Put Trubisky aside. If you can move from 12 to 6, with the added cost of a 2nd and 5th, you might do it on general principle. That is far from an extortionate price, especially from a team perceived as QB hunting. I'm not saying it's the right thing to do; I'm saying that's a good exchange at the window. I'll be surprised if the trade materializes and the cost is that low.

EDIT. And good camouflage if Watson is the target -- though they probably shouldn't have hyped their interest in QB as relentlessly as they did through Ms. Cabot.

By the value chart it us giving up about 1,800 points for 1,600 points. Obviously QB is the most important position so if it worked out that wouldn't matter. But I would argue that for a team like the Browns having more cracks at drafting players - especially when you still get to pick at 12 and 33 - is the more valuable route.

Edit: and to your point on Watson, I would rather roll the dice on Watson at 12 and still pick at 33 than draft Trubisky at 6 and give up 33, but that is probably colored by my skepticism of Trubisky

Well, this is what the Eagles paid almost exactly one year ago to move from #8 to #2 to get Wentz:

The Eagles will give up their first-round pick (eighth overall), their third (77th) and fourth (100th), along with their 2017 first-rounder and their 2018 second-rounder. They will get the Browns’ fourth-rounder in 2017 as well as the second pick.
(emphasis added).

Markets are markets. And Wentz is one hell of a lot closer to Trubisky and Watson than any of them are, for example, to RGIII (or the perception of RGIII).

But Wentz proved the identity does not much matter -- esp if you are ISO a QB, this is the price.

King's misinformed. If Cleveland can pull it off, it ought to do it right now, then flip the #6 Thursday night to somebody else.

I would argue that the jump from 8 to 2 is far more significant than 12 to 6. If Cleveland were to deal 33 and 12 for 6, and then trade 6, what would they look to receive back? You think they can do better than 12 and 33?

Yep. Especially if there is a QB on the board somebody wants. I'd do the deal now.

We'll know in 2 nights -- if there are any deals.

If for no other reason than not being positioned to draft another QB.
Eh Mahomes Watson etc. would be there at 12 and/ or 33. Wouldn't prevent them but at least in taking a QB risk they could add a "safer" pick to go with it.

Or pull a Washington and just draft 2 QBs

I meant the Jets.

It would be interesting if Cleveland was after Watson all along, knew that everyone would expect them to draft a QB, feigned interest in Trubisky, falsely signaled trading up, and just took Watson at 12.

Yeah. I liked this:

Belichick then told a story about how the entire NFL universe believed that the Patriots would select Michigan wide receiver David Terrell with the sixth overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft. Belichick had vowed not mention to anyone, even Joel, with whom he was exceptionally close and unusually trusting in, the true apple of his eye: Georgia defensive tackle Richard Seymour. Belichick explained to his Patriots inner circle that Seymour’s name was not to be uttered to anyone outside of the building prior to the draft.

On Draft Day that year, Belichick picked up the phone for what had become a tradition, he and Buchsbaum chatting about the picks to unfold later that day. After some chitchat between them, Buchsbaum — who never was much for small talk, always wanting to get or deliver to the information that mattered most to his livelihood — told Belichick, “Don’t wuh-rry … Seymoah is gonna be there fuh you.”

Belichick was gobsmacked. That’s when he knew Buchsbaum was the best-sourced person he talked to not part of any NFL team.

Lombardi tweeted that browns are shopping 12, looking to trade down. He interpreted that as meaning they knew who they were taking 1. I would surmise that it means they are taking a QB, right?

Speculation is trending that way.

Schefter just on and indicated Browns are not likely to trade up from 12. More likely to trade down. "Analytics".

That would suggest QB is going 1/1. As Jeremiah suggests, that would scramble the round with Garrett then available at 2. 49ers could take him or trade out.

More from Schefter -- 2 QBs in top 12, Trubisky and Watson. 2 backs in top 10, Fournette and McCaffrey.

Do we know if the 49ers have any interest in JG? If the Browns somehow fuck this up and take Trubisky, I would be curious if we the Pats would even try picking up the phone...

Is there any way BB can trade away the rest of our draft picks this year except that lone 4th rounder?

And this is why the Browns are the Browns. That's a horrible pick at #1, made purely out of desperation.

Unless the Browns are going to take Garrett at 1/1 and punt on a quarterback in this draft. They will suck again this year and then be in position to draft a QB (Darnold?) in 2018.

The Browns saying they have known for 2 weeks may be accurate. That information I have about the team telling a certain player they were trading up to 5 to select him, was in a conversation he had with the Browns 2 weeks ago. So those things are consistent if any of it is true. I guess we'll see tonight. I know there is a bunch of misinformation put out there by teams to get people off their trail. I would hope they wouldn't use players for that process, but I honestly don't know. Even though the Pats don't have a pick tonight, I'm jacked.

Or TB12 to the 49ers for 1-2 and a 2018 first as well. Brady gets to go home to be near mom, Jimmy G leads the way to another half-dozen Lombardis, and BB proves he was the man all along.

Yeah, I think I'm ready for this to all be over...
