So London likes a guy on the Sixers? Good to know.
Ha. In fairness, I was singing the Turks praises.

21yr old overseas kid puts up 40pts in Summer League. As a hoops fan how can you not appreciate that? That's the bright side, in other Sixers news:

Why bring Markelle to Vegas if you don't want the spotlight on him? Shouldn't he be in a gym in Missouri with Drew Hanlan counting 3pointers made?

On a basketball note, I think Jordan Bell with his weirdly short strides may accelerate faster than any big man I've seen (if you can call him a big man?)

Athletically, the first guy that comes to my mind is Shawn Kemp.

The Shawn Kemp I remember looked a lot bigger than RWill but as it turns out, RWill is 10 pounds heavier than Kemp. My have times changed.
What version of Shawn Kemp? Kemp was often listed at a lighter weight than actuality and by his Cavs days he was pushing 3 bills.

Shawn Kemp also had incredibly small hands and couldn't palm a basketball. If that sorta thing means anything.

The Sonics Shawn Kemp. I happened to be in Seattle for a few months in 1992 and that was before the entire world knew how good the Sonics were and people didn't care as much about basketball. I could wall up to a game and a get great seats for 1/2 price. Kemp and Payton and Perkins and Derrick McKey and Nate McMillan and Michael Cage and Eddie Johnson and Ricky Pierce. Plus George Karl and Tim Grgurich. Great team and fun to watch.

edit: this is better.

Hassan Martin did a lot of good things in his sort stint at the end of the Sixers game. Eight points on three shots, including two and-1s, two offensive rebounds, a steal, and solid defense in the last five minutes. I don't know if there's a place for a 6'7" shot blocking, rebounding, no perimeter forward in today's NBA, but Martin is a competitor.

For the short time that Williams played, I did nothing but watch him. That guy moves very well for a man that big. His switching and contests on jump shooters looked promising. He obviously can clear the glass. Then Williams bumps a knee and is pulled for the rest of the game. The Tantalizer, indeed.

Here's the reaction of Donovan Mitchell and his "VERY attractive friend" to the Jordan Bell "call me" gesture. Mitchell does actually look mildly displeased. (Any lip-readers in the house?) This could be an excellent NBA beef to keep an eye on going forward...

Greatest athlete cameo of all time; narrowly edging out Brady in Ted 2 and Kareem in BASEketball.

In the brief time he played, how did RWill look offensively? Any mid range jump shots or anything of the sort? Or were his 4 points of the garbage offense variety, ie putbacks?

One bucket he was fed down low and quick-leapt his way to a dunk. The other he was fed in the post, faced up and sunk a 10 footer.

is there a thread around here that has all the draftniks, like yourself, with their pre-draft mock picks?

I’ve outsourced my mock to Kevin O’Connor since I don’t watch college ball. Where did I have Knox?

I wonder why Nader isn’t out there. Guy needs all the reps he can get.
He’s unavailable, recovering from wrist surgery.

Stretch Nader. Sign Bird.
I’ve been waiting for Nader to get Demetrius Jacksoned since December but honestly if Smart signs the QO I think they have space to just take the full $450k hit this year and not have to stretch it.

Yabu and Bird dunks impressive. If Yabu can make that power move a part of his offensive reportoire, he's a lot more valuable

I don’t mind 49. Will he make team as end of bench PG or do we have enough guys that can handle the ball to not need that

Probably more than covered if Smart comes back and Wanamaker signed.

I'd like to see Bird taking more 3s but he has looked pretty good. It'd be nice to have another offensive weapon off the bench.

Well that was Ugly with a capital U. Bird looked good, but Ojeleye didn't look any more mobile, there seemed a distinct lack of rim protection, and Henry got hit with a flagrant-1 for practically JR Smith-ing Malik Beasley as he rose up for a dunk (I don't think it was intentional, but he took his legs out and spun him, and Beasley landed super awkwardly and could easily have been injured).

John Collins had 30 points tonight and went 4-7 from 3. I didn't realize he started shooting the 3 midway thru last season.

I didn't see the game last night, but saw some of Jabari's highlights this morning, and wow. He must know this is an audition for an NBA job, somewhere, and he's turning it all on. I mentioned upthread that there was a story about Philly and Minnesota being interested in him, and I can see someone being willing to throw a little money at him.

Let’s make that happen in 2019. It would be great to watch guys who follow this much more closely than I do post their mocks and update them. If someone reminds me, I’ll start a thread in April. (Of course, I don’t need to be the one who starts it.)

Bird didn't shoot 3's well in the G League. He'll have to improve on that to make it in the NBA. Otherwise he certainly looks the part.

I'm not really a thread starter but its never to early to start a 2019 Mock Draft.
With the Sacremento pick (and other picks owned by the C's) I want to pay attention to the top 50 prospects during the college hoops season. The hoops research done in the Cellar tops anything in the media, so hopefully, it would be more robust/better.

Apparently Yabu was pushing up near three bills recently...yeesh. My confidence level in him turning into anything is zero at this point.

This is what those of us who wanted to see the Celtics take more of a high risk/high reward strategy in the draft need to keep in mind. One extreme of that is drafting Giannia Antetokounmpo instead of Kelly Olynyk; the other extreme is taking Yabu.

Wasn’t part of the issue that we needed to take 2 guys who were willing to be stashed in order to have max space available for Horford? Too bad Danny couldn’t have dealt the Yabu/Zizic picks for future 1sts.

Two problems with that.

1. We had to use that pick on a player willing to be stashed
2. A player without quickness, length, or elite athleticism essentially carries the upside of a Kelly Olynyk which was my problem with the pick (ignoring #1) in that is WASN'T used on a high upside guy...….but one who maybe could fill the Big Baby role (in oh so many ways).

Correct, they couldn't have the cap holds on their books for cap purposes so they needed to either roll the picks or draft guys that wouldn't even threaten to come over. With perfect hindsight they would have been better off spiking Amir Johnson's non-guaranteed $12M or renouncing Tyler Zeller and drafting best players available but at the time they wanted the contracts as salary filler in a potential trade for a star (a reasonable position at the time). The draft was viewed as pretty weak and we were entering the Summer of Evan Turner so teams weren't overvaluing first rounders and everybody was going to have cap space forever so the value of expiring contracts plummeted. Alas, no deals were to be had. That's why the C's picked two Euro stashes, traded 31 and 35 for the future Clippers pick that may end up a 2022 second and picked Abdel Nader late (because he agreed to not sign and play in Maine for the year with the understanding he'd get a contract the following year when the roster crunch was alleviated).

I never knew that the LAC pick was via MEM in the Deyonta Davis trade. Not a bad deal by Ainge. Trade the 31st (Davis) and 35th (Zagorac) for the LAC protected pick. Worst case, it becomes a random 2nd round pick. But the upside, and especially at the time of the trade, was that it would be a pick in the late teens or early 20's.

Yeah Ainge makes some shrewd draft day deals every now and then. ;)

The beauty of this for me is I had Davis as a complete fraud entering that draft.

Well, Ainge's other stash pick, Zizic, has put up 25-10 and 16-14 in his first two Summer league games.

He's one of the big beneficiaries of LeBron's departure. Cleveland has every incentive now to see what they have in him.
