Sweeney says we’ll carry 23 players on Opening Night. He didn’t rule out Krug being available. Krug has been skating the past few days.

What a waste of a #1 pick. I know someone said that earlier, but he never did well when given the chance, yet performed well enough to stay around. I hope (for his career) that Vegas is a newer start and that playing behind an inferior D doesn't completely ruin him.

Who knows who else was on the draft board at the time, but the guys picked after Subban haven't lighted the world on fire. But still, the pick was dumb at the time and dumb now. Goalies are a total crapshoot. If you're going to use a first round pick on a goalie, he better be a really solid lock. I don't think Subban was that, but I could be misremembering.

You know who WAS a really solid lock? Tuukka Rask. Who the Bruins already had.

I was arguing for Pearson at the time. He was the OHL leading scorer. I know he was 19 but that's still worth taking a shot on in a weak draft. He hasn't exactly lit up offensively but he's a guy that could've been plugged into a bottom 6 role in 2014, making a veteran like Paille or Campbell expendable.

The only G taken in the first round of the past 10 drafts that has amounted to anything is Vasilevskiy.

The lesson learned is to not take a G in the first round. I wouldn’t take one before the 4th.

The reason Subban was a 1st round pick is his off the charts athletic ability. His upside was huge but along with that comes a lot of risk when you're picking late in the 1st round. Especially with a goalie. This gamble didn't pay off, that's how it goes when picking players at that spot. Pastrnak was the opposite.

I'd have a much bigger problem if this was a top 10 pick, but late in the 1st round I think teams should be swinging for the fences when the opportunity is available, and they're gonna miss a lot

Roster is finalized. O’Gara to Providence, Johansson on non-roster IR; Czarnik and Krug to IR. Kuraly makes it. I don’t think it was ever announced, but Agostino must’ve been sent to Providence at some point.

63-37-10
74-46-88
39-51-42
59-20-55
72, 52

33-25
48-54
86-73
14

40
35

Krug was placed on IR on 9/21 so I believe he can be activated whenever. They left the door open for Thursday, but it seems unlikely.

All right. Let’s drop the puck.

It seems inevitable that a team with such young players in prominent roles is going to go through some rough patches. But this team has the potential to be a heck of a lot of fun to watch.

The two picks are in no way comparable. Subban was the longest of long shots, and his eventual outcome was entriely predictable.

Absolutely agree. I wouldn't be surprised to see them struggle a lot early, but I'm hopeful they will be able to find their way back into the playoffs for the second year and get the young guys some experience, because this feels like a team that is set up to take a leap forward in the next couple years (maybe... hopefully?... this year).

As far as Subban, my understanding is he has to stay on the Knights' roster the whole season. Is it like the rule 5 draft in baseball where if they decide he isn't working they have to send him back to the Bruins, or are they just stuck with him on their active roster (barring injury, of course)?

Subban has to stay with VGK for 30-days. If they want to assign him to the AHL before the p 30 days are up, VGK would have to offer Subban back to the Bruins. After 30 days, Subban would have to go back on waivers before being assigned to their AHL team.

Ah, got it. Probably no chance of him making it back then. That sucks, sounds like a great kid to be around and that they were hoping he'd show some solid improvement this year..... hope he can make the most of his chance.
