Vegas has a team, so now we're on to the entry draft tomorrow and Saturday in Chicago.

B's have picks 18, 53 (EDM), 111, 173, 195, 204 (FLA)

B's natural 2nd went to NJ for Stempniak. 3rd to Philly for Shithead. 5th to CAR for Liles. EDM's 2nd is Chiarelli compensation.

Here's McKenzie's rankings:

I've seen a few mocks that have the Bruins taking Shane Bowers, so it's interesting to see McKenzie have him ranked in the thirties. Ryan Poehling of St. Cloud St. is another guys I've seen linked to them.

I would love to see them find a way to nab Suzuki, but don't see how he falls and I don't think they have the assets to trade up.

Edit - Also saw Robert Thomas on the bleacher report mock. Most seem to think the Bs will go center.

Sweeney says if they keep 18, they're more likely to trade down then up. Looking for D help, but comfortable with current group.

A little background on Ryan Poehling.

https://www.nhl.com/news/2017-nhl-draft-family-affair-for-ryan-poehling/c-284015448

Apparently he attended summer school by choice last year so he could graduate early and play at St. Cloud State with his two older brothers.

While that story was published in November, here's how one scout perceives Poehling's style of play:

"I think he has great range," David Gregory of Central Scouting said. "He's got a nice long strong stride. Uses good puck protection, long reach. He can be effective in traffic, out of traffic. I like his vision and where he creates. Really saw him get better from the camp to pick the Hlinka team right through the Hlinka tournament; you can see growth. When he plays with better people he gets better. Really nice upside with this player."
Part of that upside is Poehling's maturity, which was exemplified in his decision to sacrifice his summer for the betterment of his hockey..."

This doesn’t look like it’s shaping up to be a strong draft year – maybe similar in talent to 2013 and better than the 2012 Draft? But we won’t know that for a while. Admittedly, I don’t know much about this year’s draft class, except the hype I’ve heard around Patrick and Hischier.

There aren’t a lot of defensemen ranked above #18, so maybe if some teams reach for defense, we’ll get a higher ranked forward become available. I’ll hope for Suzuki, but would be willing to take a flyer on Klim Kostin because of the high ceiling/risk and, well, I like the name.

I don't think a Russian has ever succeeded or stuck in Boston. While Kostin has intriguing talent, I don't see him being a Bruins pick. I'd be a little surprised if they go for a defenseman, but I would probably rank my positional preference as center/defense/wing.

If I'm Sweeney I take best player available.

I'd say Samsonav was somewhat successful but I agree - in general Russians haven't succeeded with the Bruins for the most part.

Not to dash hopes, but here is the awesome list of draftees who were selected with pick #18 from 2007 to 2014:
Ian Cole
Chet Pickard
Louis Leblanc
Austin Watson
Mark McNeill
Teuvo Teravainen
Mirco Mueller
Alex Tuch

Chabot was selected at #18 in 2015, so that may be a good sign.

In my 5 minutes of reading up on prospects, I've decided I want Kristian Vesalainen if they keep 18.

Only guy I don't want there is the BU goalie, Oettinger.

What happened to Liljegren? Wasn't he the top rated defenseman at the beginning of the year? Was he hurt all year?

Appreciate the updates Salem. Stuck at a rehearsal for a sister in law and ready to blow my brains out.
No problem. I have a rare night with nothing to do except drink beer and watch baseball & the draft so I figured I'd update this for everyone with shit to do. Open bar at least?

5 picks away. Nobody's gone off the board yet, top 13 guys on McKenzie's list all taken.

Edit: TB with a slight reach, Cal Foote
