Apologies if this isn't the right thread but I'll give it a whirl anyway. Never traveled for a game but was throwing around the idea with some buddies about going to Tennessee for the game. How far in advance should everything get booked by if we were to go?

Call me crazy but that's a pretty easy schedule. Assuming the team plays like they normally do seems like 13 or so wins.

Jacksonville in September will be brutal.
I played in an adult soccer league about 7-8 years ago and our first game was nfl week 2. I remember not being able to stand in the same place on the field (field turf) because my cleats were starting to melt. Assuming no hurricane postponement it will probably be around 93 at kickoff.

The good teams are spread out through the schedule instead of having one brutal stretch like in previous years. There's a nice mini bye between Weeks 5 and 6 as well as the bye week in Week 11 so that is nice. They also don't leave Foxboro for pretty much the entire month of October.

Plus the Week 4 and Week 5 games are like byes, too. So it'll be a very nice, extended break.

The Jets are on the road and on FOX in Week 4 so I imagine Dolphins-Patriots will be the 1:00 CBS game shown that day as they have the doubleheader. Here’s my guess at the NYC viewing guide which will likely be rendered irrelevant anyways by flexing:

1
JAC-NYG FOX
KC-LAC CBS
DAL-CAR FOX

2
MIA-NYJ CBS
DET-SF FOX
NE-JAC CBS

3
NYG-HOU FOX
LAC-LAR CBS
DAL-SEA FOX

4
NYJ-JAC FOX
MIA-NE CBS
NO-NYG CBS

5
DEN-NYJ CBS
NYG-CAR FOX
MIN-PHI FOX

6
IND-NYJ CBS
LAR-DEN FOX
JAC-DAL CBS

7
MIN-NYJ FOX
DAL-WAS CBS

8
NYJ-CHI CBS
WAS-NYG FOX
GB-LAR FOX

9
NYJ-MIA CBS
ATL-WAS FOX
LAR-NO FOX

10
BUF-NYJ CBS
LAC-OAK FOX
SEA-LAR CBS

11
TB-NYG FOX
DEN-LAC CBS
TBD FOX (likely either DAL-ATL or PHI-NO, there's currently no 4:25 game)

12
NYG-PHI FOX
NE-NYJ CBS
PIT-DEN CBS

13
CHI-NYG FOX
NYJ-TEN CBS
MIN-NE FOX

14
NYJ-BUF CBS
NYG-WAS FOX
PHI-DAL FOX

15
TEN-NYG CBS
SEA-SF FOX
NE-PIT CBS

16
GB-NYJ FOX
PIT-NO CBS
NYG-IND could be moved to Saturday. Even if it is, NYC won't get another game since the Jets are home on FOX and CBS has the doubleheader.

There’s also no national doubleheader game Week 11 which I’ve never seen before.
The reason I said Pats wouldn't be on in NYC in Week 4 is because the Jets are on at 1:00. IIRC, if a NY team is on in any window that another game is not allowed to be shown in the viewing area unless for some reason both NY teams were on at the same time.

Raiders vs 49ers in primetime will be wild. Do the two fanbases still hate each other?
This is an incredibly stupid thing for the NFL to do. Those two teams don't play against each other in the preseason anymore because the fans were so out of hand before games that it was dangerous. Now you not only have them play each other, but do so in the evening? Yikes.

Edit: Ah, it's on a Thursday at 5:20. Which may mean less hooliganism, but also means traffic will be absolutely horrific and the stadium will be half-empty at the start. Good times!

On a personal level, this is a rough schedule for me. I like to take my kids up from NJ for one game a year. Because of the travel involved and a desire for them to not miss school, my typical preferences are:

1- 1pm Sunday
2- Ideally, first ~10 weeks of the year

Option 1 is on my wife's birthday, Option 2 is on our wedding anniveversary. Option 3, my only shot, is the opener vs the Texans, and I am sure I'll have a bitch of a time getting tickets for that...

At least i have a hotel room though at the new Hilton..

Looks like 11 TV games as of now....thats a good year, Im always happy with 8+...also, central NJ here, my Philly afiliates MAY squeeze out 1 more

Schedule looks really good. Like people above saying the big games are spread out mostly.

Does anyone know when tickets go on sale?

One thing about the Pats schedule that often does not get factored in is that every team brings their A-game for the Pats. Tomato Cans or not, football is a lot about physical and mental effort and for teams who play against the Pats, that game is often their Super Bowl. Pats have been playing against opponents who prepare and try a lot harder than your average team for almost 20 years.

Every year I look at the schedule and I picture in my mind how the Patriots are going to lose like 6 games. Like this schedule, I could see them losing:

- vs Hou (Watson could give them problems and the Pats often struggle early)
- at Jax (they're tough)
- vs KC (seem to give NE fits)
- at Buf (pain in the ass team)
- vs GB (Rodgers)
- vs Min (great defense)
- at Mia (always a problem for NE)
- at Pit (Pats fare well but come on - easy to see them lose this game)

That's 7 possible losses that I see. Of course, what always happens is that they win most of those, and end up with 12-14 wins on the year, so that's probably what will happen again. I'll take 12-4 and the #1 seed again.

I had no idea this was the actual rule because as far as I can remember it basically never comes up.

Between:
  • The obscene amount of national games for NE every year
  • All of NE/NYJ/NYG being primarily 1 pm teams
  • The NJ teams having to work a schedule around sharing a stadium
...there is almost never a time where they share a timeslot with one or both of those teams, with neither at home, AND with NE scheduled for the other network. Anecdotally I don’t remember any.

Seeing as the Pats always win more than 11, we should all bet the house. Right?
