Don't think Daz gets the boot this year, even if your scenario plays out. He is still owed $7M after this year and it will cost them $2-2.5M to replace him plus another $1-1.5M in assistant coaches, depending on the length and buy out provisions for those coaches; a lot of dead money on the books for another rebuild job. And the rebuild will take 3 years or so. Nobody wants that. Money is running the show there as in most D1 programs. I think he is here thru the end of next year. Jarmond will look at the next 2 years and see where the program is headed now that it is 100% Addazio's. He needs to have winning seasons and I would suggest 16 wins, or thereabouts, collectively (including bowl wins) is what Jarmond may have in mind to keep him.

A decision will have to be made on Daz one way or the other at the end of next season. He can't go out on the recruiting trail in 2019 with less than 3 years on his contract. It is not good for the program to have a perceived lame duck or "hot seat" coach at that point. He will either be let go then or extended. He gets to 16 wins, he gets the extension, anything less, he's out, IMHO.

My understanding is he could lose his job after this year. He's not safe, though he's not an automatic fire if he misses a bowl.

If they play in a bowl game he stays.

They're getting worked over at home by the second worst Power 5 team. I can't imagine anything worse this year...unless they lose to UConn at Fenway.

I can't believe just how bad this program is. Year 5 and he has not developed a QB and his offensive line is still poor with no depth.

I keep saying Daz has a 2 year audition and he in fact may. But if they don't mind eating his salary I make the change next week after ND. They get their ass kicked and cut him loose, let Jim Reid run the team for the balance of the season and then go out and get Mike Vrabel. Back to a 3-5 year rebuild. Unbelievable.

I can believe it. Has been obvious for several years how awful of a coach Daz is. With Jarmond on board, I'm confident this moron will be cut loose after this season.

Nah, rock bottom is when they lose to CMU in 3 weeks, assuming they keep him on through there. I'd say he stays through the VT game at least, unfortunately.

I like Jarmond and think he'll make a change before season is through though. I liked that he showed up at both games (FH and MSocc) yesterday at the Newton campus if only for a few moments. He seems more hands on than the predecessors, although that many not be a good thing for some of the sports (both ice hockeys, both soccers, FH)

Campus was fairly empty until around 11:45 or so, many tailgate spots were either empty or had late arrivals, and then of course Shea doesn't exist any more. Perfect weather too. Good atmosphere from 12-12:45 or so, better than the team deserves in some ways. The Fenway Sports Group/IMG tent was almost completely empty though, more admins than guests. Maybe Moose showed up late . . .

    Students and alumni deserve better

I bet BC o/u winning 4 games this season and that sure looks shakey at this point.

Brown clearly didn't have it in the first half. Not starting Wade in the 2nd was a big mistake. Not sure it would have mattered but at least would have given them a chance.

might be the first game in many years I missed. Glad I did.

They have to be willing to walk away this year, the man has made the program unwatchable over the last 5 years

The worst was taking Brown out after the pick. He went into the huddle and got taken out and his body basically collapsed. Wade didn't really do much and the offense is absurdly transparent. Just let this season end. Cops were generally nice outside of talking behind my back and chirping is for recycling when kicking us out of the mods.

Sat next to a senior DL's dad. Didn't get too much insight but he did not seem to be a Daz fan.

    Thanks. Was reason given?

Edit: Miami FSU is posponed, and was the designated ABC game so Clemson Louisville takes the national spotlight (probably should have had it originally regardless) at 8PM with Herbie and Fowler

Therefore, SBCC @ BC takes over Clemson-UL's "old" spot.

Moose was thankfully playing in the Cape Cod Senior Softball Classic and had games at 3 and 5 on Saturday so I missed most of the shit show. I saw most of the 2nd qtr on my phome and almost thru it thru the wall after the pick 6.. I did however text instructions to the boyos up in QQ to shout a You Suck Dazz in my place

Sat is going to be a shit show of bibilical proportions, Asshole needs to be competive while Cousin Brian needs to run the fucking score up to at least look relevant

I've also heard the Bowl and Win to keep the job, and look at the bright side, I don't think Donaghue and I know Spaz's money is now off the books

Anyone going to the Meet/Greet with martin Jarmond on Thursday night. I am in Boston and may attend the event. Want to ask him about scheduling and how they do that with alumni/recruiting in mind. I figure everyone will ask about tailgating. Since I only get to one home game on average per year I will leave that questioning to all of you that it really affects. I'm sure this meeting will have no revelations in it but it would be interesting if people asked him some fairly pointed questions. I have a feeling not many will.

If any of you go let me know in a PM here and I will try to introduce myself either before or after the event.

Article from Shank in yesterday's Globe. He may be a pain in the ass, but I think he was spot on with this take of the program.....begs the question, since Boston is a pro town and the NFL and MLB teams consistently compete for titles and the winter sports at least are competitive (the Celts seem to be ramping up a bit more than the Bruins), will BC ever get it's mojo back? And more to the point, why are they doing this? Is it just for the $25M per year from the ACC? What happens when they plateau as the forever .500s ( or worse maintain their position as the forever 1-8 in P5 play) and the first handful of wrongful death claims roll in from the survivors of CTE victims in 10+ years? Makes you wonder a bit.

Depends what you define as "mojo." If you're asking whether BC will ever be the "talk of the town" I think the answer is no - as CHB points out, even when BC was #2 in the country they were playing second fiddle to the Red Sox (I specifically remember staying in my dorm room to watch Game 2 of the World Series when all my non-Boston friends were out celebrating the epic comeback against VTech in the Mods). But was BC ever the "talk of the town" in this way? If so, it hasn't been for a very, very long time.

But if you're asking whether BC can be a successful football/basketball program again? I think there the answer is definitely yes as I don't see any reason they can't be if they get competent coaching in the door. We have had very successful programs in the not-too-distant past under essentially the exact same constraints (lack of casual fans, smaller school, more stringent academic requirements).

But doing so will require focus and willpower. My one worry is that the administration will decide that sports just isn't worth it as a priority and will stop devoting resources to it, which will create a death spiral where the donor base will dry up as new students stop feeling any connection to the sports programs. I think this would be terrible decision even from a non-sports perspective as I know from personal experience that the lure of a competitive D-I sports program at a fairly well-regarded academic institution made the difference for a lot of people deciding whether to go to BC or to schools with similar academics but no or lesser sports teams.

Basically, while it's true that Boston is not a college sports town and BC will never be attracting a ton of casual fans, none of that means that they can't field highly successful (or, at least, competitive) football and basketball teams if the administration still cares about doing so.

They were the talk of the town when #22 played. They also were top of the fold when they beat ND in '93 and knocked them out of the national title game.....So it has been 25 years since they were really at the top of the sports heap in Boston. This was all pre Parcells/Belichek/Brady Patriots, the Idiots at Fenway, the KG, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen Celts and the 2011 Stanley Cup. It is a debate we have had before on this thread but it kind of stunned me that there is no buzz for this game anymore. I live in SoCal (Manhattan Beach to be precise) so I don't know what the feeling is in Boston about "big" match ups like ND, USC, etc. when they come to town. I just happen to be in Boston this week for meetings at my company's home office in Andover ( unfortunately leaving tomorrow night as there is a family commitment this weekend so I won't be at Alumni) and I was asking about the game....silence. Then I see Shank's article. Kind of sad that the program has become this irrelevant. I knew it was having a few "issues" but I didn't realize there is so much apathy that a game against ND on a Saturday afternoon struggles to sell out and there are tix available for FSU as well. As a noted politician would tweet....Sad!

It's also pretty unlucky (from a BC-centric perspective) that right as the Matty Ice hype was going on we had the Red Sox going to the WS, Spygate mania with the most fun Pats team ever, and, oh yeah, the beginning of the Big 3 era in the Garden.

I got a marketing email from ND Athletics this morning letting me know tickets were still available. It looks like there is availability in the top rows of XX, which based on 2012 would be part of ND's allotment, so both sets of fans are skipping this one. I think one of the issues was pricing. I paid about the same for my USC at ND ticket and season tickets are being sold for only $199 per seat in my section. Even in this market a $100 get-in price is hard to justify.

I believe that was part of the 10 year plan that ended last year or this year. And we can all agree that was a resounding success! Though it does suck that the Mods no longer exist.

Forgive me for being skeptical when the university is still be run by a guy that hates sports.

Went to the meet/greet with the AD. Was it worth $25? No. Was it interesting? Yes. Some tidbits.

He said the tailgating issue will take a while. Has been a problem for years and it will take some time for it to be resolved. Talked about a shuttle from Needham (didn't they always have that?) and how he needs to get everyone involved in this. Honestly didn't say much on that front.

Scheduling: he half joked about NIU and Howard. Stated he will never schedule a road game at NIU (and presumably a MAC school) again. He said he is looking for opponents BC can be competitive with, that will attract fans and that when they play on the road, they have a shot to win. He specifically mentioned California and B1G programs as places he would look. He said it has to aid recruiting and near alumni bases. He questioned Kansas and was proud of his Michigan State "get". Look for him to maybe get out of the Kansas game and try to get another B1G or Cali school on the schedule.

Said if the IPF was not under construction he would not have taken the job.

Praised Leahy and said he was much more suppprtive of athletics than is reported ( not surprised as Leahy hired him and is his boss).

Said BC is a development school and cannot compete with places like tOSU as to coaches salaries and facilities but it certainly can be competitive with similar programs. (Ex Northwestern, Duke, Vandy, etc.).

Overall he seems sincere and as I expected he wasn't really challenged. He did say that football drives the bus and that it is imperative that the program be competitive and be a "tough out" on every opponent's schedule.

That pretty much covers the highlights. Someone asked him about Shank's article. He said it didn't help and was "unnecessary".

One last note. He asked ESPN for some airtime to talk about things going on at BC. ESPN declined the offer.

Shit Bernie, I was hoping to catch you before the game tomorrow.. good recap I knew nothing about the meeting, not that I wouldve gone anyway, cuts into Thurs night golf..

I hate to admit it but CHB was spot on with the article, and I think that a bigger unaddressed problem is the nerdafication of the BC student body. Games are not as big a thing as it was when I was in school in the dark ages, you know Pre-22, I mean its Fucking ND and there are tickets available on Friday?? WTF with the Sox and Pats BOTH on the road????

I'll add more later its time for Friday afternoon golf, lol

I don't think there's a Needham shuttle anymore, you might want to verify that. When it existed, it was open to anyone. Now there's just the Brighton shuttle from the New Balance parking garage, or the Newton campus shuttle for people who have parking passes there.

Edit: Just checked the website, there is a Needham shuttle, you're all set. It was discontinued last year, but it's back.

Nerdification. Sorry there are plenty of schools with nerdier student bodies who do a whole lot better job of supporting the sports team.

Almost kickoff time. I guess this shows the state of BC sports now, I plan to watch the first half, and the second half I will probably focus more on watching Rob's quest for a card on the web.com tour

The team played a good half. The crowd was in it. The team was feeling good about itself.

That decision completely changes the mood of the crowd, and no doubt the players on the field. They played their heart off in the first half and are running off the field to a cascade of boos, and yes it is intended for the coach, but it has to hurt the players
