Cannot be more excited anticipating Cooks & Brady on the field together: http://www.espn.com/blog/new-england-patriots/post/_/id/4803099/brandin-cooks-one-word-to-describe-working-with-tom-brady-amazing
New England Patriots wide receiver Brandin Cooks flashed a wide smile when the topic of conversation shifted to quarterback Tom Brady on Tuesday.

“Amazing,” Cooks said, when asked his first impressions of working with him.

“His attention to detail and how focused he is. It’s something that I look at him and try to [strive] for be just like that. Obviously, the game on TV, he’s amazing. But to see him now, in person and his study habits, is awesome.”

Speaking of the upcoming training camp, NESN has a rough list of dates: http://nesn.com/2017/02/five-weeks-behind-patriots-2017-offseason-schedule-from-combine-to-camp/
  • May 5 to May 8 or May 12 to May 15: Rookie minicamp
  • Mid-May to mid-June (dates TBA): Organized team activities
  • June (dates TBA): Mandatory minicamp
  • July 15: Franchise tag deadline
  • Mid-July (dates TBA): Training camp begins
Based on last year's pre-season schedule, we can also expect:
  • Around August 1st: Patriots Hall of Fame ceremony
  • 2nd Week of August: PS Game 1 vs Jaguars
  • 3rd Week of August: Joint practice session + PS Game 2 at Texans
  • 4th Week of August: PS Game 3 at Lions
  • 1st Week of September: PS Game 4 vs Giants
Of course, the regular season starts September 8th vs Chiefs.

Cannot be more excited anticipating Cooks & Brady on the field together:
I was just thinking the same thing. It looks like he's already adopted Patriots-speak...

"If he peeked at the schedule to see when he’d return to New Orleans (Week 2):"

“A little bit. It’s exciting. But it’s going to be another game. I’m not going to treat it any differently. It’s Week 2, so I’ll be focused on Week 1. Once Week 2 comes, that’s what I’ll be focused on. It’s not like I put an ‘X’ on the calendar for that game. I just want to go in and do my job and handle business, and let the rest take care of itself.”

Former Patriots OT @SebVollmer tells @SiriusXMNFL that he has lost about 75 pounds. He confirms he does not plan to play again in NFL.
Yup. Take a look at these pictures:

http://www.businessinsider.com/nfl-players-lost-weight-2015-9/#te-newton-no-61-a-320-pound-offensive-lineman-played-most-of-his-14-year-career-with-the-cowboys-before-retiring-in-1999-and-growing-to-nearly-400-pounds-in-retirement-11

I was impressed by Jeff Saturday. Piker by comparison to Brad Culpepper.

And now marathon runner Alan Faneca is unbelievable.

I'm not starting a thread for this, and I can't get the video at work, but apparently Gisele said in an interview that Brady had a concussion(s) last season.
Being in the business she's in she should be a bit more media savy, JUST when it looked like the Pats were going into a season without major drama(short of Madden) a super model of all people starts another chaotic wave.

Such is life in New England sports...

The absolute last thing the NFL wants is a huge national discussion about concussions.

Unfortunately its wont be out of the system.

Not sure Id take Giselle's second language medical diagnosis of "concussion" particularly literally.

Tom came home after the game and said, "not tonight, I have a headache," one too many times.

This probably doesn't belong in the news and transaction thread, since he's just working out for the Pats.
@fieldyates
Source: former Browns WR Andrew Hawkins, who recently got his master's degree from Columbia, worked out for the Patriots today.

Hawkins apparently wants to be a General Manager someday, so I would not be surprised if he lobbied the Pats for a workout in order to have the experience of working out for the Pats.

Belichick had the whole team, including Brady, practice falling on fumbles since it was 50 degrees and raining. Trying to work on recovering the football in lousy conditions. In May.

The Patriots seem to really like Harvey Langi.

Here's an article from a BYU fan site just before the draft on why he's a perfect fit:

http://lawlessrepublic.com/2017/04/25/byu-football-new-england-patriots-harvey-langi/

There’s a chance that all the hype pushes Langi up too high for the Patriots’ liking. After all, New England makes a living from mid-round selections. But if Langi is on the board in the fourth round, I would expect the Patriots to pounce.

$115K sounds like a lot ... but LaAdrian Waddle actually has more dead money ($125 K). KeShawn Martin, Geneo Grissom, Tre' Jackson, and Josh Kline have already been cut; each has more than double that hit against the 2017 cap.

So I don't doubt that they like him, but we shouldn't overreact when we do our roster projections.

In a year where they only made four draft picks, it makes a lot of sense to spend a little extra dough to secure a guy they probably had like a fourth-round grade on (that's just a guess).

Yup, that makes total sense. Get the kid into camp and give him a long look. But if they were in love with him to the extent that he was a virtual roster lock, they probably would have just drafted him, particularly with the 6th rounder.

Thanks for posting that. It really is amazing at how much I am interested in every little snippet about this team and this upcoming season. I feel like 12-year-old-me scouring the box scores every morning on the Red Sox in the Globe. I can't wait for this season to start.
I couldn't agree more. I am like a crack addict for the Patriots -- offseason, pre-season, games, press conferences, all of it. More, give me more!

Bill Belichick is a hell of a drug.
If I still lived in Mass, I would probably be at training camp and practices (I still have my season tickets). I just want to see and smell this team, in any manner or format. I used to be incredulous at the concept of going to a football practice in July or whatever -- seeing people run once the gates open to get good seats. Now, I think I would potentially be one of them. This team just does everything so logically and so well, I love them.

I think the reason everyone feels that way is that we're literally watching the greatest dynasty of all time at work. Right here, right now, happening right before our eyes as it has been for almost two decades.

It's no longer the Steelers, or the Packers, or the 49ers. It's the Bill Belichick-coached-motherfucking-New-England-Patriots. We all know it and the whole country knows it. They could never win another Super Bowl again and the last 17 years would still go down as the greatest stretch of dominance in NFL history. Every...single...year they've been a Super Bowl contender.

Belichick > Lombardi. It's no longer debatable. Brady > Montana. It's no longer debatable. At this point, the Patriots can only be compared to themselves.

JG on Schefter's podcast: http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/football/patriots/ryan-hannable/2017/02/21/jimmy-garoppolos-words-tuesday-end-any-thou

“That is a good question,” Garoppolo said. “Between now and then there are so many different thing that can happen, that might not happen. It’s tough to say. We all play the game. We all want to be out there on the field and get an opportunity to play. I guess we will cross that bridge when we get there is probably the best way to put it. We’re competitors at the end of the day. We want to be out there, I want to be out there competing and playing with my teammates.”

Along the same lines, Garoppolo admitted he gets impatient at times backing up Brady.

“There’s times,” Garoppolo said. “Obviously the kickoff happens and you are ready to roll. The juices get flowing again. You get the adrenaline, the butterflies. It’s football, you have to love the atmosphere.”

While he didn't give Schefter a specific answer, Garoppolo indicated what many believed to be true: He wants to play and not sit on the bench. Being Brady's backup was great for the first few years of his career as he learned the game, but now he wants the chance to get on the field and lead an offense.

For the first time (seemingly) ever, the Patriots apparently drafted a guy that's been smart enough to sit back and really learn from Brady.

It must kill Brady a little bit to have developed incredible work ethic - work ethic better than the guy that he had to overcome (Bledsoe) - and watch a guy get drafted, sit back, and have the opportunity to learn everything it takes to be great from the greatest, and entirely self-made, quarterback ever.

No one helped Brady the way Brady, by simply sharing a field with Garoppolo, has helped Garoppolo. Brady worked from the ground-up. Garoppolo, by way of having access to Brady, already had the foundation in place. Lucky guy...but a smart one, too, to soak it all in.

I should add that the first time I realized Garoppolo may be legit was early in the AZ game when I saw him making audibles and breaking down the defense before he'd even thrown a TD pass. It was work ethic and study habits paying off in front of the world. Pretty cool to see that from a young QB in his first start. He'd actually been paying attention.

Dion Lewis feeling the "best in a long time" and showing 2015 level quickness and burst. That is wonderful to hear.

"Lewis was shifty and seamless as he darted through bag drills under the watchful eyes and booming voice of running backs coach Ivan Fears. He was sudden and smooth during pass routes as offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels offered encouragement and teaching points."

If all these little renegotiations led to Butler signing long-term - different situation, different level of contract, I know - that would make this off-season beyond awesome. Make it so, BB. Please please please.
