Not many would have expected Mork to be capable of Dead Poets Society
Sure they would have. The World According to Garp was contemporaneous with Mork and Mindy, and established Williams as a credible dramatic actor.

I thought KFPs post (with the Wilt Pic) was in response to this point.

That pic summed that up perfectly.
Wilt was supposed to be a giant in that movie, though, wasn't he? The more unbelievable thing was that Wilt “I slept with 20,000 women” Chamberlain was tasked with protecting Jehnna's virginity.

Gronk just tweeted this Someone smarter than me tell us what this means.

“Forseee your own future, control your own temptations, and your destiny will be not just be reached, it will just be starting.”
It means he’s watching Jordan Peterson videos on YouTube while considering his life.

Totally serious.

Edit addendum: Which to my thinking would suggest he’s really thinking through his options and what life after football could mean.

Herald piece this morning (not able to post the link) told the Pats to “give the man his money already.”

As somebody who a.) negotiates for a living, and b.) has at least a fan’s understanding of how the Patriots have operated the last 18 years, words fail me in trying to describe the lunacy of that position.

Here
He would have to be really injured/concerned to turn down $17M over the next two years. After that I could easily see him walk away.

Also his cap hit skyrockets this year and next. He can't be replaced but that would be a lot of money to work with if he were to leave.

Curran is pretty connected and pretty fair when it comes to the Pats so I can’t imagine that’s a made up story. Possible it is maneuvering by team Gronk, but I tend to believe it is probably true. I still think Gronk is back for one more year, he’s still playing an at elite level and I don’t think he steps away while he’s still the best in the league. But there’s enough smoke around this now that we can’t be shocked if Gronk is done.

Well besides playing for the Patriots and retiring there is always the option of a trade. Maybe to Cleveland.

I have to think that the way he is officiated is playing into this. The stuff that led up to the outburst against White had been brewing for some time. That game was just the tipping point. But it is consistent with the Curran line where he did not enjoy himself as much. I'm guessing its a mixture of several things that has him thinking things over.

Agreed. Not easy to take the pounding he does and keep coming back for more, even if he’s pretty well paid. I could see him taking a year off and making a comeback in 2019. Or he might be done altogether. Or, he might play 5 more years. Will be interesting story to follow.

Is it safe to assume that Gronk wants to train with Guerrero and the team is blocking that? Would make sense that he's frustrated if that's the case.
No, doesn't make sense to me.

He has had issues with the Patriots training staff throughout his career. Its why he marches to his owb beat during rehab. I'm thinking this is his way of trying to leverage less intense OTA and preseason participation.

If he does retire, even if only temporarily, we’re a half click here from “the refs forced Gronk into retirement.” Book it. Even though There is no evidence of this, only supposition.

Rap Sheet reporting that Gronk EXPECTED to play in 2018. So that sounds better than the alternative.

If true — and I sure hope it is — Mr. Curran is going to need some really strong glue to repair that limb he just sawed in half. And I know he never actually said Gronk was done.

Another thing to consider is that Gronk didn't make this an issue. He may have been doing this "evaluation his career after the season" thing the last few years for all we know. The question was presented to him at the post game press conference of the Super Bowl. He clearly wasn't ready for the question and gave a stock answer. So what Rapsheet is reporting sounds like it might be consistent with that. He never intended to make this a public issue, which is why no formal announcement may ever come. He didn't push this issue in front of us.

From all reports, players are still allowed to see and train with Guerrero. It's just that they have to walk the extra 10 minutes over the TB12 facility as opposed to being able to see Guerrero in the Pats training room; only Brady gets to do that.

It's quite possible that Gronk is not a fan of the Pats training staff. Of course, the Patriots aren't about to give Gronk veto power over who they hire as trainers, nor should they. However, I cannot see Gronk being upset at having to walk 10 minutes to do his pliability training. Or, if he is, I can honestly say I could care less.

If true — and I sure hope it is — Mr. Curran is going to need some really strong glue to repair that limb he just sawed in half. And I know he never actually said Gronk was done.
Curran did say that when he talked to Gronk in December, that Gronk said was having a great time. There were some inconsistencies in Curran's story; but, hey, he got some clicks because of it, so it must be true.

Gronk agreed to talk to me about his new diet and when the Pats found out, they told me it couldn’t happen. But since Gronk really wanted to talk about it, he did. In the end, I still got a 1400-word feature out of it, but it was annoying how the Pats tried to stop the story.

Daniels - “The Patriots also didn’t want me to write a story on Gronk doing the TB12 diet and working with Guerrero.”

One could read something into that good news, but I won’t. Don’t believe Schefter was likely being Uber-precise with how he phrased it, assuming the tweet is how he phrased it.

Action hero is in no way equivalent to talented actor. I think it was Liam Neeson who said most actors are not actually acting, rather they are being directed.

Gronk just tweeted #clueless with an emoji. This is a load of crap. Either you're coming back or you're not.
Given the love we have for the guy, all of this chatter is tough to take. That said, Gronk owes neither the Patriots nor their fans anything other than fulfilling his contractual obligations to the best of his ability. If he feels he is unable to do so or to continue doing so in New England, it sucks for us but he has earned it.

We all knew one day Gronk would end up throwing himself out of the club too.

I love him and I’d love to have him back if he is all in but I also, for the first time, probably wouldn’t be opposed to trading him if the price is right.

I'm not sure we'll find any answers by parsing the tweets of Gronk or the media. The chances of him being traded seem really low.

He'll be back, he'll catch 65-80 passes for 1000 yards, 8-10 TDs and we'll all laugh at this thread.

Maybe he hasn’t decided for sure yet. We’re not even at the combine, never mind the draft, and free agency hasn’t started yet. At some point this will become an issue for the team if his status is still up in the air, but I don’t think we’re there yet.

Hmmm ... the Patriots just finished with the NFC South in the schedule rotation. Sending Gronk to Tampa or New Orleans could ensure not seeing him as an opponent before he retires

It's Gronk, he might just be watching the movie.

Maybe he’s way more in to California politics than anyone realizes?

There may be smoke here, but the smoke is not all consistent. I mean, doing TB12 is a serious commitment. And it’s not fun. Was this annoyance about men having fun with big things or little things?

All told, though, at least half f the concerns are those I would hope to hear from anyone who is growing and maturing. There really is a point when people should decide, “This was fun, but seriously, fuck this.”

I actually wonder where Brady would stand if he wasn’t a QB and didn’t have all the protection from rules and refs and stuff. I mean, does anyone question the Baltimore lineman who quit so he could be a mathematician?

Maybe someone offers the moon for him, but I just don’t see the Pats letting Brady’s binky go anywhere else while they still apparently have at least another good run or two left in him.

If Gronk wants to play, does B.B. actually consider a trade? If so, what could be the return?
He should always consider everything, but it would have to be a first rounder, and I can’t see him sending Gronk to an immediate contender. That team would also need commitment, meaning you’d need like a 3-4 year deal with a lot of the guarantees coming in years 2-4. If San Fran would give us that first pick of theirs, I would do it. But, while a possibility, I think a trade is a long shot.

It’s very interesting and a bit sad. Gronk I figured to be a NEP lifer — though a T. Gonzalez career arc for Gronk was never in the cards, or remotely close.

I honestly do not know what this is primarily about. Money? No. Conflicted about retirement? Probably.

Chafing under the current regime and more than a little pissed off about how last year unfolded? Very likely, I think.

The last thing he’ll do is throw the team under the bus, so this might be a guessing game for a long time.

If it's mostly about money, I'd have to believe it's probably fixable.

If he's still contemplating retirement just because, then there's nothing to be done until he's had time to make a decision.

If he's truly unhappy in New England and wants to go elsewhere or retire, then the Pats should only trade him if the other team is willing offer a first round pick (or multiple picks). Gronk is not a "trade him for 4th round pick" type player; I'd rather he'd "retire" if that was the return.
