straightened out. What a round today and nice comeback for Rory. Great to see him winning again, though it is bad news on the Ryder Cup front if he's got the putter dialed in and hot.

Rose shot a 45 on the back today. Woof.

It'll be interesting to see what clubs he's playing when he comes back. Chances that Nike clubs will still be in his bag are around 0%.
I've got good money on he and Rory going PXG. Parsons is exactly the spendthrift nutbag that would throw tons of money at them to make a big splash.

Edit:

I'd put it:

1. PXG
2. Miura
3. Titleist
.
.
.
.
.
.

4. Mizuno
5. Everyone else

I think there's close to a 0% chance he goes to PXG, I have no idea why people think this will happen. Tiger likes to go to the beat of his own drummer and I don't see him going with what's hot and popular right now.

I've seen the Miura rumors out there, but Miura is a family company that even touts on their website that they do not sponsor anybody. Tiger has not been one to turn down money, I don't think he's playing clubs for free.

Haha. Well people think PXG because of exactly what you say in your last sentence. Parsons is a bored, eccentric, billionaire spendthrift trying to sell clubs for $500 a piece with his big players being Zach Johnson and Billy Horschel. I see little dispute he'd offer the most and I don't think PXG is "hot and popular" enough to deter him from taking he check and returning to being a company's alpha dog.

Miura, I'm aware they're a family company but they're also trying to sell super high end clubs in a market where Tiger has shifted most of his sponsorships to.

Of the remaining big ones, TM and Cobra have apparel obligations he can't meet so those are truly 0%. Callaway has a good stable already and I don't see him doing commercials with Phil. Titleist is known for not paying good money because they don't need to and will likely focus their money on retaining Speith, who is close to needing to be renewed but I could see him taking a little less to go back to being aligned with them. He grew up playing Mizuno but how much will they spend? Then you've got Ping, Adams (who couldn't even keep Watson), Bridgestone and ? I don't see any of them coming to the table but who knows.

Who do you think he will end up with? I love to speculate on this stuff.

Titleist won't pay him enough, they are notorious for not paying as much as the other companies. It's absurd how much endorsement deals are, even for the lower end players. A friend of mine made it on tour this year, made a couple of cuts and is fighting for ANY status next year and HE got $125k from Taylormade. Titleist just isn't that dumb - there is zero return on that investment for Taylormade.

And to answer your question PP - I honestly have no f'ing clue what Tiger will do. He's always done something that nobody expects (initially going to Nike, switching from Butch to Haney to Foley to Como, changing swings, etc). This guy just always wants to go against the grain and set himself apart.

Seems like TIger is (or at least should be) at a point in his career where he shouldn't care less about sponsorship money, and actually go out and pick the clubs that might help him play the best.

Of course that makes an assumption that somehow there is a difference for these guys, and one set of clubs is better than the others

Once you get to the level these guys are at, the clubs become important more from a psychological standpoint than a physical one because all the clubs are outstanding. But to the player, do they look right? Do they fell right? Is there confidence holding the club?

All of that is very player specific.

Agree with all of this, but I'm also reminded that Tiger is a guy who - in terms of their equipment - was essentially the "founding endorser" of Nike Golf. And he thrived using their clubs. So I would think he understands that that he can work with the engineers at any of the major companies to create clubs that work with his game.

FWIW, my pro has told me that Mizuno irons are now the best in the game from a "feel" perspective and he thinks they would be a great match for Tiger on the endorsement side. We'll see ...

I would agree that Tiger should care less about the money, but that doesn't jive with his recent announcement he'll play in Turkey. Why play in Turkey if not for the sponsorship/appearance money?

Maybe just get some work in without all the fuss that would accompany Tiger in the United States?

I was thinking that a bit at first, also gives him a chance against what I am guessing is a pretty substandard field.

Although, honestly I suspect Tiger appearing in Turkey is HUGE there. My guess is he is likely to be by far the biggest story of the week, and everyone there is going to be all Tiger all the time.

If anything he is likely to be a much bigger story in Turkey than he will be at Napa
