It's here guys. Draftmas. Woohoo!!!

Should we allow spoilers?

Opportunity for BB to trade up if he is eyeing a prospect...

Offensive tweets from Josh Allen surface hours before NFL draft

The timing on this isn't great for Josh, but it might not have much impact, depending on which team was planning on taking him. Most of the tweets aren't that terrible if you give him a "young and stupid" mulligan.

This one might not go over so well with Cleveland today but might have secured the #1 spot for him if the draft were a few months from now.

Yup. If we din’t Like somebody 14 thru 23, it is going to disappoint.

Two threads — one allowing spoilers, the other not?

It was in 2011. He was 14 or 15 years old.
But yeah, the ghost of social media past again rears its ugly head.

He’s 21 now so your math is right. Edit: well, my opinion changed given than he used the N word.

Also, kudos if the pick is Mayfield and it was under wraps until now. I’m just happy for Cleveland fans that they are going to get a QB. I have Baker higher than Allen or Darnold. So does ITP. Baker is PFF and FO’s darling. Good luck, Cleveland.

Well, there are other posts with profanity in them, depending on how you describe the n word.

I have always been a fan of no spoilers in round 1 but spoilers in rounds 2-7. I think if people used the spoiler function it would be nice for those who want all no spoilers but that might be too much work. Unless someone feels strongly about not spoiling it I think it's OK.

No spoilers in rounds 1-3 (Thu, Fri), spoilers ok for Saturday would be my preference.

Oh shit. I did not catch that. Maybe I am not such a tiger parent for monitoring my kids social media after all. Wow, look, no words aside from I don't care if you are a teenager you should know better. The n word is much worse than garden variety George Carlin.

Did Josh Allen not choose a competent agent who scrubbed his social media? Or did he refuse to scrub it? Either would be a sign of bad judgement.

I haven't seen the tweets and have no interest in them. But it's almost a certain guarantee that as a teenage boy, he WAS young and stupid. Weren't we all? It's not like he couldn't grow and mature.....

Schefter says buzz growing that Cleveland will take Mayfield.
And The Athletic has a story today that one team has a 5th round grade on him.

Another team has Lamar Jackson as a Free Agent.

The NFL Draft is awesome.

But one team, which has leadership figures who hail from the Bill Belichick tree, has a third-round grade on Jackson.

I added a vote for spoilers. Let's make this today's game thread, we can have a new round 2-3 one tomorrow and vote again if we want.

If there was a way to bet on Seattle trading back from #18, I'd put my house on it. Pay no attention to the fact that I don't own a house and live in an apartment, I'd still spend that kind of money on it.

Pats seems like a good trading partner if there is a guy they want, since the Pats can offer a 2nd or 3rd round pick. I was just talking about this with my dad, but what if say Derwin James slips to 18 though? Given the Thomas and Chancellor situations, could they pass that up?

Hilarious. I love this stuff.

I was reading some scouts' comments on Aaron Rodgers from before he was drafted the other day. It was amazing not just how many scouts didn't like him, but how many specifically mentioned supposedly negative attributes (not very mobile, can't improvise, only a so-so arm) that are the exact opposite of his skillset in the NFL.

Its all basically a crapshoot and everybody involved in the draft evaluation industry is totally full of shit on some level regarding how they talk about players.

This is draft day bullshit, earlier in the day than Tunsil, so he can make some phone calls. And teams can poll their team leaders if they are concerned.

I am of a generation that does not like the word with any spelling. He is not of my generation and things are different.

They have Bradley McDougald, who replaced Chancellor very capably last year and filled in for Thomas (briefly) too. If Thomas gets dealt (to Dallas, really can't see anyone else stepping up for him), then yes, they might take James, but with Dallas' pick, they'd pick back-to-back so he could be one of the picks. I think Thomas ends up getting his extension and finishes his career in Seattle. He's expecting an extension heading into the last year of his deal and he should, since the team is on record as saying they don't do extensions until the last year of the deal (see Bennett, Chancellor among others). They'll find a way to make it work, since he's the most valuable guy on the defense. Just look at 2016 after he broke his leg to see how the defense fell apart without him.

Have to imagine that a full social media investigation is a standard part of the draft prep process, especially for the top-tier players. Just because the media is only now getting wind of it doesn’t mean that teams haven’t already seen it, considered it, and even tossed it at Allen and his agent for a response.

This draft may be one of the better ones we see with all the speculation around the QBs, who is going to pick who, will there be trades, etc. Looking forward to seeing how this all shakes out tonight.

Agree. This likely is to produce yawns. But we are now in the eye of the throw-it-against-the-wall and hope-somebody-blinks storm.

That word, in any form, is unacceptable for a caucasian of any generation. It's true that he was very young when he posted it but that doesn't mean that it won't still cost him.

Thanks for the info, that all makes a lot of sense. Do you think they trade Earl to Dallas tonight??

My buddies wife met 20-30 of these guys last night. She came home and told him “Josh Allen is the real deal.” Then he told her about the breaking news...
here’s a fun bit. Nelson came over to the Pizza Hut C-Suite table and sat down. He said “I fucking love you guys and eat your shit all the fucking time. You ever do work with offensive linemen?” He apparently was the funniest guy there too.

This should have been the move all along for the Giants.

Spoke to a Giants source. He said the feeling in this building today is the Giants are looking to trade down. When I asked why? He said “we have a ton of needs”
NYG contemplating all options.

Agree completely. Picking ahead of a team that is clearly going QB makes that spot even more valuable

+1.
We can talk all we want about generational differences, but the n word has too much history draped over it, all of it bad.

Any suggestions on who/where to follow for more draft info today? Any Twitter follows to recommend besides Schefty? Nothing is even happening yet and I can't focus on work. I need more rumors!

Can we officially label this the No Spoilers thread now? Especially as there's a separate thread with spoilers?

I'm sure there'll still be a spoiler or two in here regardless of thread title, and I really want to lay the groundwork for getting righteously outraged later in the evening when it happens. If it's right there in the title I'll just feel a whole lot more comfortable about flying completely off the fucking handle.

If saying some stupid things as a teenager causes Allen to drop, I'd love to swoop in and trade up for him. If a team that would've taken Allen actually chooses not to take him because he said a word he shouldn't have on social media then they're total idiots

There is a pretty big camp that thinks a team would be idiots for using a high draft pick on Allen, and it has nothing to do with Twitter, it's because he is very inaccurate on his throws. If they trade up and draft Allen, I'll be more surprised than I was with the trades/releases of Lawyer Milloy, Richard Seymour, Jamie Collins, Logan Mankins, Chandler Jones, and Brandin Cooks, combined.

If you're someone like the 49ers you have to be thrilled with this draft. You're picking ninth and you're likely going to have 4-5 QB's taken in front of you. You're getting top 3-4 talent at 9 or you can trade back if QB's start to fall.

I’m skeptical that this is true in general, but it might be in rural Firebaugh, California, where Allen played his high school ball.
It’s true of kids I pass in Manhattan. It’s true of my cousins in LA, Boston, Arkansas and Miami. I guess at a certain point kids figured they were just going to do the whole verse and not clam up every time the n word is used in their favorite song like we used to.

Jeff Howe is speculating that Frank Ragnow a guard out of Arkansas might be the pick at 23. Getting him and trading out of 31 would totally be a hallmark of a Belichick draft.

Ragnow is a late riser and he’s been linked to Cincy in round 1 lately. He’s a center/guard, but could be very Mankins-esque.

Rapping along is different, and doesn’t necessarily suggest that using the word is OK in a different context. (I haven’t seen Allen’s tweet, but I assume it involved something more than quoting a 140-character snippet from a rap song.)
