I'm disappointed that Furyk's Ryder Cup stench will be anywhere near the team, in any capacity. I at least was holding out hope that he wouldn't be able to qualify and would be reduced to (at worst) assistant capacity as he was this year. Ugh.

Furyk seems extraordinarily well liked by the other players. Tiger loves him. This in all likelihood means Furyk won't actually be playing on the team, which is a win. He's already got DL III on board as vice captain, and Phil will almost definitely still be on the team as a playing captain in all but title. I'm of the camp that the Ryder Cup captain can only fuck things up (Sutton, Watson) versus helping all that much. If Furyk is well liked and now has experience with being a vice captain on this most recent team, I'm all for it. I see nothing bad about this, already can't wait.

Then, Stricker in Wisconsin in 2020. Then Phil can have it for a decade or so. Let's not think too hard here.

I love it because even though his record isn't stellar he is very well liked by his peers and has the most experience in the RC. He knows what worked and what didn't from a team perspective. As stated, he'll have DL3 there on his side.
