The only reason Shane starts Saturday against the baptists is that Sam’s brain has turned to jelly. Awesome game plan to make your true freshman QB your starting RB as well.

Herman might not last as long as Charlie.

I get that three-fifths of the starting offensive line is out.

But holy shit is this team bad. The defense is great until it isn’t. The offense just isn’t. Our kicking shenanigans continue. The best player on our team is the punter.

It’s a good thing we didn’t interview Matt Campbell or Justin Fuentes. Otherwise we might have gotten a good coach.

I don’t know man. They looked pretty damn salty on D. Sam is the real deal. Young looks like he has a ton of potential. This team has the pieces. I am a skeptic but a die-hard. That was a trap - ET, morning, long travel, bad weather, etc. And they answered the bell. One more against Tceh, which we should win, and then a bowl game. I would be very pleased with eight wins.

Who could have predicted that a knee-jerk hiring of an untested coach from a mid-major and three years’ HC experience instead of conducting a full-blown, nationwide search involving vetting and interviewing qualified candidates would have resulted in a 6-6 season?

Oh wait, I wrote this post three years ago.

I know its apples and oranges, but Saban was 7-6 in his first season at Bama. Take a look at the first three posts of this thread-7, 8, and 8 wins would make them happy. Now sitting at 6-6, this team is a dumpster fire. Which UT thread am I in?

I don't know that I'd go so far as to say dumpster fire but the pros and cons are pretty much a wash. I'm cautiously optimistic about the improvements on defense but if they don't make a change at OC, the grade improves from last year's F to a D-. And I wouldn't have much hope for any improvement on that side of the ball with the official loss of Connor Williams.

It’s aggy being aggy. They have to overpay to get any talent and they’re s collusion all they think Fisher took the job to be at the more successful school.

In 5 years they’ll buy him out and overpay again. It’s what aggy has done since 1938.

Things can still change, this team still has a boat load of needs and you may need some salt but this can't be anything but encouraging:

The Texas Longhorns signed the best defensive backs recruiting class ever

When Anthony Cook signed his LOI, the Horns managed to lock up six of the top 25 defensive back recruits in the country. The secondary is far from being the team's biggest weakness but Herman seems to be making a big push to bring back the old DBU mentality.

That JUCO signee last night is an immediate help for the OL. Herman can focus on DL for the February signing day - I'm not sold on the line coaching but you gotta get players at least.

I wish we could sign a new OC ...

In his presser yesterday he mentioned how generally weak the DL class is in Texas this year - there just aren’t very many difference-makers in the DL class right now. So yes, he needs to do some work on the DL before February, but we shouldn’t expect too much. Next year looks much better for the DL class, and we have some depth there already, so loading up on DB and LB talent this year appears to make sense.

He's so fucking good, he declared early. A punter. A punter declared for the NFL draft following his Junior season. Were Al Davis still alive, he might have a chance of being drafted in the second round. Hell, the only thing saving Cowboys fans from that ignominy is their very own Aussie punter who's damn good himself.

Aussie punters: the new market inefficiency?
