The NYT on the "Eli in the room"

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/22/sports/eli-manning-giants-future.html?rref=collection/sectioncollection/sports&action=click&contentCollection=sports&region=rank&module=package&version=highlights&contentPlacement=1&pgtype=sectionfront

"...Fans now loudly accuse the Giants’ brain trust of not only bungling this season but ruining the team’s future, too.

At the center of it all is Eli Manning, the beloved quarterback who brought the team its last two championships, winning the Most Valuable Player Award in each Super Bowl, but who is well past his prime...."

Rant totally worth it. And he’s right.

Cute though how he cuts excuses for Fr. Tom Coughlin not disciplining OBJ.

Eli Apple has been traded to New Orleans for a 4th this year and a 7th next year.

Hearing the Eli Apple trade may just be tip of the iceberg. Strong perception among other teams thag the Giants are "open for business' ahead of next week's trade deadline

So long as they keep letting the other Eli start at QB and drive his career record below .500, that sounds fantastic.

I mean, super.

Who else on that roster is both a tradeable asset for cap/roster building purposes and desirable for a team to acquire?

I don’t think they can trade Jenkins or Vernon given the dead money they’d absorb under the cap, and it thins out pretty fast after that.

Connor Barwin?

SO asking for Carter and or Barkley would be like asking the Store owner who is open for business how much for his wife and Daughter.

Kelvin Harmon? Saquon, Shepard and OBJ aren't nearly enough weapons for a player like Eli!

Sterling Shepard only makes 1.3m next year so he should have mid round value

I can't help feeling satisfaction that the Giants brought their current clusterfuck of a situation upon themselves by paying too much homage to the one thing that has been their fans calling card for a decade now--that Eli was HOF-quality, and uniquely so because he beat the vaunted Patriots in 2 SBs.

What makes it doubly satisfying is the organization recognized this trap, but their method of escaping from it was executed so poorly that they were forced to double down on Eli.

Also, the immortal Nick Foles accomplishing the same feat last year as Eli, and without a miracle catch, takes the bloom off that particular rose.

2018 Halloween Suburban NJ QB jersey recap:

Darnold 3
Eli 1
Brady 1

I felt sorry for Opie I told him I wished instead of a candy bar I could give him an O-line.

His dad snickered.

Eli down to a 112-110 career record... 34-53 since 2013... getting closer to being under .500 for his career.

Eli Manning has has been sacked 31 times through just eight games which leads the league for the season and is already the second highest season total of his career. He has been sacked on 9% of his drop backs so far this season and ostensibly hit or knocked down on well over 10%. At this rate he will be lucky to get through the season without a significant injury. The Giants offensive line is underperforming but it also seems that Eli is holding the ball for too long.

Correction, he would be lucky to be knocked out so that his career record doesn’t dip below .500
