Same injury as McQuaid. Hard to pin point exactly how long Mcquaid was truly out because they strung it out as long as they could, but their original time frame for him was 8 weeks.

Feel bad for Brandon. Second year in a row he’s suffered an injury on the eve of the playoffs.

Terrible news. Carlo was playing really well recently.

Goddam. Carlo, at Cassidy’s urging, had been playing more aggressively and using the speed he has. The past few weeks were his best of the season.

Plus I feel sorry for the kid.

God damn it, this sucks. Fell awful for Carlo, but he's going to get another shot at the playoffs soon because this team is set up really well for the future.

Certainly doesn't make this suck any less, though.

Boston Sports Journal says broken fibula as well. Maybe if they make the Cup Finals he could return. Their ortho says if no surgery could return in 2-6 weeks but surgery he’s back in 4-6 months.
The second I saw the replay I thought it was a broken tibia. That it's only the fibula is much better news. The toe getting stuck in the ice has a Gordon Hayward vibe to it. I would assume the skate and laces going a bit up the leg gave some protection to the tibia itself.

Either way, it could have been worse, but dudes probably done for the season. Too bad for the kid and the team.

Why would they risk that? He’s done.
Because it's the Stanley Cup Final. If they're in it and he's healthy he's going to play if he's better than the alternatives. A lot of things have to happen to even be in a position to worry about this. I'm operating on the assumption that we'll see him in training camp but if by chance all the above conditions are true, he'll play.

Can you be sure a young guy who has been on the shelf for a month and a half will be better than a guy who has been playing throughout? The Cup Finals aren’t a time to be shaking off rust.

I agree with Drew, unless an injury occurs that forces the Bruins to try bringing Carlo back into service, he’s done

No you can't be sure of that. We don't know what the injuries will be at that point. That's one of the conditions I outlined. If it's a rusty Carlo over an NHL defenseman who's been playing, then it's a no brainer, Carlo sits. If it's a rusty Carlo over AHL filler like Tommy Cross or a kid like Zboril, Lauzon, or Johanssen that have never played in the NHL, you go with Carlo.

Ok, we’re actually in agreement... I read “better than the alternatives” as possibly meaning someone like Holden, which there’s no way they take the risk.

Yes we are. All I was trying to get across is that they shouldn't rule anyone out unless they absolutely have to because if there is a shot that Carlo could come back, negating the need to play AHL filler in a playoff game, that could be the difference between winning and losing. That's why Sweeney built up as much depth as he did.

I wasn't ruling anyone out and obviously circumstances always dictate what happens, but it seems that a kid having 5-6 weeks off after injury to his foot, then getting out there in the Finals would be a gutsy, gutsy call.

In all honestly, I hope it's a decision they have to make.

Colby Cave is up on emergency recall.

Looks like Wingels got dinged yesterday, he didn’t take a shift in the 3rd.

In the simulacrum
A win is not a guarantee. They need one more point or one more tie/loss by TB even if they win tonight:

From NHL.com
Tie-Breaking Procedure

If two or more clubs are tied in points during the regular season, the standing of the clubs is determined in the following order: The fewer number of games played (i.e., superior points percentage). The greater number of games won, excluding games won in the Shootout. This figure is reflected in the ROW column. The greater number of points earned in games between the tied clubs.

Bold is the issue. Even with a win tonight, the Bs will only be one up in ROW. So they could, theoretically, end up tied in points, behind in ROW and left shit out of luck for the head-to-head.

That's good because if they win tonight that's a guarantee to play NJ and a trip to the second round.
New Jersey could also pass Philly. Which would by no means be an easy series but still a better scenario than having to play against Toronto and deal with all the BS that comes along with that.

Am I the only one worried about Toronto upsetting an injured/slumping TB and dealing with the bullshit a round later?

Is it a little weird they haven't announced Carlo is done? I feel if he blew an ACL or shattered a bone and was clearly done they would announce it. If he had a chance to play, they would just announce it as an LBI.

Am I grasping at straws? I feel like I'm grasping at straws.

I don’t think its as harsh or obvious as a shattered bone, since right after the injury they said they were waiting for the swelling to go down for a more definitive look. Could still be a fracture or break of some kind though.

They’ve also been Belichickian in their approach to announcing injuries this season so I’m not TOO surprised. I mean, they still never came out and said what’s wrong with Rick Nash. The concussion talk has been all conjecture.

Rick skated, Riley did not. Wingels has a hand injury not deemed to be long term. Carlo’s injury significant.

Terming it "significant" has me concerned that it is more than just a broken leg/season ending.
Hope there isn't any impact whatsoever to his future prospects, he was really coming on the last few weeks.

You don't consider a break in one of the two support structures of the human body to be significant?

Same thing theoretically happened to Ryan Suter on Saturday and it has already been confirmed he needs surgery and will miss the rest of the season.
My concern is the broken bone isn't the extent of the injury, otherwise why not announce it as such. Possible there is also ligament damage in there, no?

I think this injury occurred in the same corner he took the Ovechkin hit last year in game 82.

Keep him out of that corner around the end of March/beginning of April.
