The #Cowboys are giving star G Zack Martin a contract extension that makes him the highest-paid guard with the largest guarantee at his position in NFL history, source said. Richly deserved, as Dallas locks up another key building block on the O-line.

Jameis Winston about to get a 3 game suspension—groping Uber driver. Their first 3 games are tough too.

A whole 3 games, I wonder what kind of perverted thing you have to do to get a 4 game suspension. It would have to be really disgusting.

I mean, it's certainly not as bad as maybe being generally aware that some team employees may or may not have deflated some footballs to no competitive advantage. So you can't cross the 4 games barrier just for mere felonies.

/obligatory, let's move on

He should thank his lucky stars it wasn’t domestic violence, then he’d gotten six games since he’s not on the Giants.

Ryan Fitzpatrick has had a super-charmed NFL career.

I suggested to my Bucs-fan-friend (yup, I've got one) that this can all turn out great for them so long as Fitzy plays as well as Jimmy G.

A dead body was found today in the home of Giants CB Janoris Jenkins in Fair Lawn, NJ. He's in Florida, but an investigation has opened up. WABC interviewed a neighbor who said police came around asking if anyone heard gun shots last night. ESPN is reporting that Jenkins had family staying at the house. They also say a man claiming to be his brother got off a flight last night from Newark to Ft. Lauderdale because he was "too scared to fly."

Does anyone know where Asante Samuel or Wes Welker were that night? They’re known to choke around Giants.

Victim was a family friend who was living at the house. Police are investigating it as a strangulation.
Jenkins’ brother arrested (charged with aggravated manslaughter). Was in prison twice over last 12 years on drug charges; most recently paroled in 2016.

Janoris instructed to stay in Florida until further notice.

NFL cares so much about sexual assault...

we'll negotiate down a mandatory minimum 1st time offense so long as it's not front page news, there is no video, and/or you're a Giant.

On Thursday, the NFL issued a three-game suspension to Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Specifically, after an investigation, the NFL determined that Winston touched an Uber driver “in an inappropriate and sexual manner without her consent.” Even more specifically, Winston had been accused of grabbing the crotch of the female driver and holding his hand there “for three to five seconds.”

The NFL’s history of issuing punishment has varied greatly. Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was forced to serve a six-game suspension for domestic violence allegations which were not proven true and which were actually discounted by the lead investigator who was put on the case. On the other end of the spectrum, former quarterback Brett Favre received no suspension and just a $50,000 fine for allegedly sending explicit photos and messages to a female Jets employee in 2008. Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was issued a six-game suspension after he was accused of sexual assault in 2010, but Roger Goodell shortened that suspension to four games after Roethlisberger personally appealed his case to the commissioner. Former Giants kicker Josh Brown was suspended for one game for domestic violence, though he was later placed on the commissioner’s exempt listonce the general public found out about what Brown did. A year later, for no reason, the league suspended Brown for six games, even though he was out of the league.

So, clearly, the NFL does not have a uniform standard in place for incidents of sexual assault. And according to one report, Winston’s punishment came after some negotiating from the league, the players’ union, and Winston’s own representatives.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer and NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported shortly after the suspension news broke that the three-game ban had been agreed upon by all sides. Breer said there was “mutual benefit,” because the league would not receive the months of negative publicity that can accompany a long appeals process, and because the player would not have to serve a suspension that’s too lengthy.

I get that PEDs are bad. But it still amazes me that a Sexual assault isnt (in most cases) as bad as taking a drug in the NFLs eyes.

What power could the NFL have to "fine" him at this point, now that he's no longer an owner? He's an odious guy, sure, but if I were him I'd tell them where they could stick their invoice.

And that's leaving aside how big-brother-ish it is to have an employer "fine" employees (or even ex-owners) in the first place, which @Reverend has observed in other contexts before.

The investigation was started well before he sold (and was the reason he sold), so I am sure that there was contractual language that he is beholden to. It probably is included in the final sale agreement that the NFL owners have to approve as well. I mean, he could tell them where they could “stick their invoice”, and then they could sue him and cost him probably quadruple. $2.75 million on $1.3 billion which came from a $100 million investment is a joke anyways, so I’m pretty sure he doesn’t care.

And their rookie contracts last 4, 5 if they are drafted in round 1 (where they at least get round 1 money).

LeVeon Bell did not sign a long term deal and says this is his last year as a Steeler.
Honestly, I think this is kind of smartly played by the Steelers. He will have a ton of mileage on him when they let him walk.

On the other hand... would it surprise anyone if he sat a bunch of games for "injuries", including possibly a playoff game? I picture LDT in the 2007 AFFCG in Foxboro.
