My interest in this is obviously transparent but Mike McCoy just decided to run Chase Edmunds on 2nd and 1, on which he lost 2 before an incomplete pass on 3rd down leading to an inexplicable punt down 25. After a 3rd and short uncatchable fade into double coverage on a previous series.

Their entire coaching staff needs to be fired. They are misusing every single piece they have.
It’s incredible that all you need to get a plum coaching job at the highest level is to have previously had another coaching job. Doesn’t matter how you did. For all anyone cares you could have made Melvin Gordon look like a bust. Hired!

Their last 12 months or so is mystifying. Arians supposedly retired on his own, but one would think based on his successful run the franchise would want to continue his efforts. Nope - they hired totally different coaches who run totally different schemes, and now a lot of their players / picks don't fit and they stink. It makes me think Arians' retirement might not have been 100% voluntary.

so watching a couple highlights of this... holy moly have the Cardinals lost it. rebuild time.
Did you catch the part where their franchise QB got body slammed all game but they still let him drop back and pass on 4th and 16 with 2 mins to go down 45-10?

That was coaching malpractice.

I felt like I was in the minority but I thought Arians did a great job last season given all the injuries that he got that shit sandwich to 8-8.

So coming into the game, one of the issues was that the Cardinals:
1. were running David Johnson in downfield routes 3.5% of the time (vs. 20+% in 2016)
2. 48% of their runs were right up the middle (way more than rest of the league).

For multiple weeks, Wilks has been saying that they need to work on getting Johnson into space.

so what does McCoy do (based on my observation, data not out yet).....
1. David Johnson ran 2 routes all game, 1 in the first quarter and 1 in the 4th
2. David Johnson had 14 carries, 13 would be classified as "up the middle"

He actually made it worse, at this point the only explanation that makes sense is that he's unhappy in Arizona and wants to get fired so he can collect the paychecks and wait for a college job to open up

It's absolutely malpractice, as noted above, and insane. It's really like he's actively trying to lose his job.

Speculation can be dangerous and usually the simplest explanation is the right one. I am more likely to believe Arians did retire on his own and a shitty franchise did shitty franchise things. But that being said... woof. Also, it wouldn’t shock me if it turns out you are right.

If I’m the Cardinals I trade back and try to get multiple blue chip pieces. The one thing I would say is a positive though is at least they have a QB of the future (in theory). Their O-Line has been bad for years. Start there maybe.

And here it is:

I think one of those runs is outside the tackle.

And from this article: http://www.espn.com/blog/arizona-cardinals/post/_/id/30834/mike-mccoys-days-as-cardinals-oc-likely-numbered
18 of the team's 20 carries (14 for DJ, 5 for Edmonds and 1 end around to Nelson) were between the tackles, and TEN were behind the center. So... 18 of 19 RB carries.

Further exploits in RB usage crime:
David Johnson has 3 catches on 3 targets for 31 yards.... the first was in the 1st quarter as part of the Cardinals only scoring drive of the half (it was a screen) the next didn't come until they were down 32 in the 4th.

Chase Edmonds had 3 catches on 3 targets for 12 yards.

It's criminal. Even if you're just throwing quick swing passes and the like, DJ can easily turn those into 1st downs which have been in short supply. How can a coach so thoroughly misunderstand his own players, never mind even considering how to get them in mismatches?

When Rosen gets a few offensive linemen, a decent coordinator, and probably a new head coach... it's not uncommon for a rookie QB to be in a bad landing spot. Add shitty coaching to the mix with inferior personnel and you get a never ending cycle of turd sandwiches.

Mariota called for an illegal pass. He was beyond the line of scrimmage. Only the ref that was literally standing with the receiver immediately signals backwards pass. After the play is over, a flag comes out, 10 yards down field from a different official.

Titans putting together a tremendous drive with underneath passes and solid runs. So they get to the 8 yard line and try some razzle dazzle, fake sweep, and it's an INT.

Because when something is working, it's important to go away from it.

It was pretty clearly a forward pass on replay. Great call by the ref to prevent the need for a challenge.

Bruce Arians is really bad as a commentator. He mumbles so much I can barely figure out what he's saying half the time, and he rarely says anything interesting.

Mariota isn't good in the best of circumstances, but Tennessee dropped two very very easy passes that drive. One that ended the drive and resulted in a missed FG. Drops are really brutal for a team.

Dion is way better than Henry
It's not even a question. It's insane how poorly Lewis has been utilized this season. It's like the Cardinals with David Johnson. "How can we use these guys so we don't in any way play to their strengths."

Oh, and there's Henry for a 2 yard run. He's dynamic!

Yup. Ball seems like it should be moved forward about 12 inches. Weird.
