Two opening night games:Take it with salt but per a colleague Atlanta's MLS team is targeting NFL Week 1 to debut in the new stadium because they believe the Falcons are playing on the road in the Thursday nighter.
Don't discount the pressure the league feels to get off to a big start after last year's ratings declines.
Goodell said he plans to be at the kickoff game.FWIW, Volin has reported, and PFT is channeling, that Pats kick off the season against the Chiefs and that Falcons likely open their new stadium on SNF. So Goodell and Blank would avoid Foxborough opening night. Makes sense to me.

We shall see ...Goodell said he plans to be at the kickoff game.
Right, but why would the Falcons on Sunday night give him an excuse? We shall see ...

TravelRight, but why would the Falcons on Sunday night give him an excuse?
I laughed.Ideally, he'll attend both. Come to Foxboro, then hop on a United flight.
United is sorely in need of a bye week. It just gets worse and worse ...I laughed.
It would be hilarious if Goodell missed another Foxboro visit to go to Atlanta for like the 87th time in the last 12 months.FWIW, Volin has reported, and PFT is channeling, that Pats kick off the season against the Chiefs and that Falcons likely open their new stadium on SNF. This makes zero sense to me, unless it's just an attempt to charge the teams more moneyUnited is sorely in need of a bye week. It just gets worse and worse ...
And maybe as many as 20 teams getting squeezed. This will be adorable if it plays out --

not badMy futile stab at putting together a Pats schedule. Fairly confident that they're playing KC on opening night and prime time games with Pittsburgh, Oakland in Mexico City, and I think they'll pull the LA market in for a Saturday night game.
Week 1 vs. Kansas City 8:25 NBC TNF
Week 2 at Tampa Bay 1:00 CBS
Week 3 vs. Houston 1:00 CBS
Week 4 at Miami 8:30 ESPN MNF
Week 5 vs. NY Jets 1:00 CBS
Week 6 at New Orleans 4:25 CBS
Week 7 SNF at Pittsburgh 8:25 NBC
Week 8 vs. Carolina 4:25 FOX
Week 9 BYE
Week 10 vs. Atlanta 8:25 NBC SNF
Week 11 at Oakland 8:25 NBC SNF
Week 12 at Buffalo 1:00 CBS
Week 13 vs. Miami 4:25 CBS
Week 14 at Denver 4:25 CBS
Week 15 vs Buffalo 1:00 CBS
Week 16 Saturday vs. LA Chargers 8:25 NFLN
Week 17 at NY Jets 1:00 CBS
Yes, it is the night game. That would be the night game, obviously
Super news for all of us who may be driving home Sunday to the DC area from the holiday weekend.
But who cares if the team is unhappy? I mean that honestly. All teams likely have some complaint about their schedule or something. What are they going to do? Not show up?I'd be shocked if it was Atlanta. Carolina reportedly was not very happy about having to go to Denver to start the season after losing the SB to them and face fresh wounds. Given that ATL's loss was likely far more devastating, I have trouble thinking they go right back to that particular well. I'd put my money on KC.
Of course they'll show up and I understand your point, but the game is going to do huge ratings no matter what, so why piss off Blank when it was a big enough thing that Richardson made a point to throw a hissy fit over it last season? But who cares if the team is unhappy? SoSH ate my post. I eliminated SF (sucky), Oakland (plays in Mexico SNF before), and Dallas (plays earlier in the day) as their opponents. Leaves Denver, Arizona, Philly, Giants, and Minnesota as potential opponents. I am guessing it will be the Giants.
It doesn't matter. He'll beg Kraft to sit in the owner box, and Kraft will let him.It would be hilarious if Goodell missed another Foxboro visit to go to Atlanta for like the 87th time in the last 12 months.
