It is going to be awesome when Tiger gets his the putting and tee-to-green game going at the same time. Early in the year he was shaky off the tee but the putter/short game was excellent. This week he’s been a wizard tee to green but can’t get putts to go on.

It is because CBS has the afternoon TV slot so they’ll do it tape delay. You can watch the broadcast live now on PGA Tour Live or CBSsports.com apparently.

Odd TV choices today, to go live at 8:30 and then disappear for the finish. I guess I'll watch it on my iPad but Tiger is out of it anyway.

They just started the coverage again on Golf Channel, and Tiger is playing #2, and he hit his 3 wood off the tee 326 yards.

I'd throw away the driver if I could do that.

My question is why are the groups teeing off so early on Sunday this week? Are they afraid of weather coming in the afternoon?

Man, that's worse than awful. Thanks for pointing it out. Tiger really could stand to clean that sloppiness up.
It gets worse when you look at the rest of his off-the-tee stats (all out of 206):

Distance rank: 24th
Distance (all drives): 60th
Accuracy: 200th @ 52%
Total driving: 134th

I'm guessing he already is laying off the driver more than most players given the driver vs. all drives difference. Less than exceptional distance and doesn't know where it's going. He's a disaster off the tee for a tour pro.

Both are likely on the Ryder Cup this year.
Cantlay will still be 28th in the Ryder Cup standings after this week. The Top 8/Mickelson are not going anywhere, and Woods will almost certainly be number 10. Cantlay has a whole lot of work to do to get one of those final two spots over all the guys ahead of him including Webb Simpson and Kooch.

Edit: He actually only moved up to #31. Barring a major win, he would probably need at least another tour win and very high finishes in at least two of the remaining majors to warrant a Captain's pick.

Early look at the Shinnecock weather next week. Looks like temps will be on the cooler side and partly cloudy all week. Perfect weather if you ask me.

Thursday--20% chance of showers high of 71
Friday--30% chance of morning showers high of 68
Saturday--20% chance of showers high of 70
Sunday--20% chance of showers high of 71

Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but the European Tour event in Austria this week is using a shot clock - 40 or 50 seconds per shot, one-shot penalty if you don't beat the clock. In yesterday's first round, no penalties were administered, and rounds took 40 minutes faster than normal:

A big AMEN from the congregation, please!

Sounds good. Don't like this paragraph

This is an idea that should be rolled out across the professional game with allowances made for conditions. The flat calm in Austria showed that 45 seconds is actually plenty for the player hitting first and 35 would be ample for subsequent shots. In windier conditions more time should be allowed because the integrity of the game would otherwise be compromised.
I'm not opposed to a little more time in the wind, but I am talking on line of more seconds, but the worst of all on the PGA tour are the days where wind is a factor, and you have guys sitting there for 4 minutes waiting for the wind to do exactly what they want it to do before they are willing to tee off

Anyone watching the Travelers? Casey went into today with like a 4 shot lead or something. That's all gone now. Bubba is -6 on the day, and tied with Casey, who just put his tee ball on the par 5 13th into the water. A lot of guys going low today. Could be a fun finish.

Isn’t that basically the edge? Seems like 15 tour wins or 3 majors is needed to seal the deal. He probably wins a couple more tour events and ends up a no-doubter but it feels like he needs a nudge as things stand. Ditto for Zach Johnson.
It's an automatic criteria with 2 majors. The auto criteria is dumb IMO.
Male Competitors

A player must have a cumulative total of 15 or more official victories on any of the original members of the International Federation of PGA Tours (PGA TOUR, European Tour, Japan Golf Tour, Sunshine Tour, Asian Tour and PGA of Australasia) OR at least two victories among the following events: The Masters, THE PLAYERS Championship, the U.S. Open, The Open Championship and the PGA Championship.

A player must be at least 50 years old during the year of a given Induction Ceremony (example: A player must turn 50 years old in 2017 in order to qualify for the Class of 2017), or be at least five years removed from being an active participant (as determined by the Tour) on any of the original members of the International Federation of PGA Tours.

Especially since Bubba is not exactly the best-liked player among his peers or those within the game. He's the kind of guy that one would think needs to make it a no-brainer. I'd agree that a third major or 15 wins would make it as much.

ZJ's chances I like a little better. Two different majors 8 years apart, and a good Ryder Cup record (8-6-2, compared to Bubba's poor 3-8-0) along with a complete lack of controversy, should get him in.
